A lady in the supermarket made a comment about ds hair today and she is not the first .He is the only family member that has coarse wirey hair and the only family member with autism.
It just got me wondering if anybody elses asd children have the coarse hair because the autism outreach lady mentioned "many of my clients have the same hair type".could there be something in my theory or have i had too llittle sleep Blush

My son has ASD and has lovely fine dark blonde hair, his uncle has autism and is the only one in his family with dark coarse wirey hair and until DS, was the only one in the family with autism.

My partners DD has Rett Syndrome and when I was researching more about the syndrome I noticed that every girl I'd seen online with the syndrome had brown hair, brown eyes and sallow skin just like his DD, I thought how has no one picked up on this it must be really significant! Then I seen a girl with blonde hair, blue eyes and fair skin and that was my theory out the window Blush.

darn it wilson thats what is missing the oil therapy! I knew I should have come to you instead of forking out for cowboy hairdressers Grin

DS1 used to be quite handsome until he grew adult teeth with a gap between them and got his glasses, which he lets slide down his nose. He screws up his face to peer over them and definitely looks far more scary than angelic!

The idea of him as a peaceful, mystical soul is quite laughable. From this website:
Advocates for love and peace
forgiving nature
sensitive, warm and caring
extremely connected to animals and nature. Are often very interested in rocks, crystals, and stones.
highly empathic and sensitive.
forgiving and generous to others.
love attention.
Dislike fighting or refuse to keep an argument going very long.

All I can say about DS1 is don't ever piss him off because he will never forget and will never let you forget. Specially if you're an insect.:o

moosemama · 14/10/2011 19:45

Ouryve, ds1 is the same. He looks so angelic until he opens his mouth to reveal two enormous top front teeth which have apparently decided to head in opposite directions to each other (he gets them from his Dad Hmm). They are also a dark yellowy colour rather than the lovely pearly white of baby teeth.

In fact, you have reminded me, I really must book him a dentist's appointment, although how on earth she's going to be able to actually do anything about them, without him letting her put her fingers in his mouth is beyond me!

From that list I would say ds1:

An advocate for love and peace, as long as it doesn't inconvenience him and/or no-one breaks any of his rules in the process.

Is probably the most unforgiven person I have ever met!

Is connected to nature, as long as it involves bringing home piles of sticks, stones, acorns and other random byproduct of 'nature'.

Is connected to animals as long as they are of the 'orrible insecty variety, whereby he appoints himself their protector and will fight any child (or adult) who would dare to do them harm (although to be fair he is a vehement vegetarian too and can't stand anything to do with animal cruelty, yet strangely fails to notice we have two pet dogs Hmm).

Is obsessed with rocks, crystals and stones, which gives him another excuse to haul home various stones, as apparently they are all interesting minerals. Hmm

Empathic and sensitive - er .... NO!

Forgiving and generous to others - erm, er ..... NO!

Loves attention - oh yes - and really resents anyone else getting any!

Takes fighting and arguing to olympic levels and can keep an argument going for, well .... indefinitely really.

coff33pot · 14/10/2011 20:20

extremely connected to animals and nature. Are often very interested in rocks, crystals, and stones.

That is about the only one I can apply to DS.

Loves all animals. Excellent tiger impression Hmm has 3 beach buckets with stones in and various twigs for swords/wands/drumsticks and is so close to nature he wont keep his pants on Grin

moosemama · 14/10/2011 21:34

Grin we have the buckets full of shells, stones, twigs etc as well. It always makes me laugh when the style people on MN go on about people's houses having 'twigs and pebbly shit' in them and how its so naff - not sure they're talking about the same sort of twigs and pebbly shit though! Grin

My bay window ledge is currently carpeted with a variety of 'interesting autumnal leaves' and I found three conkers and an acorn under his pillow when I was changing his bedclothes today. Grin

I always seem to find a variety of nature related items in the tumble drier as well - not to mention blu-tack (his teachers give it to him for fiddle toys). I really should learn to check his pockets more thoroughly.

