Oo I have a cheerful story with a happy ending.
Dd was on the toilet the other day (great opening line huh) when she started to yell that there was something crawling across the floor. Thinking spider I asked dh to go and put it outside but it wasn't a spider it was a ............................ huge, rare breed bumblebee (cuckoo summat bee) and it wasn't at all well.
So, I did what I always do, being stuck on the sofa 24/7 at the moment and googled. We made up a solution of honey and water for it and put it in a small tupperware type pot with holes in the lid. Apparently, if their abdominal temperature drops below 30 degrees, particularly if caught in a rainstorm, they can become very ill and can't fly until they are warmed up.
Amazingly he crawled over to the honey solution and we were able to watch his little tongue (well bee tongue thing) sucking it up. Fascinating to watch. Then the daft creature managed to fall into the honey solution and get himself all gummed up, so even when he was warm he couldn't fly.
So, we transferred him into yet another pot, with some leaves for company and left him to clean himself up overnight, a tad fearful we might have one dead bee in the morning.
But no .... this morning dh got up to find our little (well he was actually blooming huge) bee friend buzzing away ready for take-off. Took him outside and he flew straight off, right over the house.
So, the Moose household has done it's bit for the save the bees campaign and is feeling all eco and worthy this evening.
