I think that was part of the problem in Kent too

Becaroooo · 11/04/2012 17:03

Derbyshire.

Dire.

londongirl4 · 11/04/2012 17:22

very surprised Wandsworth's not already been mentioned....Hmm

appropriatelyemployed · 11/04/2012 17:26

They are not. The law is very clear on that. Has this been said to you by the SEN team or is it assumption?

StarlightMcEggsie · 11/04/2012 17:30

It will mean they shouldn't get a statement but it doesn't mean they won't get a place in a SALT unit particularly.

DameHermione · 11/04/2012 17:34

i'm in wiltshire too.

it's shit.

The funding pathways are very different and there has been tons of stuff written on this.

The LA should not, in any event, be saying certain children cannot be funded because there are too many of any kind of other children be it children with ASD, different language or whatever. That is no justification.

But then if it inflames passions against another group, it probably makes a nice excuse

Derbyshire is appalling. Early years is the exception really and then it's downhill all the way. Only one ASD specialist school but only for low functioning and SLD.
LA is incompetent and immoral, Autism Outreach laughable, SALT only one in the whole county specialising in ASD, community SALT service poor, OT service non existent oh and to top it all SS don't consider autism a disability so support is non existent.

Voidka · 11/04/2012 18:18

Glad you posted that Insanity - we were contemplating moving out of Nottinghamshire to Buxton which is nearer DH's work.

insanityscratching · 11/04/2012 18:28

Voidka ironically ds goes to an independent specialist school in Nottingham because there is nothing in Derbyshire. Derbyshire LA always boasts that they are far better than Nottingham because they issue many many more statements but the statements they issue aren't worth the paper they are written on (you will end up at Tribunal) and in the case of ASD schools don't have the knowledge and experience and aren't going to get anything worthwhile from the pathetic Autism Outreach service either.

keepingupwiththejoneses · 11/04/2012 18:44

Wassup, I live in Sefton and I know how bad lancs is. We have quite a few kids come to schools here as the provision is quite good. We border so no a huge issue for transport. PM my and let me know if it is possible for you I will let you know what is available here, by law an LA or school can not refuse a child a place if there is one available, even if in a different LA.

SallyBear · 11/04/2012 18:52

I've just gone through the lists and there doesn't seem to be any mention of; Beds, Bucks, Oxon, Northants, Leics and Milton Keynes. Phew!!

wasuup3000 · 11/04/2012 18:53

Thanks Keeping have pm'd you.

voidka We moved from Derbyshire it was so dreadful.

StarlightMcEggsie · 11/04/2012 20:43

This is ridiculous! Isn't the CoP supposed to be a National Code?

Until there is a National strategy/policy that is enforced there is simple going to be a race to the bottom as parents chase round the country hoping to be the last ones let into the half decent onces before the ladder is pulled up and aggressive legal teams hired to stop said LAs from becoming national suppliers.

insanityscratching · 11/04/2012 20:49

Derbyshire have got worse in the last five years definitely. Becaroo where were you? Did you ever have the pleasure of Autism Outreach or the SSSEN service? What about CAMHS (seriously shit)? Not surprised you moved tbh we have fared better only because we got dx and statement in place when they were three because of a good Early Years service.

Becaroooo · 11/04/2012 20:58

Tbh I found it dire right from the EYFS.

I was in Erewash.

Just so awful.

We could, but LAs will use it to in reverse to judge whether they are doing enough to push SEN families out!

Although there are a substantial no of staff who's existence is dependent on us staying. Just not the expensive ones I guess, and certainly not the out of county or ABA ones.

insanityscratching · 11/04/2012 21:19

I'm more north east so I wonder if even Early Years services depend on the team involved? Ds was pre CAMHS and Surestart and with dd managed to avoid CAMHS and Surestart. They both had the same Early Years teacher who was brilliant from the beginning although she has left now.
