Honks needed

Hi all. I should find out today if my son has a place at special school and get his final statement this week. Just sitting here with a coffee contemplating making the call. I have name changed several times over the last year but this forum has been invaluable in seeing me through multi assessment, diagnosis, statutory assessment and how to handle school issues, not mention a bereavement. I can't think of a single person in real life who has offered even close to the support and practical advice. So here I am, 18 months down the line, wondering which way it is going to go.

Send me honks! I am procrastinating here, I need to make that call.

It doesn't matter which way it goes. One way is considerably less work and I wish you the best of luck for that.
But the other way doesn't mean it's over. It just means a bit more work.

GoblinGranny · 12/06/2013 10:08

You know that you are not alone, and that whatever the outcome, there will be people that will listen and help as best they can.
So , and make the phonecall, and ride the wind that's coming.

WaitingIsWhatIDo · 12/06/2013 10:13

Thanks. You hit the mail on the head Starlight. If it means appeal/tribunal then I have a fight ahead. If he gets the place, it's less work, but not exactly going to be cracking open the champagne I'll leave that to the Headteacher Whichever way I look at it, this s going to be a bit of a crap day.

Honestly, you'll survive this Grin

rosielou678 · 12/06/2013 10:23

.

(Star, do you think the MNSN's team song should be 'I will survive' Wink )

StarlightMcKenzie · 12/06/2013 10:25

You know what. It's quite fitting. The walking out part being reference to bloody useless services that discharge you because they haven't got the time or the resources to help.

Many of our children make progress despite them not because, and a considerable number without them.

WaitingIsWhatIDo · 12/06/2013 10:47

I made the call. He got the place. Starts September.

Fantastic news! Phew! Is it too early for a Wine ?

WaitingIsWhatIDo · 12/06/2013 10:59

Probably best I don't turn up plastered to collect them lol but I will be having a Baileys on ice tonight. I have just bawled for 10 minutes but I'm okay now. Well I look like shit but got a few hours to sort that out. I know it's not trend of the story but it closes a horrible chapter.

The end of the story!

Onwards and Upwards and sometimes straight through the bloody middle.
With a machete.
Good luck with the next stage.

OneInEight · 12/06/2013 11:04

Well done!

StarlightMcKenzie · 12/06/2013 11:16

Ah brilliant news! Well done.

The way I prefer to think of things is that my ds 'could' do well in mainstream school but he wouldn't, which is THEIR failing not his.

StarlightMcKenzie · 12/06/2013 11:17

Good luck for Sept, and congratulations. No need to tell you your ds is lucky to have you, but I will anyway Grin

KOKOagainandagain · 12/06/2013 11:28

Fantastic news! I know you were prepared to go to tribunal and things may seem like a bit of an anti-climax so give it time to sink in. Smile

WaitingIsWhatIDo · 12/06/2013 11:35

Aw thanks. You are right, it is a tiny bit of anti climax, I have imagined myself in all sorts of heated exchanges and how to play it at tribunal but ultimately, it means I can get my ducks a bit more in a row. Two years ago I though he was off to school, I would be back to work, we had a million pans and then the shit hit the fan and I've been limping along ever since. Good job I didn't have a crystal ball. My head is spinning with how much this changes everything, for him and us as a family. Thank you so much, I need to go and dry my hair and apply make up now so I don't turn up to school looking like a sobbing mess. I haven't done that in two years and I'm bloody well not starting it now !

Dance into school singing 'I will survive survived' to all those who stood in your way of your DC getting a basic British human right (an education).

iwanttoscream · 12/06/2013 11:48

Well done my dd is also starting ss in september, waiting for the postman to deliver the paperwork! I shall be very relieved when the paperwork is done, as last week dd second choice sent transition appointments to us last week. Talk about panic!

iwanttoscream · 12/06/2013 13:24

How old is your ds? Has he got to travel far? dd's one is less than 3 miles, her 2nd choice was over 20. I can remember once the statement arrived and named ss, for days i kept checking it with relief, no tribunal. You can/will now sleep well tonight.

autumnsmum · 12/06/2013 13:28

Well done same here with dd2 kept checking statement and was so relieved when ss sent a letter about transition!

Bluebirdonmyshoulder · 12/06/2013 13:53

Great news, well done you! Smile

pannetone · 12/06/2013 14:06

Great news! Grin

When you wrote 'I would be back to work, we had a million pans' I first thought you meant you had a cookware business to get back to... (I am easily entertained by typos/auto -corrects!) Anyway good luck with all your plans for the future.

StarlightMcKenzie · 12/06/2013 14:09

I thought it was east London slag for 'pounds' and thought 'lucky you!'

iwanttoscream · 12/06/2013 14:23

WAITINGISWHATIDO, hope you enjoy your bailey's on ice while you make your million plans (smiley face) as i don't know how to a link from smileys list.
