I have pushed him up and down the village, and around the garden, let him have a go himself, and he is soooo chuffed

Cried his eyes out when I said it was time to get out of it.

At last!!!!!!

Well, we had his sports day

Everyone made a big fuss of him in his new chair, and he did the first race in it. All the parents were clapping and cheering him on, and the look on his face was something to behold, he was beaming so hard I thought his face would split ! Of course I blubbed my way through the whole race, I was so proud of him. Then he decided he wanted to do two races crawling, so they gave him a head start, and again everyone was cheering him on, which is when dh started sobbing . They even made a crawling race specially for him, and all the children crawled alongside . Final race was a relay, and they stuffed the beanbag in his trousers, which he thought was hilarious

Then the nursery served soft drinks and wine, we sat and had a picnic, where he crawled about talking to his mates, then he went for a whizz up and down the hill in his chair.

He pushed himself about in dd2 and ds1's playground while we were waiting to collect them, pretending to be a police car, shouting "emergency emergency" at the top of his voice. He has such joy in his face and heart when he is in the chair, I am sooo overwhelmed with love and pride for him

And thank you all for such an amazing response. You don't know how much it means to me. We don't have any family to tell really, and you have more than made up for that

glad that you've finally got this sorted, and that ds is having such a good time enjoying his new vehicle - you'll soon turn into Paula Radcliffe racing after him thru car parks in it

Glad you all had a great day Lou. Well done to DS. How is DD1?

lou33 · 21/07/2004 23:25

Much better today thanks. Back to the stroppy near teen that she usually is . I am letting her get away with it today though, on account of the brilliant school report she came home with!

Dh now thinks I have completely lost it after catching me sniffling away at the computer. When he asked what was wrong all I could manage was to wail "They had a crawling race especially for him too-o-o-o!"

Can we see some piccies?

wobblyknicks · 22/07/2004 10:48

yes you will, just remind him of all the times he leaves dirty pants around and tell him that evens things up.

Easy · 22/07/2004 22:48

Lou, I've just caught up with this, late as usual, and I am SO VERY VERY PLEASED for you and DS. Chuffed too about his sports day, the new-found independence will do wonders for him, just wait.

Little tale for you.
I got my first w/chair when I was 4, the following year we went on holiday to Majorca. The hotel had a wonderful swimming pool, and of course I had quickly become a whizz expert in my chair.
On the first day of the holiday, My sister was in the pool, and I wizzed out to the pool side, right up to the edge, and Stopped sharp.
Every guest on sunloungers round the pool had sat up and taken a sharp breath, expecting me to finish up in the water. I never noticed, but my mum was both mortified and amused by the reaction.
My mum still tells the story, 39 years later (oh bggr, given my age away now)

Lots of love to you all.

Thomcat · 22/07/2004 23:16

LOL CT - I told my DP about the special crawling race too and the head start and it started me off agin too! What are we like!!!!
