Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

Hmmm okay, so ds seems to have a new interest.

He has fallen in love........ With ..... Wait for it......

Binary coding!

< thunks on floor>

starwars conversations were bad enough, but tonight he has been talking to me in binary.
I'm going to cry!

:) just!

I used to talk theatre and art and things , it was nice!

Ahh well, I suppose it's a cheaper obsession to have!

OMG, carrot, how are you going to get through thisGrinGrin

Thecarrotcake · 09/03/2011 21:09

Ineed, I don't know!

Not only is he talking in binary, but he's dyslexic...

I don't know binary, I'm not going to be able to understand one string of on and offs, let alone try and work what he's saying.

I don't know whether to laugh or cry!

That's a good one. He'll be a fantastically well paid programmer one day!

Like my DH (except for the fantastically well paid bit) Smile

HelensMelons · 09/03/2011 21:19

Don't you just love the specialist subjects!

This sounds like one that you need a special book for, how fab so he can write things down.

Thecarrotcake · 09/03/2011 21:25

We are going to have to have a new rule,

When talking to mum you have to use English.

OP posts:
Sputnik · 09/03/2011 21:28

You'll be needing this.

Thecarrotcake · 09/03/2011 21:35

Oh sputnik :)

you have given me the bestest idea ever and it is going to make him so very very happy :) ( I'm going to make him a giant binary canvas painting with a mum message on it!)

it makes it hard because he seems to almost have a 'photographic' memory ( awful working memory though), so he's not learning it as such, he's just seeing it and then knows it.

my husband draws graphs in the air and when his old school friends are over they can see the graph and add to it.

they have spent entire nights debating the invisible lines on this invisible graph that is always in my living room. 8-12 hours

often at these invisible graph parties i'm the one who is invisible.

one day, as a gift to our marriage i will wall paper one full wall with a giant dry erase graph grid.

LoL, dh just said when I read this thread to him, 'well numbers are real too!'

aRGHH! Confused

Triggles · 10/03/2011 09:27

my sympathies, really. I wouldn't know how to deal with binary code-speak either. DS2 is 4yo. I'm hoping we have a ways to go before this hits. He seems to be taking a slight interest in star wars though. sob sob (although to be fair, I LIKE star wars! Grin)

moosemama · 10/03/2011 11:02

I'm lots with anything vaguely number based - you have my sincere sympathies.

I wish ds would take an interest in Star Wars. Its flipping Pokemon in this house. Ds1 is a walking Pokedex. Hmm

His other one is the history of games consoles, what spec they were, when they were released and what games came out when on each console and what the differences were between the same games on different consoles. Aaaaargh! Grin

Luckily his maths teacher has the same obsession, so he can share this particular interest with him on a regular basis. Grin

Thecarrotcake · 10/03/2011 13:04

Gah, well we had the thomas the tank engine phase, winnie the pooh ( although it was mostly everythng to do with Tigger, but would constantly walk about the house hitting his head saying " think, think, think")

we have done world war 2 planes, pokemon, starwars and now we are on binary.

oh and there is the background constant of historical facts, maps and those lines on the weather map to show wind!

Im not sure if he is enjoying his inner geek, or hiding in it by speaking binary. I guess it will come to light.

Thecarrotcake · 10/03/2011 13:06

and to signs DH.... grrr i know numbers are real too, but it's not helpful when your ds answers of he wants a drink or not in a combination of misspelt numbers :o

OP posts:
EllenJane1 · 10/03/2011 13:09

Moosemama, my DS3 has the same obsession. Shall we get them together? (Or perhaps not) Did you know that some console or other was supposed to be 3D and virtual reality, but IT ONLY HAD 2 COLOURS! What were they thinking...?

Thecarrotcake · 10/03/2011 13:11

he he he

you folk who have the console obession going on, it's gonna turn into binary < evil cackle> :o

OP posts:
EllenJane1 · 10/03/2011 13:42

Noooooo!

moosemama · 10/03/2011 14:26

Ah, so we could well have Star Wars to look forward to. Grin

We also had the Thomas the Tank obsession, but that was nt ds2 and he has kindly passed it onto dd who has all of his old trains and books. Hmm She was kind enough to line all the trains up in front of a very worried looking Ed Psych as well - first and last time she's ever done it too - minx!

Ellen - yep, I'm sure I've heard that one somewhere along the line! Am thinking getting them together might not be a good thing, although they could probably talk at each other for hours. Grin

OH NO! Just read the your last post Carrot! Please tell me the binary doesn't lead on from console obsession. Shock

Thecarrotcake · 10/03/2011 16:09

noooooo binary had nothing to do with game consoles, games, programming for games...

< Rolf Harris voice> can you see what it is yet? :o :o
