SN children

Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

INPP retained reflex/sensory integration, how do you get a non-compliant child to do the exercises?

We are wanting to start some RR/SI for our ds (5.3).
I've read around a lot and I'm convinced he would benefit. However, he is VERY demand avoidant and I wonder if we would actually be able to get him to do the exercises.
It's a massive struggle to get him to get dressed/clean teeth/walk to school/get in the car- everything. So how we would get him to do a series of exercises every day is a real concern. It won't work if he won't do them will it?
Anyone else got any experience of getting a non-compliant child to do this sort of thing?
Also, we think we might go to INPP in Chester. Can anyone tell me about their experience there?

Sorry

INPP takes - on average - 11 months.

Not sure about the other therapies mentioned here....dont think there is any "quick fix" sadly Sad

Have not heard of "fizzy" before, or brushing (not sure ds1 would like that)!

Oh lenin I know how you feel! I was crying to dh about this a few weeks ago!

Me: "I just want to be his mum, not his tutor/OT/therapist/senco"

Sad

Am dreading doing stuff with him over summer, but I have to, we cant afford a tutor and he wouldnt deal well with that anyway.

Dh is trying to do more of the OT stuff as I am finding it difficult with ds2 to deal with too.

No.
Ds1's needs are "not severe enough".
I recognise that may be true, but its exhausting nevertheless and I am - mostly - doing it on my own.
I worry that by flailing around and trying this and that I might be doing the wrong thing. but something is better than nothing, right?

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 12/07/2011 16:50

Who said that his needs weren't severe enough for DLA?

Do you have to do RRT with an NT child of 8 (think that's about right!)

Do you have to do OT with an NT child of 8

Do you have to do extra reading writing tuition with an NT child of 8

etc etc

I got HRC and LRM recently using the Cerebra guide.

Lenin have you heard yet?

I'll be pleased for you then :) Congratulations, you deserved it after your hard work in getting the form done. Are you getting Aiming High yet? We can't get it without a dx of ASD.

Ben10isthespawnofthedevil · 12/07/2011 17:04

It is almost the end of term. Will that be good or bad for you? It is a mixture for us as he won't be so shattered but will have to combine enough activity with enough lounging to stop the behaviours escalating.

I have to say that reading some of your (meaning all of you with more than one child) posts, I can't understand how you do it with more than one child. It is exhausting enough being a one child family.

Sorry Sops, we have hijacked your thread Blush

Oh dear. Would he accept a SN holiday club? Wish I was there to lend a hand - except it is waiting for an op still so wouldn't be a very helpful hand

Hopefully the Aiming High will come through for you and DS1 will relish in the freedom from school and surprise you - fingers crossed for you

It is hard with 2 (or 3 or 4) - I feel constantly torn in two Sad

Nights are also bad here lenin Am considering asking the paed for some sort of meds at the next appt (august)

Dh and I are like ships that pass in the night atm Sad
