Have to go say Goodnight to kids. May get highjacked upstairs Hmm

moosemama · 09/12/2011 20:41

I have been looking at clothes a bit - but don't have a clue what I should be wearing. Blush

Picked out a few bits online the other day, put them in my shopping basket, then decided against buying them in case I get some Christmas money and can get more for my money in the sales. Silly thing is, I know I still won't manage to buy anything even then. Am living in black jeans teamed imaginatively with black v-necks almost 24/7 these days. Blush

I still have another 10lbs to go until I hit my main target though - so maybe I'll wait until then and just wear a belt in the meantime. Grin

intothewest · 09/12/2011 21:00

TheNinjaGooseIsARoasting · 09/12/2011 21:09

evening all, just popped in to say hello before an early night, struggling to write a coherent sentence this evening. The round table have been round tonight with their santa on the back of a truck, dd3 thought it was wonderful and was waving away at him, it bought tears to my eyes, may be she'll 'get' christmas in some way this year!

iwanttogetoffnow · 09/12/2011 21:20

Just popped in to say hello and Happy Christmas to you all. Very tired tonight struggling to focus on the screen. Had a fab special needs portage christmas party and even managed a great cuddle with my friends twins Smile as hubby came along to help with my twins so I could meet other mums and chat. Luxury. Our portage lady applied to the bluebird trust to help funding for an I pad to try to help my ds to comunicate. They said......YES!!!! Result Grin. Also since haloween party ds has started dancing! Confused Bopping along to any music he hears or even the songs being sung by the other children at playschool! He has a new fave song "wind the bobbin up" he even came running across a room to me so he could join in!! song time!!!!Grin That is a first.

wigglybeezer · 09/12/2011 21:34

We discovered one of the perks of having a special needs child this week; being refered to the salaried dental service who give do not rush and are endlessly patient and helpful althought the dentist was a bit too "jolly uncle" which made ds2 suspicious -
Dentist "Who lives at your house?"
DS " I'd rather not say"

Dentist "High five!"
DS - Hard stare.

Nurse "would you like a sticker?"
DS - Hard stare and "no thank you".

DS is quite excited at the thought of trying nitrous oxide though.

auntevil · 09/12/2011 21:39

I miss the round table truck with the carols on it ninja - we don't get it on this side of town - we're too poor! Xmas Grin
Weird week this week - but had one of the best conversations with DS1's teacher. In school time - DS1 concentrates with olympic zeal. When he leaves school, he relaxes and spends the next 4 or so hours slipping between demented champagne cork and hippy zombie. His teacher caught him for a conversation after school, when his mask had slipped. She looked visibly shocked - with her chin falling further and further toward the floor. She managed to try and ask hippy zombie a couple of questions. According to him he is a queen in the school play and he wears 'nothing' as a costume (I'm seeing naked son a la lily savage) . This is apart from the fact that he had been making his costume that day Xmas Grin . His teacher ended the 'conversation' looking at me and saying - 'good luck tonight - its going to be a long one' . Woo hoo - finally they get the picture [relief emoticon]
very Xmas Envy at all of you that have done and dusted the christmas shopping, just thinking about starting mine. Just as well there's not many of us.
A big Wine to you all - that's gin for you Ninja

iwanttogetoffnow · 09/12/2011 21:41

Could someone tell me how do I find out about learning sign language? I think my 3 year old ds with ASD non-verbal may benefit and I see so many people using it? Is there a book/video?
Sorry it sounds daft but I don't know where to start?

Ineedchristmascake · 09/12/2011 22:16

Try your local children's centre for signing courses iwanttogetoff, they might run some or know where to send youXmas Smile.

unpa1dcar3r · 09/12/2011 23:16

Evening all (if anyones still up) I'm only up cos i had to do some boring homework for college blurgh.
All learning theories; humanist, behaviourist, cognitive, Androgogy (andro what!!) metacognition (hmm ok) and deep/surface learning.
thank heavens that's doen is all i can say!

Manic week, just changed youngest bed yet again thats about 9 or 10 times this week he's wet so far...drives me mental keep having to wash his bedding etc.
Still on the upside, been too busy to eat so think I've lost some weight; ordered some size 12 jeans in the sale from Joe Browns (Lurve their clothes) and waaay too big so nice to say 'er, i need to change these for a SMALLER size' [smug face on] hehe.

Smile
ihatecbeebies · 10/12/2011 00:13

Hi everyone, mind if I join you all?

I'm trying to keep my eyes open to finish off some coursework but am struggling!

ihatecbeebies · 10/12/2011 00:20

Unless you are all asleep by now that is! :)

madwomanintheattic · 10/12/2011 00:47

iwant, makaton do a dvd which is great for littlies to get started, and most slts run or have access to courses for parents.

try and buy from amazon rather than makaton direct though - can be big price difference.

