I have to tell you all about DD1's new house

It's so easy to always post about the negative stuff.

In July 2011 the LA Housing OT assessed our current rental house, and deemed it unsuitable for DD1. DD1 was having a particularly bad day Grin She got us moved to Band 2 on the register.

In February 2012 a house came up in our village, so I bid on it. We were offered it!!!

So, with a few dramas (Wallpaper turned out to be the only thing holding the plaster on the wall Shock) we can finally start decorating it and move in during the Easter break Smile

We are so lucky. The house has 3 bedrooms, but downstairs there is a lounge, dining room (which will be a playroom) and a large space at the bottom of the stairs creating effectively a third room downstairs. The house has it's own driveway, a garage and a huge garden.

DD1 only ever talks about being a farmer. So we're going to get some chickens and have a veg patch Grin

Justa, if you're reading this, thank you for your support with the housing issue. I can't quite believe that we have a 'dream house'. Somebody knew exactly what we needed Wink

So far I've got Kiev, Nugget, Korma, Fajita, Samosa, Dipper, Wonton, Tikka. Must be some that aren't food related?

Lougle · 29/03/2012 22:43

EllenJane, I have to tell you this:

One day we were at a park and there were some bullocks in the field. DD1 (6.3) went to look at them, but they were not amused. They were stamping their feet, etc. Undeterred, DD1 suddenly proclaimed: "Mum! Mum! I know what I call him. I call him Robeee'.

'Robeee' is DD1's attempt at saying 'Roast beef' Grin

I told her he might not be as pleased as she was!

Sage and onion?

StarlightDicKenzie · 30/03/2012 09:10

Lougle, I think what strikes me about your post is that your 'perfect' house sounds very modest for the size of your family and compared to what I hear other people describe as their perfect house.

I'm sure and hope though that it is indeed perfect and that your lives are much improved for it.

moosemama · 30/03/2012 12:48

My sister had a chicken called Paxo! Grin

Lougle, congratulations on your new home. Smile

I love these good news threads. Grin

bigbluebus · 30/03/2012 13:02

Thanks for sharing your good news. Hope you and your family will all be very happy in your new home.
Envy at thought of fresh eggs for breakfast and freshly harvested veg.

Star...what can I say? Easily pleased I guess Smile

Seriously, because they had prioritised us, they had suggested that we might need to look at other areas because houses in our village of the type we required (OT had said 3 bedroom 'parlour' house, ie. extra downstairs room) come up once every 5-10 years Shock.

The only 'deal breakers' for me, were that it needed to be in the village we currently live in (Mum & Dad live there, and are a huge feature in DD1's life), and it had to have 'close' parking because DD1 has no sense of danger.

I had fully expected to be housed in one of the two very large council estates in the village, with no garage, or even a driveway - just an allocated parking space. The gardens are quite small too, but I figured anything to give DD1 the indoor space she needs.

Then, when I bid on the house, we came 3rd on the list. So I thought that was that, but felt quite sanguine about it - whoever got it would be off the list, so in theory the next time a house came up in our area, the person who came 2nd would get it, then the next time, it would be ours.

So, when I got a phonecall asking for documents, then a call from the OT to discuss the property, I thought there had been a mahooosive mistake! But, it seems that for some reason, even though we were 3rd on the list, DD1's needs trumped.

Thank you all for being pleased for us Smile If you ever happen to be in the South and want an afternoon for the children to have a safe romp with dogs and chickens - let me know Grin

what wonderful news! am Grin ing

tryingtokeepintune · 30/03/2012 19:20

Congratulations. Am so pleased for you and right in time for long summer evenings too.

Am sure your Dd will have great fun with the chickens. We used to have them and Ds and Dd used to watch them eat the leftover breakfast and tea.

StarlightDicKenzie · 30/03/2012 19:41

Oh Lougle, I really don't mean that you shouldn't be happy and relieved that you got what your family needs. It's just nice to hear that you have, given how little you were asking for iyswim. Just an adequate for purpose and safe place to live.

Lougle · 30/03/2012 20:08

Oh no, Star, I totally understood you Smile

It's such simple things. Do you know this house has opening downstairs windows? The house we live in now has a big sliding door at the back of the house, a sliding window from kitchen to porch, and a window in the porch. It means that if we want any air flow in the house, we have to open the sliding door, open the kitchen window and open the porch window, then hope that somehow the breeze will find its way Grin.

Seriously, I feel totally honoured. There were 108 bids for the house we've been allocated. That's 108 families disappointed Sad

In fact, it's been a bit tricky because someone found out we'd been allocated the house when they felt it 'should' have been theirs. They have (apparently) been discussing it on Facebook. I'm glad I don't use FB.

that's great news!

My ds wants a farm too - chicken wise we've got Ms Chicken, Jolene (RIP), Freya, Snowdrop, Iris & Ivy. Then we got rabbits, then guinea pigs & a cat ... now he's after a puppy & piglets. Oh & fish, lots of fish, for his birthday!

I hope you are all very happy there :)
