Was recommended this site by a friend

I am Liz mum to two boys aged 4yrs and 15mths. My four year old was recently diagnosed with ASD though we've suspected this for a couple of years. He struggles with social situations and has a language delay of about 1 yr but continues to progress all the while. He will start mainstream school after Easter. I wouldn't change him for the world but being his mummy is hard sometimes!
My 15mth old appears NT but who knows!

Looking forward to chatting and getting to know people on here

Hi Liz, welcome to MN and especially the SN board. Does your DS get any extra support at school? Sounds like he's doing well.

anniebear · 03/01/2006 19:56

Hiya and welcome

You will get loads of advice and support here

getbakainyourjimjams · 03/01/2006 19:57

HI welcome I have ds1 - 6 years old - ASD (attends special school), ds2 - 4 in 2 weeks - NT and ds3 one tomorrow who is hopefully OK.

itllbelonelythisdavros · 03/01/2006 20:06

Wow Jimjams, DS3 already 1 year old!!! Congrats and Happy Birthday to him.

Forgot to say Liz, that I have a 10 year old boy with ASD and a 2.9yr old girl who seems VERY NT!

getbakainyourjimjams · 03/01/2006 20:07

I know- can't believe it. I hope to god he is NT because we have problems if he is autistic (very strong willed!)

Welcome

Hi LizLocket, welcome, MN is a great website and SN section is a great section, i hope you get as much out of it as many, many others do.

My eldest DD is 4 yrs old and she has Down's syndrome.

I've just recently had another girl, 19 Dec, and she appears to be NT.

coppertop · 03/01/2006 21:16

Welcome to mumsnet and the SN board, Liz.

My ds1 is 5.5yrs old and has ASD. He goes to a mainstream school. Ds2 is almost 3yrs old and has a provisional diagnosis of ASD.

anniebear · 03/01/2006 21:19

Don't know why CT, But I didnt realise it was both of your sons with ASD, just thought it was the younger one

I obviously don't take much in!!!

coppertop · 03/01/2006 21:24

It's probably because I'm always on here moaning about ds2. Ds1 is a lot easier these days (touchwood!). He still has problems when his routine is changed too much and with some of the sensory stuff but compared to ds2 he's positively angelic.

LizLocket · 03/01/2006 21:37

Thanks for the welcome

Fingers crossed but we seem lucky with the school so far. My son gets 3 hours additional support as his day nursery each day and the school are planning to continue this and are employing a TA for 15hrs/wk for him. School seems a really daunting prospect at the moment, really not sure how he'll cope but the school seem fairly clued up and we are currently getting help from the Early Yrs Intervention Service to help his transition too

The EYIS were a brilliant help when ds1 was transferring to school. They arranged meetings to talk through any problems I thought ds1 might have at school, and helped arrange for ds1 to have extra visits to the school. They made the whole process so much easier.

Welcome to you too, Debby. I hope you'll soon be posting away on here and feeling as though you can't remember how you used to manage before finding mumsnet.

hello to liz and debby from a lurker called emma.
My 3 y/o is ASD, barely verbal and uses makaton signs and symbols quite well, if he's in the mood for it.

Saker · 04/01/2006 09:50

Hello Debbie and Liz & welcome

I have two children, one NT 6-year old, and one SN 4-year old. He doesn't have a diagnosis but has a lot of dyspraxic type symptons plus speech and language difficulties.

macwoozy · 04/01/2006 10:16

Hello Debbie and Liz, welcome to Mumsnet. I have a 5 year old ds (6 in a few months) who has ASD. He's currently in mainstream with 1:1 support. I hope you hang around as this is a great place for advice and support.
