Our school uses that and not Jolly Phonics.. Am on their site and trying to get my head round it.. The fact that our 5 yr old is non verbal with severe learning difficulties makes things harder..

Any tips on how to start?

Our ABA school uses it! It starts off just like jolly phonics - a letter sound at a time

Spent a fair bit of time on the read write inc yday. Got a very useful document from the TES forums.

Thanks for all the responses.

I have the Montessorium intro to letters but struggling to motivate my daughter.

I now kind of know where I am going with this...

What is frustrating me is that I cant get her to label point or tact the letters...

We have also really struggled to teach our DS letters but we installed some free apps called ABC Magic (there are quite a few) which he loves to play (matching letter to picture, eg. Letter 'd' to a picture of a duck) and he seems to have taught himself most of the alphabet! He seemed to be able to get the answers correct on the app (ABC Magic5) from early on but this didn't transfer to when we asked him. However he can now tact, point to and label most of the letters.

She can match an 'm' to an 'm' on flash cards...
She can point to the picture of an object in a field of upto 10 - say ball, bubbles, pen, playdoh, ipad, lego..
She is non-verbal, but has a few word approximations.. so if you show her the picture of a ball and say 'what's this' she will say 'bow'

shapes, colours, animals is the same.. She can match but cant point.. She can sort. But cant point to 'where is red'

She can respond to animal noises in approximations.. (I also think she has verbal apraxia). Cow says moo, sheep says baa, duck says aa-aa, cat says meo..

I think I know where the problem is(just typing it has brought this thought). She can match and tact the objects when they are 'real' pictures.. i.e. a line drawing of a ball will be lost on her. and letters are line drawings arent they! What do you guys think? Is that the step missing?

Are you saying I should get her to match 'cat' to 'cat' or 'cat' to the picture of a cat?

Okay i found the book second hand on amazon. Should be with me in a few days

zzz - sorry to be a pain. Should I print these words and laminate them and get her to match them to the object using hand on hand prompt and then fade it?
