Universal credit

So my son has just had his dla granted today.
As I'm on universal credit I've been advised to do my change of circumstances with them to get the disabled/child element of them has anyone been successful in having that backdated?
Also I currently have to pay bedroom tax as they say my sons can share a room although they can't due to my youngest needs can I get that overturned? And would that be universal credit I take that up with?
Many thanks

@Polly421 I was waiting from august till November haha

Polly421 · 07/12/2021 19:42

@Alk19 I’m predicting it will take a while for them to sort even though advisor said 28days haha

I’m due payment next Friday so hoping to have the increase this month.

Alk19 · 07/12/2021 19:44

@Polly421 the elements are added on pretty quick it's the back payment I waited months for x

Polly421 · 29/12/2021 11:47

I received a decision today saying they will backdate change under special circumstances. How long did it take any of you to receive your backdated payment?

Tammy0808 · 29/12/2021 12:49

@Polly421 I still haven't received mine and they agreed to 'special circumstances' on 6th December.

Tammy0808 · 29/12/2021 12:50

@Polly421 on 18th they left a message saying my calculations have been sent for review. Not sure how long that takes

Polly421 · 29/12/2021 13:12

@Tammy0808 I was surprised to get a notification today as it was sent to decision marker on 3rd of December and thought with it being Xmas/new year I wouldn’t hear back until mid January or so. Hopefully they contact you soon as it’s sounds like everything has been done but just waiting for final step of issuing payment.

Alk19 · 29/12/2021 13:47

@Polly421 have they told you your backdated amount? They told me and the same day in went in as a faster payment x

Polly421 · 29/12/2021 14:30

@Alk19 @Tammy0808 I just received another notification with the backdated amount and that I should receive payment in my bank Friday and all my previous statement have been updated.

Hi guys just after abit of advise please my daughter who is 17 now got awarded hrc and hrm last June I contacted uc to see if she could be added to my account for the disabled element was told no, I can't work as I have other disabled child and take care of my daughter full time so struggled extremely I was told recently that she should have been in receipt of it so contacted uc today and they said that yes she could have been added on as a disabled child I'm so upset I doubt they will bk pay as they will probably push it on to me to have known but I did contact them any advice please would be great x

Alk19 · 07/01/2022 23:47

@Luckymummy83 do you have any messages or anything to back up you telling them when you was notified of her award? If you do then yes you have every right for that back pay x

Luckymummy83 · 07/01/2022 23:56

Unfortunately not bit I did contact them and was told no I'm devastated as there's nothing I can do but why would I not claim an element that was to help it'd just crazy, what do you think there reply will be lovely as put on journal today, thank you for getting bk to me really appreciate it x

Polly421 · 08/01/2022 00:07

@Luckymummy83 they should still add your daughter from now so you receive the extra payment going forward and you could ask it for it to be backdated and sent to a decision marker and see what they say. I’ve had a look at letter I received recently to see if it mentions about contacting universal credits, tax credits etc it’s doesn’t mention on the letter but there is a note booklet given with letter for people getting DLA and it says on one part You may be able to get extra money. You must claim the extra money, as you will not receive this automatically. Then goes on to say Now your getting DLA you may be able to get extra money with other benefits, for example Carers allowance, Pension Credit, Child tax Credits, Working tax credit or housing benefit but doesn’t mention universal credit as an example. So you could argue you had no clue and there paper workout made no mention of extra oh universal credits.

Luckymummy83 · 08/01/2022 00:11

I wasn't sure hun at time that's why I contacted them so just left it as they said no x

Polly421 · 08/01/2022 00:19

@Luckymummy83 did they say they would add the element going forward? As surely if you notify them now you should be able to extra going forward. They may decline the backdating as they were notified in time but I would fight for them to add it going forward if your still in receipt of DLA for your daughter

Luckymummy83 · 08/01/2022 00:25

They haven't said they will award it yet or anything I just asked for help from them today about the matter then I put it on my journal, she is awarded hrc and hrm till October 2023,pip x

Polly421 · 08/01/2022 00:29

@Luckymummy83 on your universal credits do a change of circumstances under the people that live with you section and input the date your daughter was awarded DLA and it should get verified she is on DLA for your future payments. It will say it’s a late reporting so may not get it backdated but at least get it going forward.

Polly421 · 08/01/2022 00:30

If it PIP update when her PIP began instead of DLA.

Luckymummy83 · 08/01/2022 00:34

Definitely lovely that's the main thing any extra help is a positive just wish I didn't go off what I was,I hope so hun anythings better going forwards that the struggles we have had it's been awful it really has and no family ext just me and the kiddies x

Luckymummy83 · 08/01/2022 00:35

Will they verify my daughters details through pip hun as they haven't asked me to upload any documents yet?x

Polly421 · 08/01/2022 00:39

Do you already have you daughter listed down on your universal claim and get the standard child element payment for her each month already?

Luckymummy83 · 09/01/2022 01:27

She's always been on my claim just not sure if I ever got any money for her because it says I get payment for 3 out of my 4 children,my youngest was born 6,3,17 or is it my youngest I don't know

Polly421 · 09/01/2022 12:09

@Luckymummy83 that’s fine she should still get the element either way if she down on your claim as child living with you. I would do put her PIP details in under a change of circumstances that she now gets PIP then take it from there.

Polly421 · 09/01/2022 12:11

When I updated my claim for my daughters change we got the extra element on our next payment but took a while longer to be backdated. It’s likely they will refuse the back dated amount but you can ask for it to a decision marker and explain your reason why you’ve reported it late and see what they say. good luck.

Luckymummy83 · 09/01/2022 12:13

That's a relief then as if she wasn't on the claim do you think they would have rejected?I've put all details in will they just get info from pip do you think or will they ask me to upload documents I was going to do they but there wasn't anywhere for me to upload them x
