Jacqui's going through a bit of a difficult time at the moment. If anyone is moved by the programme can you write something here that I can forward onto her. I know she would appreciate it.

Cheers!

JanH · 13/01/2004 19:34

Jimjams, should I try to find the thread from when it was on before? There were loads of positive comments on there IIRC. Or did you send it to her at the time?

Jimjams · 13/01/2004 19:36

Yeah I sent it to her- and she was really chuffed. I just think she could do with a boost at the moment- so anymore from anyone who sees it again/for the first time- please contribute

popsycal · 13/01/2004 19:36

I will tape this - read the book but not seen the programme
Jimjams - pass on the fact that I was overwhlemed by her son's intelligence and insight - and it has certainly made me a better teacher

JanH · 13/01/2004 19:43

Did you send her this one too? (From the Sunday Times piece.)

Don't know if I will see it again tonight - bit late for me and I don't do technology these days - but when I saw it before I was so impressed by her patience, how well the family functions despite all its complications (and the girls were just lovely!) and what a perceptive boy Luke is. I'm sorry to hear she is having a diffficult time - hope it's fixable.

coppertop · 13/01/2004 19:55

I watched it the first time round but I think it might have been in my pre-Mumsnet days.

I know he was worried about trying to impress the girls but I'm surprised Luke hasn't got his own on-line fan club by now. He came across as a highly intelligent person too and I recognised sooo much of dh and ds1 in him too. Joe seemed like the kind of boy who would have you in fits of laughter. A real little charmer! Ben was very cute and has come so far.

I know Jacqui mentioned in her book that her house is always full of other people's children. I'm not surprised. I think I'd want to be there too. What a gorgeous family. Jacqui must be so proud of them all.

I'm hoping to watch it again tonight so thanks for the reminder.

RexandBen · 13/01/2004 21:09

Jim Jams - please pass on my love and best wishes to Jacqui and this awful time for her. She's an amazing woman with incredible kids.

Jimjams · 13/01/2004 22:09

Thanks everyone- I'll forward all these tomorrow - keep them coming.

Jax I think you are a star

mrsforgetful · 13/01/2004 22:50

Jaqui: I've seen the programmes, got the books and would wear the T-shirts (go on.....make some t-shirts!)

I have watched the 'My Family' programme at least 20 times!!!!

My ds3 is 5 in May and like BEN spends most of his days naked!!!!! Still uses dummies....not just yellow circle ones though! But only a certain make of dummy!!! And reminds me of JOE when he puts on at least 5 different t-shirts- when he can't decide what to wear!

My ds2 fits perfectly within the pages of your MULTICOLOURED MAYHEM book in that he is the undiagnosed one...the battle is only just beginning and your book is my 'trainer/coach'!!!

My DS1 is LUKE'S twin!! (though he's blond!) He's 10 going on 21 and has AS and ADHD (so has the humour and fun of JOE!)He has a 'squint/lazy eye' so though for different reasons when I saw luke for the first time his eyes reminded me of DS1!!!!!!He's FOREVER adding wallpapers to the p.c and changing colour schemes! Loves his playstation- and on another BBC learning programme you and looked were on you described mealtimes to luke were tolerated simply as he would be back to the playstation/p.c later! DS1 has tried contacting Luke direct...but I did warn him that Luke probably gets 100's of emails!!!!

Also in Multicoloured Mayhem- I love the way you describe days out and MELATONIN (what a lifesaver it is for my boys and me!)and the bit about how hard it is to even manage to go anywhere with all the boys....It's reading that which has helped me 'assert' myself and tell people that it is just too difficult/exhausting for us to go out...and I feel less guilt now !

There is so much more I could say.

There is nothing I would love more than to be able to email you direct- but you must get that request all the time!

Tinker · 13/01/2004 22:54

JimJams - saw this the first time she was on and me and my mum still talk about how wonderful she was and what a great family she has. Think they're all stars

mieow · 13/01/2004 23:00

Jimjams, Jax is on another SN board that I am on and I have just found out what happened, please send my love to her.

IS ANYONE VIDEOING IT?
i realy want to watch it but have to do work for tomorrow which i cant put off
have no video tapes...well, no time to find one...anyone?

fio2 · 13/01/2004 23:19

mrsforgetful will do a copy for you popsSmile

popsycal · 13/01/2004 23:20

eh fio?

mrsforgetful · 13/01/2004 23:41

POPSYCAL.... I have about 4 hours of SEN progs recorded- including the 'my family' programme
I would love to copy them for you- as a teacher i think there are 2 other great programmes on there- both BBC Learning Zone aimed at teachers but on at 3am so no one sees them!!! 1 of them is just AS and shows the inclusion in school and features Luke. the other is about ADHD but also features Tourettes

I have 2 tapes 'pending' for 2 other mumsnetters-i dismantled the 2 vcrs i had connect to copy tapes (my husband wanted to use the recorder in the front room....I had moved it to the other recorder!!!!He did suggest posting on mumsnet a request to use his video rcorder!!! He reckons i'd do it then!!!)
So basically at the moment i need to get the videos connected when noones home and then all i have to do is start recording!

This offer is for ANYONE!!!!

Email me at :

[email protected]

and i will mail you my name and address- then the easiest way to do this is if you then send me £2 (postage stamps will be fine as i use loads!!) or a cheque.... then i'll use a brand new tape and post it to you in a jiffy bag.
I have to be honest the sound quality is not so great (you lose it in the copying process) but I think it would score 8 out of 10!

So please email me and i will get my act together and get on with the 2 tapes 'ordered' already!

popsycal · 13/01/2004 23:43

is that ok?
would £2 cover it?
Will mail you tomorrow mrs f!!

mrsforgetful · 14/01/2004 09:54

Yes! (i'm just using my husband's stock of tapes ! He! He! He!)

I just wish my boys were at a school where they had a teacher who was as interested and driven to learn about Autism as you....just one in every school would make such a difference-- i've 'offered ' for them to watch the tape...lukewarm response....if i were a teacher i'd say that i'd take it home and watch it over the course of a week or so....I know teachers have losts of your own 'homework' etc...but I think that YOU- POPSYCAL have the right idea- which is to learn more about ASD which in turn will make teaching 'easier' (well that's my theory!!!!)

Look forward to doing this for YOU!

coppertop · 14/01/2004 09:57

Well I watched it again and it was just as good as I'd remembered. I wonder what Jacqui will say though when she finds out that we're all busy swapping tapes of her family.

Jacqui - A very big thankkyou from our family for all the work you and the rest of your family have done in raising awareness of AS/autism/ADHD/ dyspraxia and all those other 'hidden; conditions that the rest of the world would seem to prefer to forget about. J hope things get better for you soon.

My DH and I sat full of admiration for you Jaqui. I don't know how you hold it all together but your levels of pateince are an inspiration. I am struggling to do a Masters without the difficulties you have and I was put to shame watching you last night.
Hang in there

fio2 · 14/01/2004 12:27

I know the programme of Jaqui's family was lovely. I do not know how she copes, she is amazingSmile

Jimjams · 14/01/2004 12:53

Thanks everyone- hectic day today but will forward this tonight.

Meiow- will do

maddiemo · 14/01/2004 16:05

Jacqui, all your children are so wonderful.
Take care, love to you and the gang.

Eulalia · 14/01/2004 18:38

Hope you are feeling better soon Jacqui. Don't know how you cope... I've just got one ds 4.5(autistic) and a dd 20 months and find it hard enough work with them. ds is going through a stage (short lived I hope) of ordering me about

I think you have a wonderful family.

all the best
Eulalia xx
