Exciting news! The decision is made, from July Dd3 will no longer attend school.

I habe begun to take steps towards HE including buying a handwriting rescue pack and phoning the schools music service to check that she can still attend her after school band once a week!!

I am very excited and Dp is showing signs of enthusiasm as well which is about as good as it gets from him.

Cant wait to tell her now but just need to wait a bit longer.

This is the best place to ask those questions moomummy ! There are so many knowledgable people on here!

I learn something from here every single day Smile

Congratulations Ineed - I can feel the relief and optimism for the future warming my face from here!

Is there a MN SN HE group btw?

There's no chance of me going this route at all, barring total disaster. But if you lot ever fancied starting a thread along those lines, I'd get an immense amount out of it - ideas for reinforcing or introducing things at home etc etc. Just sayin'...

Anyone got any idea how lougle is getting on with her HE mission?

Ineedmorepatience · 22/04/2015 21:43

I think lougle had put her dd2 back into school! I might be wrong though Smile

You could put a call out for her, she does seem to still be around sometimes Smile

I dont think there is a MN SN HE group and we were trying to reduce the number of groups but maybe we could have a thread running at somepoint Grin

Perhaps am ongoing thread would be better. I don't think segmenting is that great, but it could be useful to have clear place for HE, for both sharing stuff and also for lurkers or those just interested for a potential future option and have questions.

Ineedmorepatience · 22/04/2015 22:05

Yes I think that would be great starlight it would be nice to have somewhere to share HE stuff on the SN boards, although saying that the HE board is out there too and there seems to be some parents with children with SN's over there. Smile

Hello,
Been following this thread as I home ed DS (8) ASD but still have DD (5) in school. A thread for HE SN would be great IMO.
Decided would rather put my efforts directly to help DS rather than fighting the system. I hate to say it but the fight people go through to get minimal support is shocking and then in my work (primary teacher) I constantly see hard fought for statements being ignored, children with SEN all being lumped together, needs being ignored or misunderstood.
And yes, a whole term's curriculum can be covered in a day.

streakybacon · 23/04/2015 06:44

MooMummy We've done exams. Ds has done IGCSEs at a local school that takes external candidates. Our LA doesn't offer this (they are pretty poor generally with HE) so we have to go to a different area, but it's not far and it's worth it for a good centre.

There's an excellent (and very busy) Yahoo group for discussing a wide range of exams, with loads of knowledgeable and experienced people. There's an exams wiki somewhere too. Fiona Nicholson's EdYourself is a mine of information too. It's all there, when you need it Smile.

But yes, they do change regularly so it's not worth looking into until you're nearly ready for them. Also worth keeping an eye on Joint Council for Qualifications if your dc will need access arrangements (extra time, keyboard etc).

streakybacon · 23/04/2015 06:45

Oh, and I think an HE SN thread would be useful, especially for those new to HE. MN's HE board is very good but sometimes it's helpful to have something a bit more specific, iykwim.

Yay Ineed that's brilliant news, you'll all have a blast I'm sure Grin

Ineedmorepatience · 23/04/2015 15:49

Hope so Grin
