Locking your child in bedroom at night...

Hi, I am just wondering how many of us there are who lock our child in their bedroom at night. I have just had to start doing this, for my DD's safety (She's be climbing over the stair-gate in her grobag otherwise) and after no joy with rapid return, found this to be the best option for now (she settles within about 15 minutes if she knows she has no chance of escaping!) but am still trying to come to terms with feeling like I am holding her prisoner!

MMDDWW- it worked really well - ds1 has only just got the strength to open them and he's almost 8 (and their a bit worn). He still recognises them as a sign that he has to stay in his room, so if he's being difficult about going to bed, they can still work (even though he can undo them now).

You really need to get the ones that are a single panel that you can screw really tight against the dooorframe. MOthercare used to do a really good one, but they've replaced it with something flash, with presure indicators and a bit that opens and its nowhere near as good. ToysRUs does one that works OK, not as good as the original mothercare one, but it does the job.

this is the type you need

we used the mesh type gate like jimjams, ours was from argos, we only needed to use one as my lot couldn't climb over and it would not have occured to them to drag a chair over to it! as they got older we took the gate away and they never even tried to come out of their room, the down side to this is that if they need the loo they wont come out the bedroom unless i go into them.
