DLA wait times Dec '22

I couldn't see an updated thread for DLA wait times so I thought I'd make a new one for anyone else currently waiting to hear back.

I've recently applied for DLA for my DS for the first time with a scan date of 21st Dec. I've been told it'll be about 12-15 weeks before I hear anything back. Anyone else want to join in the wait?

Hello I have recently sent of my application for DLA my daughter she's 4 and has a very rare auto immune disease only kid in the UK with it which effects her airway. She carries an epi pen incase her airway closes, I notice alot of your children have autism but do you think we would qualify? She does need 24hr supervision and I can't work due to frequent hospital stays abd operations x thanks in advance x

Boyandgirlmum23 · 19/01/2023 22:49

It goes by their needs and care not a diagnosis I think. My son's had no diagnosis yet I've only just applied though. But seen loads without a diagnosis being accepted x

Mommax3 · 20/01/2023 06:58

Yes that would qualify due to the amount of care/risk involved, I would at least imagine the middle rate but if you don’t get the answer you think you should be entitled too I would appeal.

Asdmumof3 · 20/01/2023 07:45

if it’s care through the day and night you’ll get awarded high rate x

Sarahc91 · 20/01/2023 08:19

Thankyou for your replys , yes she does need care /supervision through the night I'll be happy with middle rate so I can apply for carers allowance higher rate would be amazing though x

Asdmumof3 · 20/01/2023 10:24

My daughter used to be high rate but this time they’ve only awarded middle rate on the grounds that she’s had a change In sleep meds (now requires phenergan) and there has been improvements to sleep 😤 I’m going back for appeal because although there have been improvements the phenergan doesn’t always work and then I’m up from 2am caring for her coz she can’t be left unsupervised and when it’s holidays etc her whole routine is out and I’m lucky if I get 2 good nights a week! They only awarded middle rate the first time round at first either and I appealed it for high and got it so don’t just settle for middle rate if you know the care runs through the nights too. I think they award a lower rate hoping people will accept and won’t argue it! Good luck x

Hi. Scan date 24th October 13weeks on Monday. Rang Monday just gone was told claims will be looked at 13weeks and should have an answer by week 14 .

Parmaviolet1719 · 23/01/2023 10:01

My DD already gets middle rate for care element, she turned 3 in august so sent in the form requesting mobility element too. Scan date was 5th September and haven’t heard anything! I rang in early Dec and was told it’s taking up to 20 weeks. Today is exactly 20 weeks and still heard nothing so I’m calling for an update but currently on hold. It’s absolute madness that it can take so long. As it hasn’t been approved, I don’t know what to do about any changes in her mobility in the meantime. I don’t want to be calling and spending ages on hold unnecessarily, when I don’t even know if they’ll decide to award it. It’s not even clear to me what constitutes a change in mobility. Finding this very stressful.

Jengnr · 30/01/2023 14:46

I posted mine 15th October. Had a letter saying it was received 24th. No award letters yet but my account is showing two payments due to land tomorrow.

Does anyone know when the award letters are likely to arrive?

Mommax3 · 30/01/2023 18:03

I’ve seen so many state their payments arrived before their letters! Congrats to you, it’s a long old wait. I received a letter over the weekend stating they are dealing with my claim and there is no need to contact them. It’s so frustrating waiting!

Parmaviolet1719 · 30/01/2023 20:30

Update: waited 20 weeks after being told that was the current timeframe. Called and was told the timeframe is now 22 weeks. Still waiting. Very annoying as we want it awarded so we can apply for a blue badge, it’s so frustrating having to wait so long

Kathy1989 · 31/01/2023 23:02

Hi anyone heard back scan date for me was the 2nd of November seems like o have been waiting forever now

Maz331 · 01/02/2023 16:29

Mine was scanned in ok 9th of Nov. I rang last week only to be told that November will be looked at in Feb. I havnt got a lot of evidence so I'm super worried.

Boyandgirlmum23 · 01/02/2023 16:44

I rang up yesterday and she said 12 weeks they tell everyone diff my scan date was only 19th dec so a long way yet

Mommax3 · 01/02/2023 20:00

Mines 11 weeks tomorrow, I received a text yesterday and a letter last week saying this :

”We are still looking at your DLA1 Child claim. When a decision is made we will confirm it in writing. There is no need to contact us about it.”

Mommax3 · 09/02/2023 19:20

I called them today, was on hold for an hour. Ours isn’t yet with a decision maker, she told me 15 weeks so it’ll be at least another 5 until we get an outcome. It is very frustrating having to wait for an answer or any support!

vkx · 10/02/2023 15:23

What benefits can be received for a child that has received middle rate DLA?

Maz331 · 15/02/2023 13:41

Hi so I spoke to them this morning and my son's is with a case worker as of yday so that's week 14 now. Fingers crossed. Will update

Supermom92 · 22/02/2023 23:47

Hey I called up 17th November sent the forms late December they received them 23rd .. I got a letter 11th Jan to say sorry its taking longer than usuall , I did call up on Monday 20/02 and they said still no decision and they are looking at 14 week mark with claims , I think it's 14 weeks tomorrow! But waiting anxiously.

Daisymum18 · 13/03/2023 11:24

Hi there
I'm currently on week 6 today as your comment dates back to January can I ask have you had a decision as yet I've been told 15 weeks and 12weeks last week when I called so in theory that's another 6 weeks to go when I called last week it was in the que to be looked at by the DM but obviously no clue how long it had been in the que up to last Monday it's a nerve wracking time

Asdmumof3 · 13/03/2023 16:11

Mine was 14 weeks x

Supermom92 · 14/03/2023 12:31

Hi there is another thread stating part 9 or 10 , which is more active . I'm not sure if your comment is to me or not but I haven't heard nothing only had 2 messages stating they are still looking at my claim

LittleCoffeePot · 19/03/2023 12:00

Bumping to see if anyone else has heard back yet? I'm at 12 weeks and have only had a letter and text to say it's still being processed.

Just an update to say we have been awarded MRC for 3 years, no mobility but will reapply for mobility just before Ds's 5th birthday. Total wait time of around 14 weeks.

Hope anyone else waiting gets their decision soon!

Hi all, messaging as I sit 45 minutes into waiting on hold to speak to bloody DWP!

I've been claiming, awarded at mid-rate for 3 years for my child. Got the 'you must claim again' paperwork at Christmas, sent everything off first week of January. Needs have increased, had even more evidence this time. Got an acknowledgment of the paperwork being received a few weeks back.

Now I've had a letter today saying thank you for my communication in January asking me to look at the claim again, it'll be another 12 weeks. I didn't ask them to look at my claim again! That was my paperwork submission and I've not had a bloody decision!

In the interim my (pitiful!) Carers Allowance is being stopped too because the existing DLA claim expires this week!

I can't wait another 12 weeks - we rely on that money for so many things!

As I said I'm in the phone to them now but is there another way of reaching them? I e actually been trying to ring them for weeks anyway to find out what's going on and I've never got through (usually have to give up after an hour or so because y'know im a career with a child that needs a huge amount of attention night and day!!)

It's disgraceful!
