.....be able to go on mumsnet every morning as soon as i have taken them to school..and read everyone's news 'hot off the press' (instead of at the moment where i reckon in the whole of the holidays i've managed only 3 or 4 'visits'

AND.......I will be able to go upstairs without having to make sure my 3 boys are occupied in 3 different rooms....and that i have 'guessed' every possible disaster/mischeif that Alex may think of doing.......

AND..........I will be able to wander round the charity shops again...haven't been in 1 in 7 weeks!!!!(Withdrawral Symptoms+++++++!)

AND...........can't wait for 3.15pm when i will be greeted by their smiley faces....and er the teacher's 'comments' as to what kind of day they have had!!!!!!

How about you..... what will you be able to do that you have sacrificed for the holidays?

have to go back to school myself

SoupDragon · 29/08/2004 21:28

Come home to a silent house... sigh.

nutcracker · 29/08/2004 21:29

Oh dear Pops

I will finally be able to finnish sorting the house out and unpacking all the boxes.

May even attempt a bit of diy

blossomhill · 29/08/2004 21:31

go shopping when I want to. I always think twice before dragging them both out.

coppertop · 29/08/2004 21:34

I look forward to spending the morning completely ignoring the visual timetable on the fridge and (within reason ) doing whatever I want.

I'm looking forward to a whole morning of not having to run to empty ds1's potty-chair before ds2 gets to it. Ds1 loves using child-sized toilets but not the full-sized ones we have at home.

I'm looking forward to not having to read Thomas the Tank Engine stories every morning. Arrgghh! At one point I even found myself subconsciously reading in a Ringo Starr voice.

And of course I look forward to seeing MrsF posting again.

Tommy · 29/08/2004 21:36

Have all our activities to do again! (I have pre-school children

slightlymad · 29/08/2004 21:37

erm - I really dont know!
Havn't been without ds as yet! - He starts school - his 1st day - on Friday!!!!
AND - I'm absolutely dreading it!!! I wanna keep him here with me!
(Is that sad??!!)
As for the girls - YAY - back they go!! And do they need it?? - Do they ever!

blossomhill · 29/08/2004 21:54

No Slightlymad it isn't. I felt as though my right arm had been chopped off when dd went full-time in January. A few pub lunches and I was fine though
It just means that I enjoy my 2 children so much more in the holidays, weekends etc.

Chocol8 · 29/08/2004 22:06

Ha ha ha Coppertop - Ringo Starr voice! I too, could give you a run for your money on that one....it's nice to know i'm not the only one! x

I will be looking for a new childminder, so that my ds has a great school holiday next year. x

Slinky · 29/08/2004 22:18

As of next Monday, ALL of my children will be at school all day :(

BUT I plan....

  1. to have a "posh" lunch with DH next Monday (DD2 first day at school). To quote DH "to celebrate the start of your new life!"

  2. not to switch PC on during the day as I'll end up wasting hours and hours on the blessed thing (didn't miss it at all on holiday)

  3. Crack on with my new Open University course

  4. Go clothes shopping for ME without having to rush back for lunchtime (when DD2 finished nursery) - even stop and have lunch/coffee

  5. Lots of swimming!

blossomhill · 29/08/2004 22:28

Slinky - Same here. I am only going on the pc at night. Otherwise nothing gets done!

coppertop · 29/08/2004 22:31

I'll definitely miss ds1 when he starts school, although he'll only be going for the mornings. He's turning into a real little character at the moment and has me in fits of laughter most days. The thing that I won't miss is having to keep to a rigid routine and structure all day and every day. I'm looking forward to being able to just put ds2 into his pushchair and go to the shops when I want/need to. Even better, I can actually go via a different route if I want to.

pepsi · 29/08/2004 22:32

ds starting reception in Sept but will still have dd at home, but nevertheless plan to:-

  1. Tidy and sort the house
  2. Cook super, wonderful fresh meals every day
  3. Get fit
  4. Keep in touch with friends and family
  5. do the garden
  6. Start christmas shopping
  7. Save the world
  8. Run for Prime Minisiter
  9. Watch the new series of Big Cook Little Cook
  10. Watch Phil and Fern and Richard & Judy

In reality:-
Miss ds loads and take dd out and about and play with her and do none of the above, but still be completely knackered at the end of the day!

