because not all Special Needs are also Educational, IYSWIM?

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 10/12/2008 22:34

So why do people post SEN in sn?
I am confuzed

OP posts:
moondog · 10/12/2008 22:35

There are too many topics on MN anyway.I think it's just getting silly now.

TotalChaos · 10/12/2008 22:41

I imagine people post SEN in SN because SN is busier and if you are used to posting in SN anyway you would tend to stay here iyswim. I think it would reduce confusion to combine the topics.

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 10/12/2008 22:48

so where do you post severe sn issues?

OP posts:
misdee · 10/12/2008 22:50

dd1 has SEN but mild, its not a SN issue iyswim. she was on an IEP for a few years and is behind her peers, and needs extra support. but not massively so. i dont think i've posted inm the SEN section for a while, but its handy its there.

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 10/12/2008 22:51

what confuses me is that if you post in sn about your severly disabled child you are accused of being competive, so where do you post, do you go to a different forum?

OP posts:
misdee · 10/12/2008 22:54

competative on sn topics?

surely sn are sn whether mild or severre?

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 10/12/2008 22:55

I was accused of it, so have not posted about dd since(and won't), just wondered where people Like me(smelly) are supposed to post

OP posts:
bullet123 · 10/12/2008 22:55

You are certaintly not competitive 2shoes. Hopefully you stay here and post.

misdee · 10/12/2008 22:56

what?!!!

bullet123 · 10/12/2008 22:57

And honestly? Don't worry about what others may or may not say about you or your dd. Your child, your concerns, your experiences, your right to post.

cory · 10/12/2008 23:03

Where did this happen? That sounds awful, 2Shoes. But hopefully that was a one off?

The way I've understood it, the SN forum is for both parents of children with severe SN and those with less severe SN.

The SEN forum is also for either kind but specially related to educational issues. Like we've got one Parenting forum and one Education forum, though you could argue that the two belong together.

alfiemama · 10/12/2008 23:07

Oh 2shoes, thats awful, tell em to bugger off, we need people like you to give advice to people like me

ps not got round to the facebook yet but I will do over the festive period.

theramones · 10/12/2008 23:15

My son has severe SN, but I do not post on the SN board anymore as it (SEEMS TO ME) not to be very inclusive.

I think it's really sad if people don't post on SN thread. It is a terrific source of info. and support (and i speak as someone who has worked in this filed for 25 years.I'm so impressed with what people know and share.I think the Internet is and will continue to transform the lvies of people with SN and their families. Was talking to someone the other day who had a child diagnosed with a perticular SN about 13 years ago. Internet just in its infancy but she bought a computer and taught herself about the net.It cost her thousands.)

2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 10/12/2008 23:26

theramones I am starting to feel that way. I have already joined special kids, as obviously sometimes a fresh place is good. but this week the way I have been spoken to on here, tbh has put me of posting, yet I find it nigh on imposible not to answer a cp thread.

OP posts:
2AdventSevenfoldShoes · 10/12/2008 23:28

moondog I agrree with that, but I think this board is becooming a rather less freindly place.

moondog · 10/12/2008 23:29

I don't know what you are referring too but don't cut off your nose to spite your face.Focus on the brilliant people there-of which there are many.

bullet123 · 10/12/2008 23:33

I can understand you being upset with that one thread, but in what other ways do you feel this board is less friendly?

lou031205 · 10/12/2008 23:36

2shoes, I always look out for your posts, and I think that the other thread just got way to heated in general. Keep posting PLEASE. I am so new to the SN world that I need familiar faces.

DS has CP, I have in the past always answered question about benefits and (pre split) education on the SN boards.
But, the one (and only) time I asked a question, a couple of the posters were so dismissive that my childs SN was CP and not Autism that they said that I shouldn't of posted.
I was so upset that I have never asked a question again.

TotalChaos · 10/12/2008 23:45

theramones - I'm very sorry your question didn't get a helpful response and you ending up feeling unwelcome.

I think there is an imbalance on this board - in that it's ended up mainly populated by parents with kids on the spectrum and/or with language problems. there are more people over the last year or so whose kids have different problems. but I can see why 2shoes might feel a bit shortchanged. Dunno though what can be done to help things (I do feel that threads like the contentious one this week are few and far between and not representative).
