Only a few days here, ds starts Weds. I am starting to feel very nervous.

How is everyone doing?

Anyone fancy a handhold over the next few days?

She went to nursery at the school and so far she has been very unsettled as new children are starting , he's convinced she needs to be around nt children , her school have said she is missing her old class , but she wouldn't manage mainstream lessons so I want to keep her where she is

Housesoftheholy · 09/09/2014 13:14

That's crazy autumn only a few days in!

autumnsmum · 09/09/2014 13:47

He's got a thing that being around non verbal children will hold her back , but the school have said she can visit her old classmates or do play sessions at a mainstream school ,

fairgame · 09/09/2014 14:07

Being around NT children isn't going to help her if she can't keep up with them. And if she is unsettled with new starters in a ss then she wouldn't cope in a ms school where the pupil turnover is much higher!

autumnsmum · 09/09/2014 14:15

Thank you fair ! Also as there is already a gap between her peers and dd2 as she gets older it will widen , also as people have pointed out up thread she has only been back 5 days

Housesoftheholy · 09/09/2014 17:58

autumn the majority of my ds's class is non verbal, and ds is very verbal, (albeit very disordered with it)

I am astonished the difference in him at Ss compared to how he used to come home from mainstream pre school, he is coping so much better.

I actually think for ds it is good for him to be around other children that are non verbal or have other communication difficulties, because although he speaks communication is still very difficult for him to express correctly what he wants to. A lot of language goes right over his head and some nt children can be ever so confusing for him

Thank you houses , I've noticed our Dcs seem quite similar , so it's good to hear your view

Housesoftheholy · 09/09/2014 18:19

Yes they do sound similar. There are so many other things to take into account too. I knew that ds couldn't access learning if he wasn't in the right environment because of sensory issues, processing and learning difficulties. Even though he's quite bright in some ways he has great difficulty learning.

Utimatly it would be far to early to tell for any child anyway

autumnsmum · 10/09/2014 12:12

Well dd2 refused to go in today , school are phoning us with a plan

Housesoftheholy · 10/09/2014 13:43

So sorry to hear that autumn. Do you think it is just the change or anything specific upsetting her?

autumnsmum · 10/09/2014 15:06

Thank you houses , it has been being with a different group of children , school have been amazing and are giving her time with her old class

hazeyjane · 10/09/2014 16:11

Hope you are able to sort out a gentle transition, Autumnsmum.

Ds is still struggling with the actual going in. He starts signing 'no school' from the minute he wakes up, and he escalates to screaming the whole time he is getting dressed, getting the girls to their bus, and getting up to school.

He settles in about 15/20 minutes once he is there, and is really happy when i pick him up. Apparently he signs for me throughout the morning, but doesn't get upset.

Hopefully meeting his new SALT soon, and arranging a meeting about how it is all going at the beginning of Oct. I am concerned about their attitude to signing and the AAC device he is supposed to be getting (because he has started saying 'yes', the teacher thinks he might not need signing......because we all know that one word is all that is needed to get by in life!)

Lunches start next week....that should be interesting!

Oh goodness hazey I really hope ds gets all the help he needs.

JJXM · 10/09/2014 16:48

Autumn and Hazey - sorry to hear about the school refusal - hopefully it will all settle down soon once it becomes routine - it's all very new for our DC - at least in a SS they are used to this kind of thing. Autumn what kind of plan are the school suggesting?

DS refused his school lunch on Monday and came home clutching his tummy he was so hungry - we've had to pack food for him.

autumnsmum · 10/09/2014 16:51

The school are giving her time with some of her old class and might move her into yr one if a space comes up . They and I agree that she is sociable but in the way that a 2 or 3 year old is
