At breakfast this morning me and DS were discussing things that we have in common (both have AS) and we said we should open a shop for AS/ASD people.
DS said in the shop would be :
No queing
No mithering - ie "are you ok, do you need any help"
The air conditioning would be on in the winter as we both like to be cold
There would be lots of spongebob things
There would be lots of Lego things
There would be lots of Simpson things
There would be lots of Thomas the Tank engine for the littler ASD people.
There would be no bangs or loud noises
There would be no smells
Burgers would be served plain with no relish or onions
There would be clocks everywhere
There would not be too much choice.
I thought this was brill, it was him using his imagination with a little help from me, ok his imagination revolves around Sponge bob/simpsons and food and times but hey its wonderful to get a conversation going that doesnt involve anything too obsessional.
Now we dont have any customers yet, so would anyone be interested in our shop?

Would love to come into your shop but do you think you could add the following for us :
no smiling at my ds until he's been in the shop 3 times
no litter/sticky bits on the shop floor
clean litter bins placed at every aisle
milkshake machine that never EVER breaks down
no piped music of any discription
lots of things he can touch to do with numbers & letters
hope to see you both soon !

jenk1 · 23/07/2006 17:38

definately octavia in fact we make it a rule to ignore our customers unless they tell us not too!!

Can all your customers listen to their own music and dance in quiet corners...

And is there a semi naked section for little boys who prefer their bums tobe out?

cause taht would be our kind of shop.

jenk1 · 23/07/2006 18:25

yes they can do that no problem in fact we encourage all sorts of behaviour and even have a "meltdown" corner where meltdowns can go on without people staring!!!!

OK, Ds doesn't have ASD but he would have been in heaven in your shop when he was younger, so on his behalf may I also suggest some large ceiling fans (to watch rather than be functional) and maybe a display of spinning holographic tops?

It sounds like a fantastic conversation jenk1, I have to say

jenk1 · 23/07/2006 18:33

we have fans and spinny things on order and i must add that i wont get any work done as i will be watching the spinning things too!!!!

(we used to take ds to John Lewis to gaze at the clock department as a treat, by the way!)

misdee · 23/07/2006 19:08

can you have a no touching people rule please. dd2 lashed out at a porter at the hospital the other week when he touched her hair.

and a space for twirling.

emmalou78 · 23/07/2006 20:07

jenk.

Do you think the big lottery fund would provide a grant so you can actually get this shop up and running. It sounds like the best place ever

nikkie · 23/07/2006 20:12

Washing machines for watching too!

oh great idea,s keep them coming!!!!
Yes every thing is in straight lines and all the products on the shelves are straight and all colours are in catagorys!!!
The problem i have now is that DS thinks that it is real and that we are opening an ASD shop and when i told him that we were using our imagination he said that all the mumsnetters wont know this and that its mean to let everyone down!!!
There are also badges in 3 catagories.

1 Green, which says i will answer your questions
2,Amber, which says i dont want to talk
3,Red , which says Dont look at me.

Oh and DS says little sisters arent allowed unless they are ASD because they are too messy!!

OP posts:
misdee · 23/07/2006 20:43

can you leave a little untidy corner so my dd2 can straighten things up to her hearts content? pleeease

jenk1 · 23/07/2006 20:54

yes we can have a messy corner that must be tidied up.

OP posts:
jenk1 · 23/07/2006 20:58

DS has stipulated that we have an "obsession" corner which must be at least 3 feet tall and 2 miles long!!1, its a very big shop, now then what shall we call it?

OP posts:
jenk1 · 23/07/2006 21:00

DH has suggested "aspergers and chips"
DS has suggested "aspergers express" or "Auti express" or "Auti Market"
or "Auti Land"

You must never alter the shop's layout.

There should be a map showing the layout as you enter the shop.

There should be a range of flapping-activated gadgets.

There must be at least 100 buttons to be pressed.

Aisles should be extra wide so that the rest of us can still get past when there is an assortment of children all staging a lie-in in the aisle.

misdee · 23/07/2006 21:26

nice cool tile flored perfect for rolling on.

coppertop · 23/07/2006 21:34

Anyone who tuts or stares gets forcibly evicted by security guards wearing Cybermen costumes.

There is also a huge section for computers/Playstations/Gameboys and a Sci-Fi section.

nikkie · 23/07/2006 21:49

Love the cyber-security guards

onlyjoking9329 · 23/07/2006 22:27

great idea, and can you sell chocolate kitkats but they must be the two finger sort and they must not be broken !, and an area with argos books, and walkers plain crisps but must be a plain packet with none of those book tokens on them, in fact can you ban any promotional packets please

nikkie · 23/07/2006 23:02

Do you have to have kit kats in foil too?
I kids I work with won't eat the ones in the plasticy packets.

jenk1 · 24/07/2006 10:40

Yes our company can do all of that and NEWSFLASH.... there will be a corner for counting, nothing else just counting, (thats for me btw )!!!!

OP posts:
nikkie · 24/07/2006 19:37

Jenk - counting into piles? fantastic!
