Good Luck tomorrow, Lou!

Will be thinking of you. It sounds unlikely that they WILL keep your DS in, but if they do, perhaps he might be quite sleepy from having had the aneasthetic? / painkillers? When we stayed in we were right up against the cot...which did have completely let-downable sides, so with a bit of arm-ache from you, you should be able to let him get to sleep while you cuddle him. But let's hope you will be tucked up at home as usual!
Hope it goes well.

Lou, of course we want to know how you got on. And on Fri, too, when you feel well enough and have had a nice cup of tea / margarhita!

Ooh margharita, yummmm!

Thanks ladies, I've come over all emotional at the thoughtfulness of you all.

I've been trying to pave the way about tomorrow with ds this morning. Telling him we are going to the same place ds1 went to fix his broken arm and that they will mend his wonky eye while he is having a sleep. He's made sure I will stay with him, (of course I will I said) and that he can play in the huge playroom the ward has, and seems ok so far. He's a bit too young to get any more complicated I think. Got to be there at 8am, eek!

Good luck for tomorrow - not that you'll need it! I hope it all goes well and that your little boy will be allowed home asap after the op.

Oh good luck, lou and ds! Sounds as though you've handled it brilliantly, what a good way of describing the operation.

Wow! Thanks everyone, what a lot of lovely messages.

Ds is home now, and seems fine. He was really really well behaved , and only cried for a minute when one of the doctors came to look at his eye, but immediately calmed down when they drew an arrow pointing to the one they were operating on, he thought he had a tattoo, lol.

He had his op about 10, and we got home about 2.30pm. It looks a bit red obviously, but I can see it is MUCH straighter, and he doesn't seem to be in any real pain, which I am so thankful for.

Everyone at the hospital were great, especially the nurse allocated to look after him, and the anaesthetist, who promised to show ds a picture of his puppy when he went downstairs, and actually remembered, which made ds v happy. The recovery nurse was lovely too, and was cuddling ds in his arms when I got there, saying how good he had been.

I'm so relieved it is all over now, and hopefully he won't need any follow up surgery. He is going to need eyedrops for a few weeks, but that's not really any hassle, I became expert in giving those with dd1, lol.

Thanks to everyone for being so kind as to remember us.

tamum · 19/11/2003 16:58

Oh that's great news Lou, I'm so pleased. He's been a wee star by the sounds of it! Great that you can see an improvement already, too

Eulalia · 19/11/2003 18:05

Great news lou I remember my ds getting the arrow on his tummy (hernia op). I was amazed at how quickly he bounced back after.

Will he need glasses or is it not that kind of problem or too early to tell yet?

MABS · 19/11/2003 18:30

delighted Lou xx

lou33 · 19/11/2003 19:03

Thanks everyone. He's currently in his standing frame having his dinner, so he isn't too bothered by it all, it seems.

Eulalia, they have said he may need a different prescription, but I think they will talk about it morenext week at his post op check up. The squint wasn't affecting his sight too much, as he was able to alternate it, which shows he was usuing both eyes independently, but it was very noticeable, and we felt that with everything else he will be facing as he grows, we would try and make it a bit easier for him if we could. I thought he was perfect as he was, but I am extremely biased, lol.

lou33 · 19/11/2003 19:03

Fio, thanks for your message about Friday too .
