Can anyone tell me which is the best multi vitamin tablet for a child with ASD. I know that Magnesium and Zinc are the bug pluses, but DS wont have baths so epsom salts are a no-no.

I have looked on the Holland and Barrett website but its all a bit too technical for me!

I was told about behaviour balance liquid on here as i was stuggling to find the right foods to get more magnesium, zinc etc into DD
It comes in liquid form, is suitable for age 2+ and contains magnesium, zinc, Vitamins B6+12 and folic acid. I also give my DD some omega 3 oil aswell. The oil is great as its tasteless and can be put on their food. The behaviour balance liquid is black cherry flavour so its nice. It is supoosed to help with concentration and helps eye contact etc aswell (only had it a week so cannot report whether this is true yet)

I'm looking into this too. Oso I would be interested in knowing how you get on with the behavior balance as I'm debating trying it. Which Onega 3 are you using? I need something in liquid form as ds can't swallow caps.

Voidka · 08/02/2012 21:22

Is this it?

I recommend taking all 3 of these:

Omega
zinc & magnesium
multi vitamin

HolyCalamityJane · 08/02/2012 22:11

Had been giving my DD behaviour balance but wasn't sure whether it was working so I emailed tinsley house to ask for advice and was told to give DD vegepa capsules for the omega, floradix saludynam for the zinc magnesium and calcium and kinder vital for the multivitamin. DD started on all of these today I mix them in a little fruit juice and DD said it tasted lovely!Grin

HolyCalamityJane · 08/02/2012 22:14

Grin at Indigo just saw your post! If indigo says it's ok then it's ok!

IndigoBell · 08/02/2012 22:21

To clarify, as HCJ pointed out :) I'm passing on advice from Tinsley House.

Feargalthecat I am using flaxseed oil on dd for (1 teaspoon daily) from holland+barrett. I found this good as it has no taste so they don't notice it on food. I have been told on here however that there are better sources of omega3 (ill look at my old post and find out what this was) but I had already bought this at the time so decided to try it, don't know if its coincidence but feel my dd concentration, listening and eye contact has improved in a few weeks (even the childminder commented on an improvement in these things in the last fortnight) can't put it down to behaviour balance as only started this on monday but hoping this will help further. I will give it a few weeks+ill post a thread if I do find its helping :)

osospecial · 09/02/2012 10:14

Feargalthecat-hi again, I was told that flaxseed oil has no EPA in the omega which is what they need so was recommended Vegima instead, not sure if this comes in capsules/liquid etc. So this is what I'm thinking of trying next time :)

osospecial · 09/02/2012 10:21

*Vegepa (sorry Blush)

mrsbaffled · 09/02/2012 10:22

I am thinking of getting some supplements for DS. He doesn't have ASD but 'dyslexia' - am I right the above would be suitable for him too (based on the TH method).....?? I have bought the book, but not finished yet, indigo

blueShark · 09/02/2012 10:42

Ok, I still haven't found the science behind more EPA in omega and the brain improvement but I have started giving DS Some barleans ultra EPA which has over 1000mg EPA per serving rather then 556 in vegepa capsules and 224 in the vegepa chewable and the result is amazing, teacher asked if I was medicating him. She was aware of all other therapies I do, retained reflexes and speech, and had seen continuos improvement but in the last 2 weeks since on extra EPA the improvement was too steep to be true!

IndigoBell · 09/02/2012 10:57

BlueShark - Wow!

moosemama · 09/02/2012 11:51

I came across this site recently. It seems to have a lot of information and links to research and advice on omega dosage, if anyone is interested.

I'm still working my way through reading it at the moment.

Blueshark, do they taste fishy?

blueShark · 09/02/2012 14:07

The capsules are huuuuuge but I chew I tiny hole and put it in a spoon as it's liquid inside. They taste lemony.

blueShark · 09/02/2012 14:12

Published research recommends 1000-2000mg for kids with addShock

Great site mooseama, thx!

That's too much work indigo at 8 am :)

Yes, that's the one bdaonion, the beauty is DD can try next week before you buy, I did that round at indigo before I bought the osteocare chewables

osospecial · 09/02/2012 15:00

Those sound great, du think there is any harm trying them with that much EPA before dd has diagnosis? SALT thinks definite communication disorder+dd will need help at school etc but not seen the pead yet

Osospecial, noone will tell you which supplements to buy, supplementing DS was by pure research, so the choline, dmg, omega etc when he was little verbal and little eye contact and attention span. I have been taking supplements ever snce I know of myself and feel great!

blueShark · 09/02/2012 15:14