????? Janh

eidsvold · 29/08/2004 23:54

the usual - as dd is no where near school age
oh how I envy you the thought of going shopping ALONE!!

Instead...

Try and prepare for no2 and fit in antenatal appointments, therapy appts and the such like without wearing both of us out.

geekgrrl · 30/08/2004 08:22

crack on with my translation course - got a 7 hour exam coming up in January with an average pass rate of 35%
ds starts 2 mornings at nursery next week, too. Bliss!!!! Might fit in a massage or something before my course starts again....

mrsforgetful · 30/08/2004 17:23

Pepsi......Big Cook Little Cook.....Hooray!!!!!! (have you made their Crispy Bricks yet?!)

Tommy- i know what you mean about the activities ending when the schools break up......roll on normality- that's what i say (there's me today planning to take leigh to the kids clinic about his warts.....and then i remembered it's a bank holiday and the world stops!

Another thing i will be able to do is fix the ceiling in the younger 2 boy's room....Alex ripped about 2ft square strip of wallpaper off the ceiling today- i've just used my good old faithful PVA gle and managed to stick it up in true Art Attack fashion. Yesterday he managed to stick over the t.v in the front room (and other furniture) all those tiny square stickers that come with new video tapes...you know the ones that have 1,2,3,4,5 etc and A,B,C,D, ETC AND 120,180,240 etc....you know the ones that we are supposed to stick on our videos to help organise and catalogue them....well in our case as soon as we open a video i have to throw away the sticker sheet- but alex found 3 sheets yesterday and we are still following the trail he has left.

Honestly ....I really will be amazed if he IS'NT Autistic too. Again....HFA....Aspergers ....but cannot see that he is NT.

Finally the paed listened to my BEGGING for a referal to Social Services- and we had an assessment 3 weeks ago- the worker has had a 2 week holiday since so hope she will 'be on our case' over the next week or so. One good thing that come out of it was Alex being seen in all his glory- and she agreed that we either have a case of the good old 'Attention seeking behaviour'...or else he may need assessing too. The reason i personally don't think it is attention seeking is that he can do some really 'odd and thoughtless' things during times when he is entirely the 'centre of attention' and more worrying is his lack of understanding of the consequences of his behaviour

I can't wait, already got uniforms washed and ironed ready to go, they don't go back till 7th.

I joined the gym last week, so I will be pampering myself that day, I feel a bit heartless not being upset about ds first day, I'll be the one in the playground shouting 'I'm free at last' - I will however look forward to seeing them at 3.15pm

daisy1999 · 30/08/2004 19:22

Get out on my cycle again. Go shopping. Catch up on 7 weeks worth of housework

daisy1999 · 30/08/2004 19:24

My 2 can't wait to get back but, in truth, I'll miss them.

I'm going to blitz our "box room" to make space for a tumble drier. I've always viewed them as a luxury, but I can't face a third winter in Cumbria without one! Any recommendations?

JanH · 30/08/2004 19:44

Have you really never had one before, roisin? It will transform your life! Don't use it for things straight out of the washer, give them a good shake and airdry them first (rack/banister/whatever) but finish them off in the drier for 10-15 mins and be poised to whip them out when cool, shake and fold/hang, NO IRONING REQUIRED! (Well maybe for shirts). I do this in the summer too.

If you get a condenser you won't need to vent it out of wall/window - there have been threads on this issue before. Some say they aren't as good as vented, some say they are just as good. Have only had vented so can't comment.

I will do you a "which" search in a min. I have a Creda one, it dries OK but the door is v small and if you pull a mass of eg towels out it tends to bring the door seal with it. However it does have reverse tumble and a 10 minute cool tumble at the end, both essential IMHO.

AuntyQuated · 30/08/2004 19:47

had a bosch vented - excellent

had to change to condenser because of moving it to another room
now have a bosch condenser - excellent again
