Assessment for a major buggy

I dont know whether I have mentioned before but we have applied for a major buggy. DD has her assessment next week to see if she needs one. They will prioritise and then if they think she is bad enough they will put her on the list. I dont know whether it will be sorted before we move. We applied ages ago and they just dont seem very motivated.

Anyway going off track now. Just wondered what the assessment actually is. I have got to travel 15 miles with her on the bus to another hospital and may have to take ds with me aswell (most likely) How long does it take? and what do they do? ThanksSmile

Thats a bit odd Mabs. Mind you, having sid that, ds2 is waiting to be reassessed to see if he needs a wheelchair, and he is 3! They are supposed to last for years aren't they?

Hi Mabs, that's really strange... My son (nearly 6), got a major buggy last week, and I tried it out of curiosity, with the footrest on lowest setting I fit into it comfortably, (and I'm 5'5"!!!). Perhaps a second opinion is in order, or just pick one up from Ebay, there's usually about 1 a week up for sale, and I've seen them go really cheaply.

many thanks all - I'm so sick of this all at the mo. The only positive thing is that i have an ot appt next week which i've been waiting for 6 months.

hi artistmum
is your buggy brand new there more comfortable seats padded en it more than mine is the metal got cushions over them? just mum looked at them for mine but dont fit coz it old one your son likes it pleased that he does bye

artistmum · 15/04/2004 13:39

Hi Viva

No, the seats on the new ones are just as bad as the old ones, and my son finds the metal at the sides very uncomfortable, so I've ordered the padded seat and bits to cover the metal, and a raincover and the sunshade that's needed to hold the raincover up, but they have not arrived yet.

My back and knees go sometimes, and I sometimes have to use a lightweight wheelchair. they are SO MUCH more comfortable than the buggy, and the suspension is much better, so its not as bumpy (I tried his out), and they can weigh about the same. Mine weighs just 500g more than the buggy, and its not an expensive model. It is easier to push than the buggy, and fits in a car boot easily as it has quickrelease wheels. It takes no longer to collapse or put up again than the buggy does. I really reccommend you try to get a wheelchair instead, its so much comfier. even if you, like me, are not strong enough to push yourself around for long,it would give you a bit more independence, its nice to be able to wheel myself around a shop for example.

Hi Viva

My son is nearly 6, he doesn't find it that comfy, but prefers it to the pain in his feet
