ds's gf. she made getting dd's hair cut easier

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 07/06/2008 13:57

ds1's report. He often refuses to do the easy work and instead insists on working with the more able children (must be a pita for his teachers )

LIZS · 07/06/2008 13:59

Being told by ds' Maths/English teacher that she was really pleased with his exam papers this week.

Seeing how happy my little girl is in the playpark in the new residence we've just moved to. Even if she can't play with the other kids! Meeting someone locally whose daughter has PDD so I know that I'm not the only one whose kid is a bit "different" and who's trying to find my way through the minefield of SN education in the French public system. Admitting how CRAP I was feeling and discovering that lots of other people have been in the same boat with their kids for all sorts of different reasons! Feeling like we're getting somewhere, even if it's going to take a LONG time. Oh, and having my internet access back after 2 weeks because I moved house.

drowninginlaundry · 07/06/2008 14:09

being on my own with my boys all weekend, we are eating junk food, seeing friends and I am in charge of the remote control

DH is doing a sponsored bike ride for the NAS, 270 miles from London to Rheims. Ouch!

Finding a local support group for autism/aspergers, and discovering the problems I have had are all shared and I an not the mad loony woman that the local child development centre has made me out to be. All the other parents of children on the spectrum have had the same problems, and we can all rant together.
My ds got into an autism specific school in my local area, important since now ds can not stand to travel by car or bus, so this is the best news I have had, feel like I have won the lottery. Just 3 months ago, lea were trying to put my ds in a nursery with no support , now apparently the panel agrees that he needs to go to this school. Made me do all that arguing, why couldn't they just agree with me in the first place. GAH!
But I WON!

DS is finally learning his colours AND putting two/three words together!!! HURRAY

(can I also mention what is not brightening may week? he is not yet letting me know he needs the toilet and his sleep is a disaster, in fact I am going to change my name to tinysleepysocks, I am sooo tired, hence sitting on the computer on a saturday afternoon, cannot be bothered to do anything else...)

DS has come home from residential school for his half term (I know, weird dates). And his so calm and happy but, best of all, he has eaten a cheese sandwich and chicken nuggets and chips!!! This may not sound much to most whose kids eat these all the time, but this is the FIRST time he has eaten either of these things at home (he is nearly 13). It is one of the great effects of the wonderful school he is attending. I feel like we are more of a family than when he was at home fulltime, he and DD ate the same thing together for the first time and we have all spent a relaxed and happy day together. Let's see how I feel this time next week!

getbackinyouryurtjimjams · 07/06/2008 20:39

Oh that's good Davros.

I am a huge fan of schools putting the effort in to sort out eating problems (ds1's teacher did with him, and it has made such a difference to our life!). It's easier for the schools to do it as well imo.

ouryve · 07/06/2008 21:55

DS2 picked up a pen and scribbled for the first time at his OT evaluation, this week. (Though I'm still irked by the feeling I got that the therapist was implying that it's amazing what he can do if you encourage him right). DS1 blew bubbles all by himself, instead of raspberries on Thursday!

Seuss · 08/06/2008 00:55

Davros - DH and I drew some wierd looks when got a bit enthusiastic about ds1 eating a chicken nugget in McDonalds! (Sorry Jamie Oliver!)

My bright spot was ds2's birthday today and all his friends came and were lovely and either they didn't notice or just didn't care that ds1 had special needs. One little girl even went inside to watch starwars with him. Apparently dh said they were sat on the sofa and she was telling him about the bad guys and stuff. Bless. (DH asked why I couldn't do that for him .

Davros...WOW! I was about to post that DS2 has agreed to 'scrape his finger on a banana....AND lick it off his finger'....which would be a true miracle as he eats NO FRUIT AT ALL.....

so your chicken nugget tale really made me smile as i know how you feel!!!!!xxxxxxxx

regarding the banana...THEY HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT HEALTHY FOOD AT SCHOOL...AND I HAVE BEEN TALKING ABOUT BANANAS ALL WEEK (!!!) and i showed him yesterday how if you put your finger carefully into the tip of a peeled banana, it will ALWAYS split into 3 equal portions....unless it falls apart!!!!

He is mathethatical so is impressed by this...he wants to try himself!!! And thats where the idea came for him to try sucking on his finger afterwards...

So...THAT is waht i am excited about tonight!!!!

misscutandstick · 08/06/2008 07:43

mine sounds a bit wierd but, DS5's SALT almost-in-a-roundabout-way, but 'totally off-record' and in no way a diagnosis agreed that PDD/ASD in some way might be a possible cause of DS's regression, total lack of communication, insensitivity to pain, toewalking, frequent meltdowns and general odd behaviour... something ive been trying to get someone to acknowledge for 4mths (i know its very early days - im very impatient!)

Its just that so far DS's paed is insistant that nothing is wrong and its just a lack of speech!?!

cory · 08/06/2008 12:19

Something clicked in dd's knee and she is now able to bend it and even, tentatively, to put weight on it. All right, so this was meant to have happened within a couple of days of her knee op in February- but better late than never

TotalChaos · 08/06/2008 19:21

DS put "pretend" water into his sand toy, and put "pretend" petrol into a jeep at Chester Zoo !

sphil · 08/06/2008 19:33

DS2 said his name when I asked 'what's your name?' with no hesitation and no prompting! And he ALMOST said 'hello mummy' - there was a bit of a gap between the two words and i prompted the 'mummy' with a 'm' - but even so!

Davros - I'm so pleased to hear about DS. I'd been wondering about how he was getting on at school. Sounds as if it's a wonderful place.

Dynamicnanny · 08/06/2008 19:38

Wow sounds like the children are all having a good week - and some of them are trying new foods

DS1 walked for the first time since his plaster casts were taken off over 2 weeks ago!! He had a tendon transfer done on his feet and was in plaster for 6 weeks, and was very nervous about walking. I'm soo proud of him!! The Physio is supposed to bring a walking frame for him tomorrow - I'm debating telling her to leave it!! Hoorah!!

DD managed to take some yoghurt out of a bowl with her fingers and put it in her mouth! Normally she just grabs the bowl, ignores the yoghurt and bites the bowl. Next step--learning that a spoon isn't just for flinging on the floor

Mamazon · 09/06/2008 11:16

Ds learning to ride his bike unaided.

SixSpotBurnet · 09/06/2008 11:27

Yesterday DS3 allowed me to put his new colourful summer Doodles on his feet - this is a major breakthrough - considering that six months ago he wouldn't wear anything on his feet, then we got him to wear Wellies, then nursery got him to wear plain black plimsoll Doodles - and now this! Hooray!
