Have just come home from parent's evening and I'm so upset. DD1's (aged 6) report was terrible, she has made no process in a year, and its still working towards 95% of the targets. I cried in front of the teacher Then I spoke to the SenCo/head and he had a ton of reports and a form to start the statementing process. He said that she has 4 areas that cause concern (physical (cp) behaviour, visual and most importantly learning) He said that she is the most delayed child in the whole school and needs 100% support to help her process. I then burst into tears in front of him,
Stupid thing is that I KNEW that she would struggle in mainstream school have known it for years, but to hear someone said it out loud and agree with us, its heartbreaking...

aw that's a gorgeous photo.......

nothing to add, just lots of sympathy and hope you do feel stronger after you've slept on it

What a lovely picture ! I have cried in front of teacher for much less than that, I think they are probably well used to it. As the mother of a child who often really struggles socially, the bit about popular and friendly is hugely important. At the end of the day when it comes down to it, I think being able to have good supportive friends counts for pretty much more than anything else in life . I will keep my fingers crossed that this report means she will get the help she needs and I bet in a year's time this will seem like a horrible memory, though that is no comfort at the moment.

What a gorgeous photo! You can see that she is full of personality & I am not at all suprised that she is so popular.

SGK

We (DS and myself) thought your daughter looked fab.

Re your comment:-
"have applied 2 times before but it was declined". Did you appeal their crass decision, on what grounds did they decline the assessment?. What LEA are you in?. I would name and shame them to IPSEA.

Would suggest that you write as the parent to the LEA yourself rather than get the school to do it. Your words carry more weight when it comes to assessment and you have the right to appeal. Also if you apply for assessment yourself you'll knopw its been done then.

Apologies if you are already aware of IPSEA but they are very good at getting parents through the minefield of LEA's and statementing. Their web address is www.ipsea.org.uk.

I wish you well and hopefully your daughter will have a Statement next year.

she loves people, she will hug anyone (much to some people's disgust lol )

Have just checked out the Ipsea site. I have to write a letter myself, the SenCo said to do it from my heart, what is in my heart prolly wouldn;t go down well tho. I feel that the LEA (herts BTW) have let her down and its down to them that she is so far behind, because if they had given her a statement when I applied when she was 3 or 4, she wouldn't be this far behind now.

SGK.

Just wanted to say (((hugs))) and offer you my sympathy, maybe in the face of such devastating evidence the school will present a good cse for your daughter with regard to statementing. I looked at the picture and she is a beautiful happy looking little girl. I hope they can get your LEA to assess her and through statementing get a realistic amount of support, or more appropriate schooling sorted for her.

take care xx

Hi SGK

Herts LEA are well known for being complete and utter barstewards and I don't even live in that county. I'm over the county line in Essex and that shower are incompetant to put it mildly.

Do write a letter to the top bod at the LEA asap and if they say no seek advice from IPSEA. They can help you. You may well have to threaten them with court action in order for them to move their collective behinds.

IPSEA's website also have template letters you can use.

Never though give up - you are your DD's best and only advocate. She needs a statement and you're the best person to obtain it for her.

So sorry you are going through this sgk

have u looked into a more specialist school for your dd where they can meet her needs better?

joanna4 · 12/07/2006 22:37

I support a child with global delay in mainstream school I have been her constant for a few months and she has made really good progress.I have only skim read this thread so my apologies if I missed this does she have 1 to 1 support and if not why not she is priority candidate. Her report went out today how different to last year the whole picture now looks.Fingers crossed she gets the support she needs. How awful and blatently disreagrding your feelings was this that they saw fit to mention this in such a manner it is unacceptable.

SparklyGothKat · 12/07/2006 23:02

she has 45 minutes a day 1-2-1, thats all the school could get from the LEA

Oh sparkly, your post has made me so
I just know where you are coming from with that "most delayed". It's not the same at all but my ds1 has really been struggling (he's just finishing yr 2). He was on the SEN register in yr 1 and I reckon now he's right at the bottom of the year. It chokes me to think about it.
But all our children are so special and have so many wonderful things to offer.
I know it's hard, but it does sound as if you would at least get good support for a statement application and 1-1 support for DD.
It must have been hard to hear what the teachers said, but it is good, really, to know where you stand.
It just doesn't feel like it right now, I guess.
Gorge photos btw
