Badvoc · 21/09/2012 20:05

Hello everyone!
Thought I should start a new thread as we were nearing 1000 posts! :)
Indigo is no longer posting as you all know, but I think it would be such a shame for the support thread to go too.
I know I find reading about all the ups and downs we all experience very helpful and it's so great to hear all the progress :)
So.
We go back to TH next month and can't wait. So interested to see of the tracking programme has worked. I think ds1s reading speed has improved and he is now reading proper chapter books!
He continues to show less anxiety, OCD behaviour and stress.
He is eating better and is generally a much happier chap.
Looking forward to hearing from you all over the next few weeks/months...X

Badvoc, I have just fallen off the sofa. 14... 56 first cousins... I'm not surprised at the frogs!! I have 2 cousins and we find it difficult to stay in touch. We are the 'London' cousins because we live in the South Smile
Know what you mean about DH trips. Every time mine goes away, something goes wrong. He is away tonight but I have my fingers crossed. I would like us to move so that we have some neighbours!

Pleased about your Mum.

Badvoc · 26/02/2013 21:08

Its just a bit embarrassing at times...
Walking down the street when I go to Ireland to see relatives and someone says hello and I say hello back and smile and they then tell me we are related...:)
Happens A LOT.
So glad my parents stopped at 3 :)
I stopped at 2 and Tom reliably informs me he is never getting married or having children!

Ruggles · 26/02/2013 21:10

That is so funny and I don't blame Tom. x

Badvoc · 26/02/2013 21:11

Me either but I do worry it's the example dh and I have set!
:)
Oh dear.

Badvoc · 26/02/2013 21:12

....he is getting a dog though, and has already told me I will be looking after it whilst he is "at my work"!
Cheeky monkey.
How was ds today?

OP posts:
Ruggles · 26/02/2013 21:18

DS has been very funny. Unusually he was up at 5 - totally excited about going to school. He normally sleeps until nearer 7. We bounced all the way to school and he couldn't wait to go in. When I picked up the teacher was still smiling and said he was an angel all morning. He lay down and refused to move down the path - apparently all my fault as I'd bought DD out of the car. So tired and grumpy all afternoon, but I feel a bit like that too! It's all been quite draining.

I know that we will probably have a weeks grace before the wheels fall off, but we are away on holiday next week and then there's only 2 weeks until the Easter holidays which last a month. So, really another 7 weeks for TH stuff to keep on working their magic.

Ruggles · 26/02/2013 21:20

Dogs are good.

Badvoc · 26/02/2013 21:29

All sounds really positive :)

Thank you, fingers crossed Smile

Badvoc, pleased to hear your mum is on the mend and sorry to hear your latest family woes. Does everyone start getting slightly nervous when your other half boards a plane? (Hope that doesn't sound flippant)

My dh is from a large family of Irish descent and they're all having a big meet-up next summer. I've declined to go along, mainly on the grounds it's a long way to go for me to spend the whole time on babysitting (if that's the right word for your own kids!) duty while he and his long-lost rellies from America go out and get daft every night...

Veering back onto the TH track... just wanted to say that today has been one of those days that have shown how far ds has come this year already. I took him to his OT appointment (he goes every 4-ish weeks and he really has NOT taken to the bloke who's assigned to him - poor guy, he's ever so nice.) I was half-dreading another session of ds refusing to do any of the exercises - so I was absolutely astonished to watch him walk in and instantly start chattering away to Mr OT: answering his questions, laughing and joking with him, telling him what he's reading and doing at preschool. Mr OT just looked through his notes and said "Wow... it's like he's just come to life!"

And that is honestly how I feel today.

I am just imagining his brain as a series of little lights, with more and more suddenly blinking away and burning brighter. It's wonderful.

Badvoc · 26/02/2013 22:19

How lovely :)
So pleased for you x

Ruggles · 27/02/2013 07:12

Worrier - that sounds great, so positive. I think its wonderful when other people notice the changes - we are very attuned to it all and see the step-by-step differences, but for someone else to see him 'come to life' is wonderful. I love the idea of his brain lighting up too. Smile

Badvoc · 27/02/2013 13:14

Tom is doing quite well with lumosity.
Some days better than others.
The memory and attention scores are very high, but the flexibility not so much.
The hope is that the results will show robin what Tom needs to work on next.
I just wish that - like so many of you - I had started this when he was younger
:(
But I have to put aside my regret and get on with it.
He is still a it under the weather and its assessment week at school next week so hoping he is better by then!
It's the last assessment prior to him going to middle school so it's important.
This week so far has been mostly not good with hints of horrible, so hoping it gets better! :)

Well I am going to jump in and be a bit more positive this week.

