Well that is how I would interpret it - although I'd want something in writing. 6pm is still early for a lead clinician.

well he has just been and got my mountain of evidence! He says he is still shocked that a label is needed but will read through the evidence tonight and ring me tomorrow if he needs to discuss anything else regarding a formal diagnosis!
So can i say DS has autism now or can they still do a u turn and revert back to DS is normal?????

fingers crossed for a DX tomorrow morning!

magso · 23/04/2008 18:53

I would wait for something in writing. It sounds like it is a working dx and franky there is a difference between autistic traits and autism although I'm not sure what!

bonkerz · 23/04/2008 20:02

thanks guys. You never know it could all go tits up again tomorrow although i would be fuming if it did! To see the DX so close is strange and i have a feeling of relief that we may finally get the support DS needs,

So doc bloke just rang and said he had read through the evidence and possible PDD-NOS diagnosis but wants to run it past a colleague and get back to me. PPD-NOS is that good?

I feel really odd that im almost pleased DS will have a dx of autism cos it means he will finally get proper help and i can access some support for home. Am i Weird?

It is difficult isn't it! You need the difficulties recognised - but you don't want your child to have a life long additional need! You have to fight tooth and nail to get the dx to get the proper understanding and support so all the focus goes on that battle but somewhere along the line your feelings get left behind.
PDD -NOS is pervasive developmental disorder not otherwise specified it means asd but doesnt quite fit the dx for typical asd sub-types eg AS or HFA. PDD is the other (american) term for asd.
I know you are exspecting and need this Dx but I'm sure once it is in black and white you will be very down for a while!

i dont doubt its going to hurt when it is all finalised but right now its a weird feeling cos its like im wishing this problem on my DS. WOuld love to think he is normal BUt in my heart and head i know he isnt. I have been fighting for this for so long im almost excited that all the fighting might actually pay off finally and all the doors which have been slammed shut on us so far will finally open.

Well you have had a lot of professionals ignore you or say you are wrong or try and blame other things - you are entitled to feel a sense of relief that at long long last someone is aggreeing!! A whoop of triumph is not out of order either!!! (slap on back from Magso) Welldone!!

magso · 24/04/2008 10:55

What I meant was you have recognised ds difficulty for years- and now at last it is a relief that he may get the understanding he needs! Welldone!

Hey Bonkerz, all sounds good...though I would ask them exactly which boxes he doesn't tick for the ASD dx as some LEAs won't accept PDD as ASD...I know mine won't, and it's supposed to only be used when they don't fit all the criteria, which, looking at what you've written about your ds in the past, seems strange.

I suppose that the important thing is whether or not your LEA will accept PDD as ASD and the school unit too. I would find that out before you accept the PDD dx.

At least things are progressing!

Where are you with the Statement right now?

bonkerz · 24/04/2008 11:56

statement right now is at 32.5 but are due back at panel on monday to get them to give enhanced funding package and put that all people involved with DS have positive handling training and also to change school to a specialist school which has small class sizes and specially trained TAs, if we dont get it at panel then the date is already booked for the appeal in september!
