My 5 year old daughter

I’m posting as I don’t really have anyone to talk to about this and I could do with a handhold, maybe some reassurance I’m doing the right thing and some advice as to what else I could do.

My 5 year old has some mental health problems. Definitely anxiety and phobias which are getting worse, she also has a meltdown every couple of weeks.

I don’t seem to be able to prevent the meltdowns, they can be about the most innocuous of things, and result in massive screaming, shouting, stamping, hitting, sometimes self harm, throwing things, and contradictory information (I want a cuddle, don’t touch me).

The phobias started as sick and now is spiders as well, I’m scared its going to increase. It prevents her from joining in some activities and living her usual life.

She has recently become very worried about people dying as well. ‘

She gets anxious about things I haven’t yet identified and when she is anxious, her behaviour is bad.

I have school involved (she just started reception this September) who are very sympathetic, have given her access to the learning support room, have given her feelings cards and a rewards chart, and are trying to manage her phobias and acting out in a kind way.

She had a camhs appointment and they said there are things we can do and I’m to go back next week to discuss, there is no therapy she can have with camhs due to her age.

I don’t know what else to do.

Hi there OP. As requested, we've moved your thread over to SN Children and hopefully some wise MNers will be along with advice and support for you very soon.

Best of luck with it all.
