DS1 was sitting on my lap having a cuddle. I stuck my tongue out, then he did the same (big tickles etc). I did it again- he did it again, then again and so on!!! I touched my nose, then he touched his nose!!!!!!!!!

No prompts at all- he just imitated.

Trying not to get oo excited as he'll probably never do it again!

Awwww, thats excellent!!! Even if he never does it again he obviously has the 'capacity' to do it so you can be proud of that!!! Bet he'll be doing it over and over again soon tho - awww, how sweet!!!

Wow! Have you been putting something in the water? There seems to be so much progress being made in the Jimjams household lately. Fantastic news!

Jimjams · 12/09/2004 10:28

Nothing in the water- just lots (well as much as we can afford) of ABA! Just wish we'd started a full time program when he was 2

libb · 12/09/2004 10:35

Jimjams, I hope you don't mind as I don't post on your threads often but I, like Chandra, have read with interest about your progress.

I am so so pleased for you all! what is ABA exactly? I have a friend whose little boy is on the autistic scale and I thought I could mention it to her next time we meet. (please forgive my ignorance)

libb ABA is sometimes known as Lovaas. It's a highly effective teaching method for autistic children. The best way to do it really is to do an intensive home program (very expensive although with a battle-usually- LEA's will fund). We've never done that- missed the boat a bit- but we've started one day of ABA a week on Saturdays, and I try to sneak ABA exercises into school The first thing they teach is imitation. It's a big one......

ABA - Applied Behavioural Analysis... and what Jimjams said. She is right that the most effective is an intensive home program. Our DD has done 'leaps and bounds' in the last couple of months having done intensive ABA over the summer. Hoping to continue part-time during the school year.

Fantastic news Jimjams about your DS - I know how great it can make you feel to see such progress. Soooo happy for you and your family. This really is a new beginning
