Dear mums.

Would ABA data be enough to prove that the profress is due to ABA?

My son is 4 has bern out of nursary since 10 months and only home educated by myself using ABA...i am his ABA tutor + mum.

Special school will be detrimental to his progress i know but how could I prove that?

I know judge could argue of all sorts to avoid ABA due to cost...

For instance they argue that progress could be due to him.maturing and growing up...

Showing videos before and after ABA intervention is enough of evidence?

Unfortunately i did not record any vidros
I have heard of LA claiming CDs of videos being lost just to oppose ABA..

Can you share your experiences and give me advice plz

I still don't get why there is a court case.
Are you taking the LEA to court because you want a place in a mainstream school?
Or are they taking you to court for neglecting your child by not providing education?

From other threads the member has been offered a place at a special school, but doesn't want it. She is appealing/taking to court because she wants mainstream with a specialist ABA tutor to work 1 to 1 with her ds in a mainstream setting.

openupmyeagereyes · 27/09/2019 16:14

As I understand it a place has been offered in a special school. OP wants mainstream with ABA support (the same school her daughter attends).

@drspouse

Your question made me puzzled...

How on earth can LA take me to court?

If i decide to homeschool.my child no one can take me to court...

I want him to be in mainstream with a 1:1 ABA support.

By the way, someone told me that LA can issue a legal notice against me for a non.attendence....but when I enquired i was told this is not applicable as my son is waiting for a court hearing...

You have only just said this. Hence my question.

Tonnerre · 27/09/2019 23:58

@drspouse, I think OP means that she is bringing an appeal to the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal against the contents of an EHCP.

drspouse · 28/09/2019 05:27

Right, I get that now but it would have been helpful to say. We are actually doing the same. We have expert evidence.

Soumia · 28/09/2019 07:47

@drspouse
We are on the same wave then...
Please let me know how did u nanage to gdt in touch with IPSEA?

Since 6 months...since march...i could not book an qppointment...the webpage seems weired...

Plz shate your experience...

Even my daughter will go the same process as my son...but she is in mainstream full time...so her case will be may be harder to prove ABA worked as she is in mainstream ans the judge will argue that ABA is mot intensive enough...

@drspouse have u tried ABA? Or u just appealed for mainstream?

My DS does not have ASD but if he did I would not touch ABA with a barge pole.
The EHCP does not have the required provision. We are using a lawyer and at least one independent expert. He's in mainstream with a TA.
We did have an appointment with IPSEA, just keep checking till there are more appointments but they will be down to earth and recommend you get expert reports.

Soumia · 28/09/2019 11:38

Thanks for ur message.

What do u mean by expert?

EP?
SALT ?

OP posts:
ClownsandCowboys · 28/09/2019 12:30

A qualified professional who will support your argument. Do you have an EP or SALT who agree with you about ABA in mainstream?

drspouse · 28/09/2019 14:52

We're getting an OT and possibly an EP but that's relevant to my DS' needs.

Mum2prince · 25/10/2019 01:00

@drspouse I'm starting a ABA programme for my son and wanted to know why you 'wouldn't touch ABA with a barge pole?' My Ds in 2.10, no diagnosis, speech and language delay (both expressive and receptive) though he is starting to say words after us and request the odd item now. He does have some ASD traits (mainly social interaction difficulties) but in my personal opinion I think it's is his SALT problems that is having a knock on affect in that area. Just curious why you are so against ABA, I only properly did research in the last month when suggested by a private salt that ds would benefit from this whether he had a 'pure salt issue or if he had ASD. Everyone I have asked who was against aba never tried it Hmm and every one who has thought it was the best this they did for their dc.
