I am so sick of appointments.....does anyone else want to wish with me for less in 2012?!

Ds has 3 appointments in the next 2 weeks, he was in hospital over Christmas plus had 2 trips to out of hours drs and 1 routine appointment with gp. He had an mri scan and a raft of blood tests in the 2 weeks before that. I am so sick of hospitals, and drs (most of whom are lovely, by the way!)

So if anyone wants to link hands and make a wish that there will be less appointments in 2013, then please do so here!Smile

I feel for you, been there, done that Smile but thankfully now dd3 is a little older the appointments aren't quite so frequent and most of her therapists see her at school now. We still have a fair few appointments but they are more routine now and no pressure leading up to them as you often have at your stage, it's not nice. Brew for you, it will get easier.

auntevil · 04/01/2012 11:20

Just PMd you Ninja having a rant about appointments! Grin
hazeyjane I feel for you - it's a pain. I'm at the point where i'm chasing appointments. GOSH have offered treatment for DS3 - as long as our local PCT confirm that they don't offer the treatment. You'd think it would be easy seeing as the PCT don't offer the treatment Confused
So can I add to less appointments - less telephone/e-mail/fax tag?

Moomoomie · 04/01/2012 11:27

I often feel I have my own chair at the hospital. With three dds all having different problems and appointments. I wonder if they do loyalty points like the supermarkets? Grin

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 04/01/2012 11:33

ah, now yes to less chasing, currently still waiting for new boots 3 months on Hmm shan't mention that long lost ot report . . . 18 months after the assessment Grin loyalty points would be great, especial if you can use them for parking charges!!

bigbluebus · 04/01/2012 11:44

DD doesn't have that many appointments now but those that she does have all seem to come at once!!!
In the next 2 weeks she has appts with Paediatrician - acute at hospital, Paediatrician - community, GP - 3 monthly check up and wheelchair clinic - and thats when she's been well!!!! Looking forward to an appointment free Feb and March!
Agree with hospital loyalty points idea - feel as though we've bought the whole car park with the amount of cash we've put in the ticket machine over the last 17 years.

hazeyjane · 04/01/2012 11:44

I'd rather change my loyalty points for wine and chocolate!

yy to the chasing up, I have been on the phone all morning trying to work out who is supposed to be referring ds for the 'urgent' videofluroscopy that was recommended by a paed several months ago.

by the way, thankyou for making me feel less alone. I was trying to arrange going round for coffee with a mum from dds school, and she looked at me so pityingly when I kept saying, 'I can't do xxx as ds has physio/hearing test/paed appointment etc etc'.

I knew you would all make me feel betterSmile

I'm having visions of us all hanging on the phone with one hand chasing appointments and MNing with the other hand - am I wrong? Grin

hazeyjane · 04/01/2012 11:54

You have to do something whilst listening to endless bloody vivaldi on hold!

yes and trying to squeeze a hot cuppa in somewhere as well!

Moomoomie · 04/01/2012 12:03

I have started parking ten minutes away from the hospital and walking, to save the parking costs. Fortunately I can do that.
Would we get extra points for having to wait hours to see the doctors too?
The hospitals could team up with the local supermarket so we can exchange for copious amounts of chocolate.

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 04/01/2012 12:15

sounds like a good plan moomoomie Grin

auntevil · 04/01/2012 14:25

Oooh, do you get a bonus number of points if they cancel your appointment due to 'no doctors'? Grin
We usually get the bus to the hospital - do I get any eco points?
I'm liking this points system Grin

Ronifromwales · 04/01/2012 14:26

less, less less, many less wishes going your way! x

TheNinjaGooseIsOnAMission · 04/01/2012 15:44

auntevil, only if they are all off on a jolly together Grin

What about when you get offered an appointment you've already had, is that extra points or less! That was this afternoons phone call Hmm

Moomoomie · 04/01/2012 15:58

I can see this points business getting very complicated! Bagsy, I don't have to coordinate it! Grin

lisad123 · 04/01/2012 17:57

I remember having 3 appointments in one day! Drives me mad. Most of the girls appointments are ok, dh sometimes takes all day and every 6 months we have to make the horrible trip to London too Hmm

lisad123 · 04/01/2012 17:58

Lol @ car parking at one point we brought a 3 month ticket as we were there so often Blush

elliejjtiny · 04/01/2012 18:14

I like your thinking Moomoonie Grin

We have eye clinic next week for ds2, paed on 24th for ds3. I also need to get hold of genetics and tell them about my most recent miscarriage because you can garauntee that the obs/gynae registrar who treated me will not have spoken to the geneticist and paed who treat ds2 and 3. The paed won't tell me what genetic mutation ds3 has in case I google it Hmm which means that I couldn't tell the obs/gynae registrar what it was and I still don't know if they did the right tests on dc4. Also ds2's blood results are still not back after 13 weeks even though they said it would be 4 weeks, then 8 weeks.

Blush sorry got a bit carried away there

hazeyjane · 04/01/2012 19:33

well one appointment out of the way this afternoon, although at that appointment, 6 further appointments were discussed (geneticist, videofluroscopy, opthamologist, hearing test another blood test and a ph probe). It's never-bloody-ending! The good thing is that this new paed could be seen at a nearer hospital, which would make life a lot easier.

I am liking the points system, I'm afraid I may have points deducted for forgetting to ask avital question at this appointment - aaaagh! I do get eco points for catching bus though.

(I'm sorry that everyone else has so many appointments, and for so many people in the family, juggling them all must be a nightmare).

If it's any consolation I do get appointment revenge every 6 months. All 3 DS are seen twice a year by gastroenterology. They were seen together the first time and the consultant requested that they be seen at different times as he found the appointments quite 'challenging' . Each time I hand their cards in I get back to back appointments Grin - so now he puts them at the end of a Friday afternoon, probably so he can go home straight afterwards! - now where's that evil grin emoticon when you need it Grin

saladsandwich · 04/01/2012 23:15

sending wishes everybodies way... i'm sik of chasing appointments/referrals.. we've got community paed tomorrow but lucky us he comes to the local clinic, childrens hospital at the end of the month, caf meeting sometime this month.... how does everyone keep up???

lisad123 · 04/01/2012 23:18

Ellie so he plans never to tell you the results? Confused

marchduck · 04/01/2012 23:21

DD has eight appointments scheduled for January. I'm very grateful that she's getting support, but it is hard to keep on top of them all. I've had to buy one of those massive calendars that I previously wouldn't have given house room to!

hazeyjane · 05/01/2012 06:35

ellie, they did a similar thing with us when they were testing ds for spinal muscular atrophy, but i heard the paed whispering it to his colleague, of course i did end up googling and we were sick with worry for weeks. but if your ds3 actually has a genetic condition cconfirmed then that is crazy!

auntevil - that is fantastic, i can imagine your consultant rushing home for a large gin!

i too have a mahoosive calendar and a desk diary, with all appointments in red pen. the thing ifind really difficult is when appointments are scheduled at school run time, meaning i have to find someone to pick up the girls, give them tea etc.