WilsonFrickett · 15/10/2011 09:43

I handed the postoffice man a bundle of maple leaves instead of the fiver I thought was in my pocket Blush he was quite sweet about it actually.

coff33pot · 15/10/2011 12:35

hahahaha! how much value does a maple leaf have nowadays? Grin

Well at the moment I have 6 rocks on my computer desk all from DS with 3 with his initials painted/drawn on them 1 with the word peas as those are his favourite and 1 with sparky (meaning sparkly) because it is and one with cold because that is how it feels. It started off as one as a gift from school as a paperweight and progressed from there to the garden rockery!!! Grin

wigglybeezer · 15/10/2011 16:08

Oh great my bi-monthly opportunity to boast about the loveliness of DS2 and his straight silky auburn hair!

Mind you his looks declined for a bit with the big adult teeth but he is starting to grow into them again and so, as long as he escapes acne I have hopes for his looks helping him find a girlfriend eventually (not for a long time Grin).

WilsonFrickett · 15/10/2011 18:05

coff I now have an image of your desk as looking like something out of the Flintstones! Grin

wiggly I hate those adult teeth too! They are gigantic and he has a gap Grin

bialystockandbloom · 15/10/2011 20:10

Ha ha we have the 'pebbly shit' too. Conkers and twigs current favourites. The 10-minute walk home from school is generally taking 40 minutes as there are several horse chestnut trees en route.

Also the obsession with insects. We have an old butler sink in the garden full of weeds which I am too lazy to do anything about in which is a colony of spiders . Ds joyfully ran into the house during our ABA workshop yesterday showing us all his 'pets' - had 5 or 6 spiders crawling up his arms Shock

moosemama · 15/10/2011 20:30

Ooo that's just made me go all itchy bialy! Shock

bialystockandbloom · 15/10/2011 20:37

I know, and they weren't that little either - each one probably easily bigger than a 50p piece. Yuk.

moosemama · 15/10/2011 20:45
Shock

We've had loads of them in the house recently and they've all been huge. I've been trying to persuade ds1 that they only end up in the house by accident and they prefer it outside, but he's not convinced. Hmm

We had a massive great hairy one in the middle of the living room floor last night. I usually put them outside myself, but that one had to languish under a soup bowl for an hour until dh got home, as it was just too darned big, hairy and frankly scary for me to handle. Fortunately ds1 was upstairs on his nintendo ds at the time.

Mind you, dd sat next to it and guarded it the whole time - 'to keep it safe Mummy' - so she's another 'insect protector' in the making by the looks of it! Grin

coff33pot · 15/10/2011 21:17

OMG NO! Shock

Thankfully DS is not bug minded only snails and slugs and garden worms (had a few worms in the house under his pillow!

I hate creepy crawlies and have a huge phobia. If there is one in a room the door is shut and the room doesnt exist till DH gets it. I even put towels under the door.

Marne · 15/10/2011 21:17

Both my dd's are on the spectrum, dd1 has straight hair (but thick) and dd2 has wavey hair.

bialystockandbloom · 15/10/2011 21:43

Soup bowl Shock

And worms under pillows! Shock

WilsonFrickett · 15/10/2011 22:19

I'd been feeling bad that DH had passed his spider hatred onto DS but from the sounds of things all we've done is redressed the insect protector balance...

coff33pot · 15/10/2011 22:24

Trust me its all cool Bialy as worms dont run! Grin

Works out fine here wilson. Creepies (cant even say the word) live outside, catch flies which is excellent and are extremely grumpy creepies if they are inside (gets a headache with dh foot)

moosemama · 15/10/2011 22:24

Grin I did wash it thoroughly afterwards bialy! The breakfast bowls were too small to contain its legs.

Coff33, worms under his pillow! I am now incredibly grateful to have only found conkers and acorns under ds1's.

coff33pot · 15/10/2011 22:27

moose there used to be snails but ds got upset when he woke up to find their houses had been demolished due to him hugging them at night ugh!!!

moosemama · 15/10/2011 22:59

Grin Oh Coff33, I love hearing all these stories about your ds, he sounds great! Grin
