Court hearing soon: How Could I prove that ABA helped my son.

Dear mums.

Would ABA data be enough to prove that the profress is due to ABA?

My son is 4 has bern out of nursary since 10 months and only home educated by myself using ABA...i am his ABA tutor + mum.

Special school will be detrimental to his progress i know but how could I prove that?

I know judge could argue of all sorts to avoid ABA due to cost...

For instance they argue that progress could be due to him.maturing and growing up...

Showing videos before and after ABA intervention is enough of evidence?

Unfortunately i did not record any vidros
I have heard of LA claiming CDs of videos being lost just to oppose ABA..

Can you share your experiences and give me advice plz

Another thing I am worried about is can I be honest and tell the judge at the hearing

my future plans with my two autistic kids?
So may be he could understand my situation better and help.me further... or may be I am wrong?

Many.parents and professionals told me that judges work for the benefit if the UK...and its economy not for the benefit of my son.or yours!!

Is this right?

My daughter who is also autistic...started mainstream.last year non.verbal and she is now verbal...talking...and has extra ABA sessions at home to.improve her speech.

My other plan to switch to part time schooling for both my autistic son and daughter once their EHCP/ABA is approved by the judge.

What is worring me most is the school undermining the ABA once the judge impose it on them... but lets cross that bridge when we arrive there.

All the schools around bristol refuses ABA...I have to name the nearest school to my house...I have 4 kids...to make my school run easier as I am a single mum.

My autistic son missed entry to reception this srptember due to Appeal...etc
My other plan is to have both my autistic son with my other Neuro.typical son together in the same reception class so I could get feedback daily...etc.
This is if the mainstreamschool.is approved by the judge.

Please advise me or refer me to any links websites...etc

Thanks lovely mums Flowers

All the evidence on ABA is that improvement IS due to growing older. Sorry.

But I don't see why you are going to court to prove you can home educate?
Also are you planning that your NT Reception age child would feed back what the teachers had done with your child with ASD, daily? That sounds unlikely to happen with a TD four year old!

Soumia · 21/09/2019 09:33

Thanks drspouse...
But why did you argue that:
...All the evidence on ABA is that improvement IS due to growing older. Sorry....

Are you a mum who used ABA or you had experience with ABA?

This is what is worry me and even scaring me...if the judge argue that my son progress is not due to ABA...although I am sure that understsbd very well his case...but they might argue differentlh to undermine ABA and hence save LA money as ABA is hell too expensive..

Autistic kids needs constant help and training and patience and lots of supervision and modeling...etc to learn many skills..

Nothing happends spontaneously or naturally...

But again autism is a spectrum...i have 2 autistic kuds and I work much harder with my son as he needs more help than my daughter...

This may be true but my ds gets this through 1:1 support at school from a TA not an ABA therapist.

Also, it is possible for children to move from a special school into mainstream later on if it’s appropriate. It’s not exactly a life sentence.

drspouse · 21/09/2019 11:15

I'm a SEN parent who's read the research. The research says ABA doesn't work.
All children develop skills as they grow, whether or not they have SEN. For a start, living in a family that talks to them and seeing the world around teaches children things.

Soumia · 25/09/2019 15:01

But ABA is a well proven intervention thtough research and scientific publucations...how would you argue thag it does not wirk like that.

Can you share a source of information...a book...or a reference...something reliable plz

OP, you post the same questions over and over in new posts and get told the same things.

The proper research shows that ABA doesn't work, and many autistic adults who have been subject to it consider it cruel.

That was either old ABA methods or professionals who were not competent and didnt do it the right way...

I am not wuite sure how positive reinforcement could be abusive or detrimental?

I think a lot of opposition is because its about getting a child to comply, to be compliant. It also encourages the child to stop stimming (hand flapping, spinning, jumping, repetitive behaviour) which is considered harmful.

You also have 8 threads in this section on exactly the same thing, asking the same questions.

I still don't get why there's even a court case.

Soumia · 25/09/2019 21:29

What do you nean by that?

You mean they should not even give a chance to.appeal?

OP posts:
drspouse · 26/09/2019 11:53

You are home educating your child.
Why have the courts got involved?

iwashappyonce · 26/09/2019 12:14

How are special schools 'detrimental' to progress?!

Soumia · 26/09/2019 12:21

Not really formal home education as in EOTAS...but he was out of nursary since a year...they said they could not cope with him...so i left my career and started my ABA tutoring job with him while waitibg for the court

Special schools have kids with different needs and disabilities and complex issue ...
Each teacher must cope with 4-6 kids for the whole day...

How on earth would my son cope with other 5 kids who also have complex needs and who needs lots of care attention patience...etc

Would the teacher be able to provide my son with the love and affection i do provide for my son on a daily basis while teaching him...playibg with him...etc...i am talking about uncobditional mother love...

I left my carèeer ...i am an academic Dr....holding a PhD...

Can you tell.me how on earth any mothrr can cope with 5 healthy kids for the whole day???

So what about a mother with 5 SEN kids?
It is impossible to meet all the 5 or 6 or even 4 disabled kids in the same time..

Impossible.

ClownsandCowboys · 26/09/2019 12:41

It wouldn't just be a teacher, there would be TAs in there. In mainstream he will be one of 30, perhaps with 1:1, but he is likely to ge tless attention there.

Children with SEN tend to thrive in special school, that's why there is such demand for them. Especially children with complex needs. How do you expect your son to cope being non-verbal in mainstream school?

iwashappyonce · 26/09/2019 12:42

You're wrong Soumia. My child's class has ten children in it and five members of staff.

iwashappyonce · 26/09/2019 12:43

Also, what exactly is a 'healthy kid' please?

iwashappyonce · 26/09/2019 12:47

A mainstream class would have thirty children in and possibly two members of staff. So you tell me how that's better for a non verbal autistic child because I am baffled.

Alwaysgrey · 26/09/2019 12:49

I don’t agree with ABA. I think it’s dangerous. I have one child in a mainstream (they have asd and adhd) and another in a specialist school (they also have asd and adhd). The special school is amazing. 10 kids, 1 teacher and 4 TAs. My younger child has really come out of herself after being emotionally abused and isolated in mainstream. Are you going to court for the LA to provide an ABA tutor?

iwashappyonce · 26/09/2019 12:52

Despite your academic credentials @Soumia I am afraid you have a very naive understanding of the SEN provision available to autistic children.

The way you refer to non autistic children as 'healthy' is incredibly insulting. My son is autistic and very very healthy.

You don't seem to have any understanding of how special schools work, or how to get your child into one, or how what you are asking for will not be given to you. You are not going to win this fight @Soumia, because unfortunately what you are asking for probably isn't in the best interests of your child.

I strongly suggest you look at your local specialist schools and request one.

Alwaysgrey · 26/09/2019 13:05

Have you had a look at your local Sen schools? I know it can be a bit of a shock and it’s probably doubly hard if you’ve had your son with you and not at nursery for all of his life. Do review what is available.
