i'm back.... as things are now i am 'happy' to see what the school think..... he still has friends- gets invited to parties....has good self esteem on the whole- BUT if he starts to feel different- which happed with L at age 6 (yr 2 ...which A will be in septemnber)...then i will 'start the ball rolling '....again.

Blossomhill · 05/02/2005 23:04

He may be like dd and not actually have a label that fits!

MrsFROSTgetful · 05/02/2005 23:06

At last we meet!!!!

yep....and i am happier with the school they are at....so feel confident that 'if' is a 'need' then it will be recognised.

Blossomhill · 05/02/2005 23:07

That's really good news.

We are off to Bibic on the 30th March Mrs F! Have you heard of them???

MrsFROSTgetful · 05/02/2005 23:09

quite common with AS that it 'shows prominently' around age 6....peaks at 9 then evens out till secondary school....so as i see it if i'm right in the next year we will have ....

'A' 'coming out' so to speak
'L' peaking at age 9
and 'T' starting secondary school

who ever said having 3yrs between the boys was a good ide...they be 6,9 & 12 this year!!!!

MrsFROSTgetful · 05/02/2005 23:10

wow!!! i guess that's not on the NHS????

Blossomhill · 05/02/2005 23:13

Well it is a charity so is subsidised.
We are going for 3 days and dd will be assessed by 7 professionals. They use a holistic approach to helping our kids and I will come home with a home programme.

Did you see my link to the asd site. I know you would love it on there!

Blossomhill · 05/02/2005 23:22

Mrs F - you have disappeared on me again. What are you like???

MrsFROSTgetful · 05/02/2005 23:26

here i am...just been sending you that Asperger's book.

MrsFROSTgetful · 05/02/2005 23:29

if 'A' is found to have an ASD then i seriously would love to find somewhere like that place where we could ALL go and be 'observered' and helped!!!!

i went to a SN meeting last week and out of 15 families....7 of us had autistic children....and 4 of that 7 had at least 2 autistic children.

somehow the '1 in 250' figure i keep reading doesn't seem true!!!

Blossomhill · 05/02/2005 23:32

Bibic website The first initial telephone interview is free. Mine was about 1 and a half hours. I have just never spoken to people who understand as much as these people do. I am no longer scared of dd's dx i just want to help as much as I can!

Blossomhill · 05/02/2005 23:33

It is so scary that autism is on the up. I know so many severly autistic children it is untrue.

MrsFROSTgetful · 06/02/2005 00:00

i am fortunate that my personal experience is not of classic autism.....and i suppose my boys are 'at the lighter end of the spectrum'....however there are days when all chaos lets loose with the 3 of them and i am physically using myself to be a barrier to protect each of them from each other---and i am about to have physio for my shoulder- which keeps coming out of it's socket....only really painful at night.....which i hate to say i think is due to 11 years of holding/restraining....and now being pulled around ...by my sons.

Blossomhill · 06/02/2005 00:01

Mrs F My dd is almost on the edges of asd but it still really affects all of us as a family. So to have 3 children even at the mild end must be hard work. However you are always so positive and that really helps

MrsFROSTgetful · 06/02/2005 00:09

Have received the book Mrs F. Thank you it was really interesting and useful x

Jimjams · 06/02/2005 14:08

well that didn't work- he bit the tablet in half then sppat it out. I grouond it up in cake and he spotted it. But then I realised that last time we tried the liquid melatonin he wouldn't drink orange juice, and now he is, so pput some in there- 20 minutes later he was snoozing like a baby (9.30 by now- we'd had an hour and a hlaf of screaming). SO THANK YOU DAVROS!!!!

JJ....HOOOOOORAY!!!! I was actually at a loss for words (yeah! amazing i know) when you described how sensitive your little man is to the taste of the melatonin.

i am soooooo lucky to not have had this problem.

so to read the sucess you have had with the orange juice is just fantastic....as i have said to me it truly is a miracle that within 20 mins the child who cannot normally drift of to sleep manages to sleep so well.

xxxx
