So DS hates Vegepa - are there any good alternatives?

I dont think he likes the taste because I have even tried snipping them open and putting the white stuff into a drink, but he refused that too.

He is drinking the Floradix and eating his multivitamin (which is more like a jelly sweet). But I cant get him to eat these for love nor money.

I can't help you really but I've always done eyeQ with the DD's (DD2 has sn).

I changed the girls to vegepa after reading about it on here and they absolutely hate it as well. I managed 1 day where they tried it and that's it. We're back onto eyeQ again, although I'm not sure it's the best.

Watching this thread with interest.

Hi, are you using the vegepa orange flavour chewables? I used to snip open the other ordinary vegepa capsules but dd hates the strong fishy taste but loves the orange flavoured ones-are they the ones u are trying already?
Out of interest which chewable multivits are u using? Dd has the floradix salyndium and multivit at moment but they are quite expensive. I'm thinking of changing the multivit.

Hi, I am interested in answers to this because DS2 can't eat oranges ( or, as I discovered after trying him on Vegepa) orange oil. Have got him on cod liver oil atm which he's always done well on, but would like to try something with a better EPA:DHA ratio.

mumgoingcrazy · 09/05/2012 13:35

Yes we have the orange chewables, the DD's hate them.

The eyeQ has a high EPA:DHA ratio, but vegepa is supposed to be just EPA, I havn't yet found another without DHA yet (that tastes ok anyway)

mebaasmum · 09/05/2012 15:01

I think morepa do a strawberry one, still has some dha but not much. there is eskimo tutti fruit too but that's vile !!!

HolyCalamityJane · 09/05/2012 15:18

I binned the vegepa as it just kind of floated in DD's little floradix cocktail. I now use the Barleans ultra EPA 2 capsules have 1075mg of EPA which is considerably more than the vegepa. These are large big horse pellet type capsules but are lemonade flavour. I mix them in with the 2 floradix liquids and a little juice and DD necks it and says it tastes lovely.

Voidka also in reply to your previous breakfast ideas post if you go on a recipe site called Allrecipes uk there are hundreds of recipes ideas.

Thanks Holy - do the Barleans have to be opened or do they dissolve?

Voidka- which 'multivitamin (which is more like a jelly sweet)' do you use please? :)

Niceweather · 09/05/2012 17:00

Try empyting the capsule into a dollop of tomato ketchup - works for us!

Voidka · 09/05/2012 17:08

I use Haliborange immune softies.

Tomato Ketchup wont work for us, but thanks for the suggestion :)

we use the eskimo3 fish oil (has more epa than dha). it is liquid and they do some fruity kids version. we use the adult oil oil for DD which tasts of lemon and is not very fishy. we mix it into orange juice.

we also tried the barleans but they are too fishy for DD to hide it in food.

Ben10NeverAgain · 09/05/2012 17:55

HCJ Do you have a link for the Barleans? I have tried to google but failed :)

sphil · 09/05/2012 18:15

I've just found it by putting Barleans Ultra EPA Uk into the search box. Seems to be around £18.50- £19.50 for 60, so a month's worth.

Ben10NeverAgain · 09/05/2012 18:19

Ouch. That's a bit pricey at the moment. Need to go back to work first :) Thanks. I'll have to stick to the Haliborange myself.

HolyCalamityJane · 09/05/2012 21:54

Hello everyone the capsules are liquid inside so we just pierce them and squeeze the liquid in. I just googled them on amazon to find them after Blueshark recommended on here they appealed to me because of the potency of them and because I had been reading the brain food plan I kind of wanted to see if it was correct that maybe some of our children's brains hadn't developed at the same rate so I just wanted to kick start things.

All I can say is my DD is such adifferent girl I don't know if it has anything to do with the supplements and healthy diet maybe it is a co-incidence but this time 4 months ago we were going to put her on medication and into a special school so I definitely think there is something to it. She is still in mainstream doing well behaviour wise (concentration still a bit of an issue) and no to medication!!

Ben10NeverAgain · 10/05/2012 06:51

I'm going to try them think. How quickly did you see the difference HCJ? So I need Floradix and Barleans and that gives him everything he needs?

Voidka · 10/05/2012 07:04

I think its also recommended you give a multi-vitamin that contains vitamin B6 and B12 too Ben

Ben10NeverAgain · 10/05/2012 07:12

I've got to say that I'm completely confused by all the different vitamins and minerals, how much to take of which etc. I've lurked on the TH thread and still confused as I know that DS will reject so many of them by taste. He has Haliborange multivitamin fruit softies which have B6 and B12. However are the RDAs of these actually any good for what we are trying to do for our children 1.4mg and 2.5mg (the m for the 2nd one is a squiggle not an m). It says 100% of the RDAs for both of these.I don't want to OD him on anything...

HolyCalamityJane · 10/05/2012 10:33

I have tried most things Ben it was a bit of trial and error really but am now happy with what we are on. We do the Floradix Kindervital ( multivitamin) Its 20 ml of that a day and Floradix saludynam ( that's zinc magnesium and calcium) 20 ml of that and I only do 1 of the Barleans capsules so a tub lasts 2months. I give DD 10 ml of both in the morning with the Omega and then 10 ml of both in the afternoon. She started on this in January and I saw a change in a couple of weeks. I have really limited sweets and sugar with her too. All I would say if you can give it a go nothing ventured and all that. TBH initially I thought what a load of nonsense but it has really made such a difference so much so that DD's teacher pulled me aside once and asked "I take it DD is now on medication"Grin Anyway sorry if I sound a bit preachyBlush

HolyCalamityJane · 10/05/2012 10:35

Oh and you won't be giving him too much no chance of OD. Smile

mrsbaffled · 10/05/2012 10:37

We use the EyeQ oil. I mix it up really quickly into the floradixes, add a splash of fruit juice and get him to down it before it separates :)

Ben10NeverAgain · 10/05/2012 10:51

Don't sound preachy to me - more a convert.

I'm 35 and only just started taking vitamins after surgery. None of my family ever have - now we all are Grin.

You promise it tastes nice now? I'll send a roaring boy at you if it doesn't Grin

Ben10NeverAgain · 10/05/2012 11:15

Fruity or original Kindervital HolyCalamity?