Triggles · 10/12/2011 10:22

Good morning (well, it is now that I've taken some paracetamol! Grin)!!

I've missed the Friday night thread again! Eeeek!! I was out with friends last night. It's a regular Friday night thing now - we get together at a nearby friend's house and drink wine and chat and play loud music and generally just have a blast! I leave the house just after both boys are in bed, so DH has no worries about coping with them, as they are asleep, and generally sleep pretty well in the evening (it's the early morning hours they get up and create havoc!! Hmm) I was told in no uncertain terms last night that if I was not to even consider "not coming" to the Friday evening get togethers, as they know I need a break at the end of the week and they would come to my house and drag me out. Grin DH is quite happy for me to go as well (should I be suspicious of that?!?! hahaha - actually he just plays video games all evening while the boys sleep), and it is SUCH a stress-buster!!

The hangover this morning was a bit ugh... but much better now! DS2 has a birthday party (swimming) this afternoon. I'm a bit nervous as I don't know the mum of the birthday boy, but that's okay. And then grandson's birthday party tomorrow. Busy weekend!!

Hope everyone's doing well - sounds like a bit of a mixed week for all. We were just thrilled because DS2's present arrived yesterday (I won the draw for the Chedds product thread, which was a DS, so that's his Christmas present!!) so we've been taking it out of the box and grinning at it excitedly, as he will be so pleased!!

signandsingcarols · 10/12/2011 11:41

may be worth checking what your area uses, (round here it's signalong rather than makaton) and also what level you want to use it at, makaton / signalong usually used for simpler signing, (and for those in the know yes I know that's a vast simplification, but this is just a quick post....) If you are intending to use it longer term and for more complex sentences you could also look at BSL, (or SSE if you are intending to speak along side it). I would recommend Forest Books for all things sign, there are some lovely sign dictionaries with good clear drawings of kids signing, (I think the range is 'lets sign' by Cath someone....) sorry not to be more precise Blush

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 10/12/2011 12:20

Hi All

Still not posting much as so tired all the time Hmm.

Feeling sorry for myself this morning. Took DS to school Christmas fair and he was just so "him". No face-painting, temp tattoo had to covered up immediately in case anyone saw it, no father christmas grotto, didn't say please or thank you to anyone, hardly spoke or looked at anyone (these are the teachers, TAs and y6 children that were running the fair - so it's not like he didn't know them. To be he was just so different from the others. It made me sad. On top of that 1 hour of standing around at the fair and I am so absolutely shattered and sore. DH is at Old Trafford this weekend and parents are in France. I am just feeling so sorry for myself. Worried that I won't ever be able to work again and that would mean we'd lose the house. ESA is being changed so I won't be able to claim that after June and I wouldn't qualify for DLA and even if I did get LRC it is not £97 pw like ESA. Sorry guys. Just wanted to post it somewhere to get it out IYSWIM. I sat there at the school fair just wanting to cry. And now I am. While DS watches Toy Story 3 (again - watched it last night)

coff33pot · 10/12/2011 15:08

Awww Ben10 hugs :(

What do you do/did for a living? Is it something you could be self employed at? Could you maybe not start a online business of sorts. Jewlery/craft/design? Or take a book keeping course and be one of those? Its real easy (I do my own lol) There are packages you buy (I will pm you if you like) and basically it does it all for you. You do the book keeping, print it off for people to give to an accountant and thats you done. You can get a good wage if you dont mind sitting infront of computer all day x Something to think about?

Keep your chin up here is always something you can turn your hands too, maybe not straight away but one day. Keep your chin up mate x

OnTheBen10DaysofChristmas · 10/12/2011 15:35

I'm a Business Analyst for one of the big banks so while you can be a contractor, you are still expected to be in the office and travel lots. I've worked for them for 11 years and previously was a complaints handler for them. Both of the roles require lots of computer use and sitting. They are being very supportive and I can be on half pay for another 18 months but my parents are having to sub me substantially every month. It's only 12 weeks since surgery but I've been off for 13 months already.

I have no crafty skills and my maths skills are crap. My STB SIL is a book keeper and does pay roll. It is the computer stuff that is going to be hard for me as every time I sit with my arms out, ie computer, eating at the table, driving - my hand goes numb and cold.

I am going to have to give voice recognition software a go again and hope that my employer will allow it. However just getting there at the moment would be impossible. 30 minutes at least driving or 1 hour by public transport.

It all feels a bit too much to deal with at the moment. Don't get DS's assessment for ASD until March as we are away in January.

Thank you BTW x

Becaroooodolf · 10/12/2011 16:08
