Just that really. DS has been doing it a lot over the past couple of days - he's 27 months.

He's very fond of spinning things but apart from that (if that's not just part of normal development, which it might be), he seems to be developing as expected. Speech was late (almost nothing till 24 months) but now uses 2-3 words sentences, lots of eye contact, interested in other children etc.

Not too great with imaginative play as he prefers physical play but will eg feed a teddy, scan his toy shopping if encouraged.

I have a history of anxiety issues so may be completely over thinking things...

By 'that woman scientist with autism' do you mean Temple Grandin? I don't think your research can be very rigorous if you don't know her name.

I think zzzzz is spot on.

Hi Research, I have a dx of asperger syndrome and therefore have autism spectrum disorder ( i had not speech delay and was rather early). I always relish the opportunity to educate others on the subtleties of autism spectrum disorder. So here you go, research: the definition of autism has changed over the years. The criteria is that the person difficulties has to answer to the triad of impairment which is difficulties in social communication, interaction and social imagination ( including repetitive pattern of behaviour and/or need for routine). The reason autism is becoming more known is because it is coming out of the shadow, please do not get in the way of that by spreading misconspections that are ill informed. It is the only way people with autism will be able to get the help and support they often desperately need.

I wasn't meaning to come across as 'American-bashing' in general Alice. Just this individual.
I was also thinking of 'Autism Speaks, ' and some of the Bible Belt cures for being on the spectrum. And the school in Massachusetts that was investigated a couple of years ago. By the UN section responsible for investigating torture.
Specific instances of bad practice and worrying viewpoints. Rather like the OP's.
