SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Will you sign my petition to the PM to ask for manual handling training for parents?

(Please).

It has long been a bug bear of mine that whilst everyone (and his wife!) gets trained how to safely lift, shift and carry our disabled children, clearly the health of our (the parents!) backs matters not.. which is why almost everyone I know in the SN world (or those or have to lift and carry their children like we do DS!) has a bad back, at least to some degree.

I am asking the PM to make provision for us parents to have manual handling training as WE are the ones who have to carry our children more than anyone else.

Please sign.. and PLEASE pass the link on to others who may want to sign too. This is one the really important oversights going on in the world of SN parents.

Don't forget to validate it via the link on your email... only my sister is appearing on there so far for some reason!

Absolutely! I was going to organise Team Teach training for local parents but just don't have time or enthusiasm. I wish someone else would organise it though! Must bring it up at DS's school's next PSA mtg.

Davros · 10/07/2007 07:29

Oh, I have not appeared and I was not paying much attention about following the link to confirm signing..... will wait to see if it works.
I will also send the request on to other contacts.

Done. Major, major issue. Off to spread the word....

Davros · 10/07/2007 10:11

I am confused though as it says that the deadline to sign up was yesterday... yet it is still taking signatures as I have now appeared! Should I pass this on or is it too late?

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 10/07/2007 12:07

Doh! I thought it was a bit short notice! I will pass on the link to other friends etc then.
Has anyone done Team Teach training? It seems to be what many of the professionals are doing and is not just about physical handling, also diffusing situations etc. I would love to do it...... sometime!

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/07/2007 09:55

What is it Davros? Had not heard on it before

here www.team-teach.co.uk It is not just about physical handling as I said. It is about strategies to diffiuse situations, manage your own behaviour etc etc. I must bring it up with our PSA again....

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/07/2007 12:41

Will look into it Davros.

Bump.

Have just mailed some of my friends, and my Dad did the same (I can see them on there )

chonky · 11/07/2007 19:37

Oh Christie, all the more reason for us to get people signed up on this

ShinyHappyPeopleHoldingHands · 11/07/2007 19:37

Yes it's about educating parents and carers as well Christie, that's a really valid point. A lot of the time we don't realise the damage we are doing by lifting "wrongly", especially if it's not hurting at the time
