Am so gutted :(:(:( (dd1's school report

Have just come home from parent's evening and I'm so upset. DD1's (aged 6) report was terrible, she has made no process in a year, and its still working towards 95% of the targets. I cried in front of the teacher Then I spoke to the SenCo/head and he had a ton of reports and a form to start the statementing process. He said that she has 4 areas that cause concern (physical (cp) behaviour, visual and most importantly learning) He said that she is the most delayed child in the whole school and needs 100% support to help her process. I then burst into tears in front of him,
Stupid thing is that I KNEW that she would struggle in mainstream school have known it for years, but to hear someone said it out loud and agree with us, its heartbreaking...

Oh, SGK, I'm so sorry. Did they indicate whether or not they think mainstream schooling the right thing for her? Does your dd enjoy school?

but even if she is the most delayed, I bet she is one of the most delightful and special children

have they come up with an action plan?

she is on IEPs and has 4 1/2 hours a week support atm, she needs 100% support so we have to start the statementing process again (have applied 2 times before but it was declined)

was they supportive? it at least sounds like you've a really solid case for getting the extra support, x

Awful for you. What do they propose to do to support her? Did they say positive things as well? sorry not trying to belittle how you feel, just wonder how they see the way forward.

the teacher and the Senco both said 'but you knew this!!!' yes I did, but to see and hear it right in front of me devastated me....

I'm so sorry . As you say it is one thing to think it to yourself but quite another to have to face someone else telling you. Do hope this is a route to getting her practical support though to help her achieve more at that school. Bless her she's only 6

Did they have any positive things to say that you can hang on to? Did they give you any ideas of things you can work on at home with her to help her at school? What do they intend to do to help her?

and she is, she is lively and loud and loves to play with anyone. Can;t believe I cried... i feel like a twat

I'm sure anyone would have cried in that situation - hope you are feeling a bit better now.

bundle is right - at least you have some proper ammo for your statementing process now

Well, that does sound like something to be pleased about. If she still manages to be a child that has lots of friends and fun at school despite her issues, that says a lot about her.
Not sure if it is wanted but have one any way {{{{{{hug}}}}}}
BTW, dd1 has her own learning difficulties at school. I did know that something was up before she started reception but I was completely unprepared for how devastated I would feel when her teacher actually articulated the problems during a consultation. It's a lot to take in and I completely empathise.

God, I cry at virtually every consultation. Don't worry about it. I actually think that parents who cry a bit are much less worrying to teachers than the parents who couldn't give a toss.

How could they ever think it would be helpful to say to a parent that their child was the most delayed in the whole school??

I think he wanted me to know just how far she is behind, because I tend to compare her to Ds (8) who also has CP but no learning difficulties (and who had a brilliant report and is reading at an aged 12 level!)

Im sorry to hear this Sparklygothkat. Its not very nice to hear from others the negatives, when we know how beautiful and special our children are. I dont know what else to say to cheer you up, only hopefully your daughter gets the extra hours of one to one and this will help her.

It is lovely that she is popular & friendly though. I imagine that she is a lovely little girl.