DD is sleeping better again and after a few weeks of terrible sessions at the SALT this week was amazing.

She was able to identify which sounds were noisy and which were quiet and then when asked to could point to each of the sounds. She hadn't seen many of them before.

Me and the SALT just sat there like this Shock I was saying 'that is good right?' and the SALT was like 'that is really good'.

Her speech seems clearer and she is using more and more words and having more and more conversations as opposed to set speech exchanges!!

So we are having a good week this week which I am pleased about as last week I was in tears :)

Badvoc · 27/02/2013 17:41

Prince...wow. That's great :)

WorrierPrincess · 27/02/2013 21:41

Fantastic news Prince, you must be so thrilled x

Ruggles · 28/02/2013 05:57

Prince - that is wonderful to hear. I hope you've been doing the happy dance around the kitchen Grin Grin.

DaftMaul · 28/02/2013 09:23

I have had real problems trying to get MN pages to load this week, it has been so frustrating! Not sure if it is/was my broadband, iPad or website issues.

Badvoc - so sorry to hear about your bereavement. Glad you have lots of happy and recent memories. You have and a tough time with illness and hospitals recently. Sounds as though Tom is doing well still. How is the project?

Princerogersnelson - great news about the toileting improving and wow at the SALT session, that really is a fabulous change.

Ruggles - I wonder how far you live from me? In the same city from the sounds of it! So glad ds has had a positive start to the new school. What a relief after making a big decision to move.

WorrierPrincess - again, wow at the OT session! I have been looking for high protein yoghurt after you mentioning it! Where do you get chobani from?

Bdaonion - sounds as though the convergence program is going well. Isnt it great when the improvement transfers over? You know it is helping which makes it all worthwhile.

Lookslikerain - glad your trip to Robin's went well and ds enjoyed it. Breakfast can be tricky for us as ds often has little appetite first thing in the morning and isn't really a cooked breakfast fan either. He seems to go through phases of wanting the same thing for weeks and then suddenly not wanting it again! I have started baking more since TH - at least I then know what goes into things! Over time , I think, we become less strict about the diet and every now and again I tighten up on what I buy!

Who have I missed out?! Grin

So, ds. Big grins yesterday when he went up a level on tracking. At last!!

Badvoc · 28/02/2013 11:37

There have been iPad issues this week daft, had problems myself x
The project is going ok...he decided against a waterfall - with strong silent support from me! - and has done a river with sand banks and rocks.
It looks pretty good actually.
Tom is doing a recorder recital at church today :) so he will be in a foul mood when he gets home...he hates it!
Been a rough week so far, but dh is home and the sun is shining :)

Evening

DS had some bloods done yesterday - it took 65 mins as they couldn't find a vein... He was a star. Today we've been back at nursery and they are still smiling, but don't say how he got on. He was horrific this afternoon - lots of shouting at me, kicking the car seat, poohed and peed in his room - just ghastly. One more day and then we have our holiday - I can't wait! Even though we are self-catering and I'll be doing all the same stuff, I'll be doing it somewhere else and I can't wait!

Badvoc · 28/02/2013 19:41

What a brave boy!
Perhaps today was a reaction to yesterday?
Have a wonderful holiday x

PrinceRogersNelson · 28/02/2013 19:55

Being somewhere else is great.

Enjoy your holiday :)

Beautifulpossum · 28/02/2013 23:07

Badvoc- Sorry to hear about your Great Aunt Sad

Really glad to hear so much TH progress. DH was ill for the whole of half term and I'm exhausted- now DC are both ill too. Sure its just because he's not feeling well but had all the "wanting to kill himself stuff" from DS last night. Makes me so sad. Someone said to me a mum is only as happy as her unhappiest child- very true. He is sad that he can't read very well and started to get upset that DD can. So hard as want to encourage DD without making DS feel bad. Hoping for a better week next week. Off to Robin on 10th so that is something to look forward to.

shoppingbagsundereyes · 01/03/2013 07:03

Sorry to hear you've had bad days possum and Ruggles. Hope this weekend will be brighter.
Good news here- ds has been doing hemi opk for just two weeks. First few days he couldn't even spell his own name while staring at the screen. This morning he's done his entire spelling test list while concentrating - words like cause, caught, pause! Really amazed.
Parents' eve tues so I'm hoping his teacher will have noticed an improvement in concentration too
