I booked early check in last year to avoid the queues (ha ha...didn't work out that way) and got the 2 free bikes.
We prebooked another 3 bikes (there were 2 adults, 3 children), queued up in the prepaid queue, only to be told (after we reached the front of that queue) that we had to then queue up again for the bikes that came with the early check in alongside everybody else who hadn't pre-paid to get a bike ...yes that massive queue...
It was horrific with ds1. The fact that we had the invoice stating that we had the 2 free bikes made no difference at all to the guys giving out the bikes (who were really quite shirty about it). It made no sense at all Confused
It was a nightmare as dh then had to queue up while I waited with ds1 (who had already queued past his limits and was showing it) while getting lots of disapproving stares from other parents. It made the early check in irrelevant as we ended up waiting so long for the blooming bikes.

uniCorny · 29/11/2011 10:47

..in fact we are going again in a few weeks as well, so I will ask then if we can avoid this nightmare this time if we book the early check in

lisad123 · 29/11/2011 10:48

where you going unicorny? we are there on 12th
We dont need the bikes, the girls have islabikes and dd1 cant ride any other bike, dh has his specialist bike and i will be pushing my mum or dd2 buggy

In relation to disability discrimination, this means that they have failed to make reasonable adjustments in relation to disability which cannot be justified.

It maybe that they will argue that an adjustment necessitating the offer of a closer and more expensive chalet is not one they can reasonably be offer - perhaps on grounds of costs.

But, they should work with you to try and accomodate needs.

Look here at the Equality Act

uniCorny · 29/11/2011 15:24

we're going to to sherwood lisad
usually have a good time (apart from the bike queue Hmm) but had loads of 'looks' and even unkind comments when on holiday in Spain from British holidaymakers this Summer so am worried now...

lisad123 · 29/11/2011 16:13

Do you know what upsets me more, is people were more outraged in the summer because two families couldn't get tents next to each other!!!
Just goes to show how people view those with disabilities Sad

Never been to CP. Doubt I ever will. Sounds like the most unrelaxing holiday ever.

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 17:16

Lisad123 - as I have said on the other thread I have two children with SN and a 70 year old mother with major mobility problems. I think you are acting entitled and the reason people arnt ''OUTRAGED' is not disability discrimination but the fact that you have been offered some reasonable solutions and people just dont get why you think you should get early check in for free - what's the difference waiting in the car than the actual journey? You wont put your dogs in kennels '' cause its too late'' etc

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 29/11/2011 17:25

Rasp, I don't think that Lisad is being unreasonable tbh.

Yes there are other solutions but the one she wants will make a big difference to the quality of her holiday and the difficulties that are present for not getting what she wants are probably just a number of small irritations but that will add up.

I think she is 'entitled' to live in a tolerant world, even a generous one because ffs like is quite frankly hard enough for her.

EllenJaneisnotmyname · 29/11/2011 17:38

Raspberry, SN children is supposed to be a safe and supportive haven, and telling a helpful and respected poster that she is 'acting entitled' isn't going to win you many friends here.

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 17:41

Gloria -No shit, life's hard? life's hard for lots of people for lots of different reasons disablitys are just one of them - Lisad is asking for upgrades not just a ''levelling'' of the field. She's been offered reasonable solutions for all of her problems.

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 29/11/2011 17:44

No rasp, disabilities are not one aspect of a hard life, they are an addition to a hard life and THAT is the difference.

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 17:51

Why can't her mum wait in the car, if she has been in the car for the journey?? Why can't she put her dogs in kennels?

Let me put it in a more positive way then. The respected poster is not making her life any easier by not looking at her own attitude.

GloriaTheHighlyFlavouredLady · 29/11/2011 17:55

Kennels are booked. Don't know why her poorly mum can't sit in the car for hours. Only the OP will know why that is not practical, but even I can see that it is an unpleasant way to start your holiday unlike others who can walk around/change the scenery/have a picnic etc.

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 17:59

Put her in the wheel chair ????

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 18:01

push her round while they wait?

lisad123 · 29/11/2011 20:42

Thank you for your lovely suggestions. As I pointed out the dog kennels are full, mum cant be left to sit in a car of she's having a fit, she needs to be laid down and how do you suggest I push dd2 buggy, keep hold of dd1, push my mum, hold 2 dogs, while dad balances on his stick and all of this while outside because dogs aren't allowed inside areas??

It's sad that this thread has been started when you were told by many YABU.

I too have disabilities, my son has ASD. I do not expect to get privileges because of this, it's just great when we are helped.

You are making companies want to help the disabled less rather than more by expecting special treatment

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 20:58

lisad123 - I dont want to be mean but please - every dog kennel every where is booked ? What happens if your Mum has a fit in the car on the way there - going to lie her on the side of the road?

raspberryroop · 29/11/2011 21:04

And even if your husband is with you - with the above situation and your hands full and your DH pushing your Mum how do you intend to deal with 2 dogs in a responsible manner around other hoilday makers?

tocha · 29/11/2011 21:06

I don't entirely understand CP's arrangements, but it does seem a particularly unfortunate combination of circumstances, that Lisa123's mother's health has deteriorated so much after the initial booking, and Lisa123 needs to juggle her mother's health needs with those of her own DDs with SN and with the dogs on top. I hope you manage to come to some suitable compromise with CP.

lisad123 · 29/11/2011 21:14

angelswings if you look at the time it was started it was before i got many answers on the AIBU thread.

Raspberry, there is only certain kennels I will leave my dog with, I dont think thats unreasonable to look after my pet.
And yes if she starts having a fit, I would guess we will have to stop at side of road and if it continues, lay her at side of road ect.

As for how we will manage the rest of the holiday, I dont plan to have my dog with me at same time as everyone else. The dogs are walked first thing, after lunch and dinner and sometimes inbetween.

OP posts:
Angelswings · 29/11/2011 21:18

Apologies lisad, I do see that they were started at the same time.

GenerationGap · 30/11/2011 01:28

Sounds like a bloody nightmare not a holiday why bother at all?

GenerationGap · 30/11/2011 01:30

I wouldn't entertain CP as a 'holiday resort' with anyone let alone ageing parents! It's Butlins for the middle classes
