hitc,

It's really odd isn't it

We saw the same thing and each of us took from it a different message.

heartinthecountry · 13/03/2008 11:16

PMSL Fio!

heartinthecountry · 13/03/2008 11:18

There I will agree with you FioFio,

You are obviously being invited to talk through your desire to walk away from your kids.....

I can see that you might not be entirely happy, LOL

I was being sarcy btw....

coppertop · 13/03/2008 11:21

She seemed very detached from it all. I didn't understand the bit about Scope telling her there was no help out there at all. I only know about respite care and direct payments from reading the experience of MNers on the SN board but it does exist, doesn't it? I know it's not easy to get but it's there, surely?

coppertop · 13/03/2008 11:22

X-posted with Fio. That makes more sense now. Thanks.

she said "I need a babysitter so I can go shopping!" wtf! Immie was a baby! Apart from the constant screaming, Jh doesn't mention that Immie's needs at that point in time were any different to that of a normal baby, so why should she need a babysitter provided by social services? as opposed to a friend/neighbour/family member?

OP posts:
minorityrules · 13/03/2008 11:32

if you read the book you will see what extra needs Immie had at that age (epilepsy, severe feeding problems to name just 2)

mine did to fio. shall we start a quiche.

wannaBe · 13/03/2008 11:38

fair enough fio, and obviously if she was having seizures then not everyone is able, or even prepared, to deal with that. And I guess her baby murderer in waiting husband wasn't exactly first on her babysitting list given his intentions .

When I first met Immie she was a mass of tubes and pumps and machines with a child in there somewhere.

But you could see that the paed who said she was unitelligent needed probably wiped his speaking organ with Andrex.

Regardless of what we think of JH Immie is a lovely and loved child.

wannaBe · 13/03/2008 11:41

"Regardless of what we think of JH Immie is a lovely and loved child." think that "regardless of what we think of jh" should be changed to "in spite of jh".

No doubt that Immie is loved. but that has nothing to do with JH, apart from the fact that had she not abandoned her she wouldn't be a loved child

Please excuse me for posting on SN.

Shopping?

Immie is innocent, Julia is responsible for her decisions and actions.

Is she coming back on again? Is the phone-in in this programme?

In the very limited time that there was, I am glad that 'Phil and Fern', (after the 'polite vagueness' of radio4 and Richard&Judy), gave her a run for her money and asked the questions.

I was hoping to see a different side of her but her reactions and responses have only confirmed what I already thought. She seems out of touch with reality. Maybe now, if she gets some real feedback, rather than being surrounded by sycophants, she will finally realise what all this means.

I do think the controversy around this will serve to increase her book sales, though.

Villette · 13/03/2008 11:45

I felt she was in denial. She kept on about how she couldn't get services because she was one of life's copers - when it is quite clear that she wasn't coping. Even if she couldn't get help from social services, I would have thought that she could have organised something herself during the short period she had her daughter, as a previous post said.

I see her as a high achieving woman who cannot come to terms with the fact that she couldn't cope with her daughter and needs to justify her actions. I honestly believe that she is suffering a form of depression and I feel very uneasy about this whole publicity bandwagon.

coppertop · 13/03/2008 11:46

Yes I noticed PS was bringing up the kinds of things that had been discussed on here. I suspect they got a lot of calls and e-mails over the past day or so.

Unless PS is a secret MN lurker.....

sphil · 13/03/2008 11:48

Is she going to get any real feedback though? I'm waiting for some kind of follow up to the interview and all I'm getting is tummy tucks and Christine Hamilton. I know it's the nature of shows like this to flit from one thing to another, but I really find it chilling that they can give 10 minutes to this and then it's all 'yap yap yap' (as Fern has just said!)

Yes, that whole 'so I can go shopping' thing did her no favours but perhaps showed true colours?

And also, by her own admission, she did have a break. In the Woman's Hour interview she said she had 'an amazing spanish lady' for a neighbour who insisted on taking Immie off them and giving them a break. I'm sure she even said 'frequently'.
