oh dear

bochead · 25/05/2012 07:32

hollow cackle

You'll have perfected the art of fingers in ears, and singing I'm not listed by the end of the 1st week Wink Pokemon is not cheap.

At least I occasionally get a break so DS can indulge his alternate obsession - BUGS (wierd mini-beasties keep finding their way into my home at present - thank god the dog and cat are dedicated exterminators of all things creepy crawly). This is a much cheaper interest.

Iceflower · 25/05/2012 07:34

....it has been two years of the P word in my house.

Good luck Grin

andperseand · 25/05/2012 07:43

Oh dear, be prepared, eventually you will be set tests from the Pokedex and be expected to know lots and lots of interesting facts about who evolves into who Grin.

My DS even went through a phase where he actually cried because he wanted to live in the Pokemon world and he knew it could never be real. It did mean we could go on holiday to a place called Les Hirondelles (swallows) though because there is a Pokemon called Taylo which is a swallow - so that was ok!!!!

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 25/05/2012 08:05

You have all felt my pain Grin

So far he's had 2 packs from the shop, 50 from ebay and 100 from the charity shop. All in 3 weeks....and he had the cheek to tell me that we hadn't bought him any for ages Grin

Oh dear!! What more can i saySadGrin

We had a mild dose of Pokemon before Christmas but I managed to avoid most of that as dd discovered (I pointed her over) that the two eldest used to like them when they were younger so she shared that interest with them Grin I am currently suffering Littlest Pet Shop which is so boring as I am expected to suggest names and choose which is the cutest between loads of plastic pastel figures. They are at least cheap in home bargains and B&M though Smile

moosemama · 25/05/2012 10:23

Grin We've had that one for a couple of years now Ben. Ds is currently putting together a photostory and narration on everything he knows about Pokemon - it's going to be a looooong photostory! Grin

Dh let him go on the Pokemon website this morning in return for having his suncream on and he's now discovered he can watch all the series from the first one right through the current one on there - somebody save me! Shock Grin

I currently have blooming Pokemon cards on every available surface in my living room that I am not allowed to touch because the boys are mid-game. I did in fact dare to put them away once - never again!

Even dd (3) has been thoroughly brainwashed now - she came up to dh and I the other lunchtime and out of the blue said 'dd the (dd's nickname) Pokemon - the evolved form of Mummymon'. Hmm Grin

Having just completed reading the Star Wars Visual Dictionary for the umpteenth time, he is currently re-reading his Pokedex, which is equally as big and just as brain numbing.

I think it's my fault actually, as I used to watch the animated series when I was pregnant with him and stuck on the sofa with severe SPD. Blush I even had a Jigglypuff belt pouch for my dog training treats! [double blush]

tabulahrasa · 25/05/2012 10:35

We never had Ben 10, we went straight from Thomas to Pokemon...then we got yu gi oh, now he's 16 and he's moved on to warhammer. With the painting and glueing and tape measuring battles - I kind of miss Pokemon at least I sort of understood them, lol.

Niceweather · 25/05/2012 10:35

Beware of YuGiOh cards!!!

All programmes can also be seen on You Tube!

devilinside · 25/05/2012 10:48

Ours is Beastquest books, (I have to read them to him). Unfortunately, he enters his classroom via the school library, cue Beastquest books being lined up on the carpet every morning!

Moshi monsters is still simmering away in the background.

insanityscratching · 25/05/2012 10:51

Ds did YuGiOh we have a crate full upstairs. Older ds pointed out that some were incredibly rare and fetching £60 each on ebay. If I thought he wouldn't notice I'd sell the rare ones and fund a holiday but even though he hasn't bothered with them for about seven years he'll have every one committed to memory.

moosemama · 25/05/2012 11:08

devilinside, we've done Beastquest as well. He has to have every new series that comes out and was devastated when he had read all the ones they had in the school library. He also likes all the 'specials' that come out and more recently has tried the ones where you choose what happens next.

He flatly refused to accept that there was more than one author writing to a formula until he had to do a school project on his favourite author and read it himself online. Now he will grudgingly accept there are a team of writers - but not that the books are formulaic. Grin

I've been trying unsuccessfully to shift him onto a series that's less prolific.

coff33pot · 25/05/2012 11:36

Ben 10 has faded into the distance thank goodness! However I am still having to listen to renactments of Harry P, Pirates of the Carribean (first one), and regular games of moshi monster cards doh!

alison222 · 25/05/2012 11:51

Just wait until he has been on the Pokemon website and discovered that there are Pokemon tournaments held in coffee shops and the like at the weekends. that will lead to some interesting conversations about why you do not want to go to them..[evil Grin emotion]

moosemama · 25/05/2012 12:16

Oh and the Pokemon championships we've had lots of interesting discussions about those. Unfortunately, we somehow managed to just miss the UK Championship this year - despite it being not a million miles away from us. Wink

alison222 · 25/05/2012 12:21

Blimey, maybe we need to get our children together to indulge their obsession while we slope off to drink Wine
Wink

andperseand · 25/05/2012 12:46

.... there is a town not too far from us where that is exactly what happens - there is a Pokemon and Yu-gi-oh club which meets once a week. The kids indulge in their passion (mostly on a DS) and we adults drink coffee and eat cake. Sadly no Wine but it works well, and never let anyone tell you kids cannot interact while on their DSs - it is fascinating to watch.

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 25/05/2012 12:47

I am so scared of all of these obsessions looming - I'm not sure my pocket can cope!

I think we'll get him a Pokedex. He loves his Marvel Encyclopaedia and the Bakugan Ultimate Handbook. I on the other hand can't bear it :)

POKEMON CHAMPIONSHIPS OMG Save me!!! Grin

Ds also has an embryonic obsession developing around fossils and crystals. I think I prefer that one, but knowing ds1, it has the potential to get very expensive.

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 25/05/2012 12:51

At least you can't collect trees and then have paddies when you forgot to take them out of your tray to put them in your bag!

OP posts:
UnCharteredromaeosaur · 25/05/2012 12:53

yup, i shall encourage this as far as possible

bochead · 25/05/2012 12:59

Anyone want some stick insects?

Eggs off the insectlore site & can be kept in old sweet shop jars. Much, much cheaper than pokemon she thinks and youtube videos can also be created Wink Could also be released in the offices of unhelpful caring carrots when required? (not that this ever crossed my mind during this week's events you all understand GrinWink

DS doesn't know anyone to share his bug luv with so at the moment it remains a lonely solitary pursuit unlike the demonic pokemon.

ThoughtBen10WasBadPokemonOMG · 25/05/2012 12:59

Erm, I'll pass thanks Boc
