As you all know we have had a really tough year with Dd3's school. Anyway to cut a very long story short I wrote to the SENCO expressing my disappointment in the support she has been providing. Anyway my letter has been passed on to the chair of governors and apparently he doesnt like the tone of my letter!!!

I have offered to meet him to explain why I am so pissed off and to show him the emails and texts and the folder full of stuff that has gone before the letter. Havent heard anything back yet!!

The final straw before I wrote the letter was 2 out of 3 IEP targets not being worked on for a whole term and senco failing to appear at a meeting we arranged by text to try to sort the whole mess out. We were in school meeting with the salt and she sent a TA to tell us she couldnt see us!! Also her telling the LA SEN rep that Dd3 doesnt need a SA!! Despite her suggesting to me that I should put in a parental request!!

I am not sure if I should have just zipped it and got through the next term until Dd3 leaves but why should we put up with the targets not being worked on when one of them was specifically to help her at secondary!! The other was simply to remind the staff to tell her about any changes which still isnt happening!! AngryAngry

At the end of the day this is about a child with Asd it doesnt really matter to me if I upset someone who is failing to do their job!!

If they don't like the tone of your letter, they can always feel affronted at you having the nerve to suggest you take them to tribunal. Though that's probably not worth it for just half a term and a bit. God on you for writing the letter. They can just jolly well feel uncomfortable.

ouryve · 02/05/2014 19:40

Good. Not God. Though that might be who the chair of the governors thinks they are.

Ineedmorepatience · 02/05/2014 19:45

Thanks ouryve, I think I am just having a wobble Sad I am really tired and fed up with it all.

I need to keep going though to get through the SA and attempt to get Dd3 a statement!!

Boo Hoo... You letter probably touched a nerve, so that's no your problem. School should have been doing what they had agreed to do.

How's this for a conflict of interest, ds (ASD) recently went to CAMHS to help with his anxiety surrounding school, and who were the sessions with... only the chair of bloody governors at his school!

Handywoman · 02/05/2014 20:04

Pfffft who cares what the Chair of Govs thinks about the tone of your letter ??????? It is of no significance.

who do these people actually think they are

Honk Honk Honk Honk Honk Honk Honk Honk Honk Honk

Handywoman · 02/05/2014 20:06

Blimey minion bet that came as a shock!!

Actually there is an conflict of interest issue with said senco too, she sits on the panel that looks at SA requests!!

LA didnt ask her to be a witness at tribunal, I wonder why!!

Well if relations are already soured I'd start firing detailed failings in writing for them to account for.

That way you'll have an increase in relevant evidence for the statement or appeal.

StarlightMcKenzie · 02/05/2014 21:48

It's all a lot easier once you've fallen out IMO.

We parents usually cling to polite hope far longer than we ought to because of our vulnerable position of sending our children unaccompanied into their care.

Ineedmorepatience · 02/05/2014 22:02

Yes I agree star I had to play the game to get through tribunal but that is done now!!

I have a feeling that the HT will try to bury it and pretend it is all fine, that is his way but he has been in meeting where senco has admitted that she hasnt done her job.

Its not just me who is peed off btw, another parent has been in an even worse situation than me with her Ds who cant tell her what goes on behind closed doors Sad

At least Dd3 can tell me when/if targets are worked on!!

Tell him it's not the tone but the content he should be concerned about, ask how he is going to ensure that in future he intends to ensure that the school fufils it's legal obligation to ensure that all children receive an adequate education.

OneInEight · 03/05/2014 08:41

Honks.

In our experience they might not like the letter of complaint but it certainly focuses their mind on getting the job done.

Rather than complaining about the complaint the governer could actually put some thought into how to improve things.

Ineedmorepatience · 03/05/2014 12:09

Makes me feel so much better that you all agree. As I said I have a feeling the HT will try to sweep it under the carpet because he knows I am right!!!

I have spoken to him a ridiculous number of times about IEP's and targets not being worked on.

Thanks again for your support Smile

Our SENCO sits on panel, too, though I had to explain to her that the tribunal process i was embarking on had nothing to do with that.

She tried to warn me, last year that DS1 was making too much academic progress to warrant a change of placement. I was quite grateful for that, tbh, as it prompted me to focus on the myriad other ways that he's not making progress and that, given that he was rarely in class, that academic progress was probably not at a rate that he's truly capable of. She's completely blanked me since our LA case officer persuaded panel to fund the place at the school we wanted for him and pulled out of the Tribunal proccess. DS2's AR is this term, so that should be interesting.Hmm

nennypops · 03/05/2014 13:41

I don't like his schools lazy half arsed attitude to their legal responsibility.

^

This. If the chair was doing his/her job properly, s/he would be looking into whether your concerns were justified and what to do to rectify matters, not whinging about the tone. What a pratt.

There should be a governor with specific responsibility for SEN, it could be worth contacting that person.

streakybacon · 03/05/2014 13:46

The chair is just flinging it back at you, trying to make YOU feel bad for daring to remark on lack of provision. You're in the right, and they will all know it, but it will make them feel better if they can discredit you.

Totally agree with calmly pointing out the content and asking what they intend to do about that. Actually, if you've got that much to complain about, it would be really difficult to put into writing without sounding angry and confrontational. They should be looking at WHY you sound angry and confrontation, IMO.

zzzzz love your comment from last night!! I missed it somehow. It made me laugh Grin I also think your Dh is right, others have said the same. It is the content of the letter that is important and it is a great letter even if I do say it myself. My friends Dh read it for me to check for errors (he is the punctuation police.) And even he said it was a good one Grin

nenny yes it was the SEN governor who forwarded it to the chair of governors!
I have dealt with her before and she has been helpful. She is not afraid to stick her head above the parapet.

I will wait and see what, if anything is said on Tuesday! Hmm

lougle · 03/05/2014 19:40

The Governors should only act on it if you've been through the complaints process (ie. to the HT) and are not satisfied with the result. They shouldn't be unofficially communicating a distaste of tone -certainly not through a third party, either! It's either a complaint requiring Governor input, or it's not.

Ineedmorepatience · 03/05/2014 19:53

That is interesting lougle ! It was the sen governor who came back to me and said that the HT, SENCO and CoG 's didnt like my tone!!

I actually feel today like I dont give a damn how they feel. None of this is about them!! Or me!! Its all about Dd3 and it always has been!!

What parent would put themselves through what I have done this year unless they had genuine concerns about their child!!
