I sent the forms off last week, anyone know how long it takes them to make a decision?

DS's application took about 10 weeks, dd1 took about 4 weeks, it depends on if they have another info, and how busy they are.

sparklymieow · 10/12/2005 15:21

have enough info.

snowfalls · 10/12/2005 15:27

My Hv checked it through for me, and added to it, so hopefully I wont have any setbacks.

It really seems to vary. The recorded message on the helpline says that claims usually take up to 8 weeks. My ds1's application took only 2-3 weeks. My ds2's application took 4-5mths but the staff I spoke to admitted that this was an exceptionally long time. You shouldn't miss out though as the money is usually backdated to either the date they received the claim form or the date you requested the forms. Ds2's claim was finalised in October and the payments were backdated to April.

snowfalls · 10/12/2005 17:00

Yes, mine (if I get it) will be backdated to 17th Nov. God, how complicated are those forms.

dd2 1st application took under 4 weeks. i am hoping to get her fills in by the middle of this week (reapplication and moblity application tyhis time) and hearasap. am also hoping against the odds that we get mobility (high rate only as she is 3) as we need a 7 seater now and to change peters mobility vechile will be more hassle than its worth (plus he'll need to be out to sign the forms, and thats unlikely to happen for ages).

I'd like to know who makes the decisions as to who qualifies for DLA. We were turned down recently, although dd is profoundly deaf and clearly entitled to it. We know people whose children are severely deaf (ie not as deaf as dd) who get middle rate, so I really have no idea how they work it out. We are now appealing, with the support of our teacher for the deaf, and the National Deaf Children's Society. Cannot believe we may have to go to a tribunal for this - I was so upset when we got the letter - compounded because I have recently decided to stop work in a couple of months to give dd the one-to-one attention she needs to help develop her speech and language, and we really need the money. Sorry for the rant, but for a child who has a clear diagnosis and disability the process should not be so complicated and stressful.

stringbean, please don't get too downhearted. I felt the same way as you do now when I got turned down for DLA for my ds. My ds's paed told me to apply for DLA in the first place, so when I got that awful letter that explained to me why ds didn't qualify made me blimen damn angry. So when I wrote the appeal letter I went in with guns a blazing, gathered all the relevant reports from the professionals, and guess what, I got rewarded the highest care component, I agree it is a farce, but you'll get there eventually.

stringbean · 10/12/2005 21:35

Good for you Boozy. I'm told by the professionals that we will be successful eventually, so I'll keep my fingers crossed and prepare for a long wait!

onlyjoking9329 · 10/12/2005 21:43

how long is a piece of tinsle! we had a decision within a week once, but have had to wait up to ten weeks too, i think the only sure thing about the process is that the letter will arrive on a saturday!

BoozyChristmacwoozy · 10/12/2005 21:45

Davros rule has not been proved wrong.......yet

OP posts:
onlyjoking9329 · 10/12/2005 22:43

they often refuse a first application, my twin girls were refused first time, so we asked then to look again, they went on to get top rate.

misdee · 10/12/2005 22:44

peters was refused laods in the eraly stages of his illness. he got it in april 04, and they had a backapyment of 7months.
