DS being bullied :(

Have just got back from picking up Connor and the taecher grabbed me as I was leaving. Connor was kicked in the eye by a girl in his class. They have never got on and she is a lot bigger than Connor (Connor's the smallest in the class) and she is a little cow. She was kicking the door when I arrived. The head was talking to her mum when the teacher was talking to me, and I nabbed him as I came out the classroom. He knew what I wanted to talk to him about and I was very cross. I told him that I chose his school because it has a very good SN review and the old SENco was great, but I don't expect to come and find that he has been kicked in the eye. He could have lost his sight and I am not impressed. The mother didn't even say sorry.

mieow hope everything goes well for your ds, if he likes the school why should he change for this nasty, spiteful little girl. She should be the one thrown out.

As for the police issue, my son has been a bully, I have phoned police to get them to come out and give a good talking to him but they said they cant. I dont know why????It may work the other way round.I hope it does.

She sounds like a spoilt little brat and the mother needs her arse kicked into gear.

Just keep pushing for results.

What a sad situation you and your ds find yourselves in. It seems to me as if the system and the school is failing you all. Can the school really not force this mother to face facts and involve an educational psychologist?

If your ds is otherwise happy it sees illogical to have to potentially upset him with a move, but, tbh , particularly given the history, I would be worried about the circumstances in which she was able to wrap a rope around your son's neck and pull that tight without intervention. If the school cannot/will not provide support to protect your son then I fear you do need to look elsewhere. Chances are it would not remove the problem from the school anyway and she will just pick on another child but if they can't see that there is little else you can do.

good luck

oh mieow, your poor dsSad I would take a photo like davros said but I dont know what you do. The school sound like they arent taking it seriously at all.

mieow · 17/11/2003 16:28

Dh has been in again today and the girl in question is slightly deaf and apparently can't understand things said to her... She has been given a 1-2-1 at playtimes (funny how we can't get one for DS when he falls all the time) and we have to see what happens now..... if this is the best they can come up with and it carries on I will be removing DS from their school

Sorry, but that sounds like a pretty poor explanation. Being deaf in itself does not hinder understanding of basic standards of behaviour although she may be frustrated in class. The mother sounds as if she is deluding herself. Maybe she has had her own problems with her daughter which have improved recently but does she know about the latest incident and the distress caused ? I would not personally consider it enough to see how it goes - there should be a time frame for reviewing the situation at least.

All the best to you and your ds

mieow · 17/11/2003 16:59

Ds is getting upset in the morning and not wanting to go to school. I am giving it to the xmas holidays and if things are still bad I will move DS in the new year. BUT if she seriously hurts him again I will simply take him out of school.......... full stop!!!

if she is deaf and can't understand what is being said then alternative methods of communication should be used.

I think maybe you need to have a metting with the head/senco and class teacher and talk about connor and his needs- he needs to not be strangled at school so what are they going to do about it?

codswallop · 17/11/2003 18:45

I am not suprisedthe pOlice wont get involved ) it is up to the school to deal with this.

we have had a skipping rope incident at ours too and it was kept within school - I cant see why schools let infants play woth them.

Have you got a copy of the bullying policy and sn policy? you could always write tot he Governors

lou33 · 17/11/2003 19:13

Since when does hearing problems allow you licence to strangle?

The thing is she isn't being ignored. She has the teachers attention all day. When I pick up DS, she is sitting on the teachers lap, walked about with the teacher. She now has a 1-2-1 at lunch time, before her mother used to come in. She has special classes with the Head/senco twice a week. She has a person with her the whole time, but she manages to bully the other children. The other children are not getting the help they need in class because of this child.

gggggrrrrrrrrrrrr.....no wonder you and your dh are mad!!!! I would be spittingSad

I would change schools mieow, they obviously dont take connor's needs seriously. I know it is drastic but this is serious and they just sound like they cant be botheredSad is there another school close?

mieow · 17/11/2003 20:47

All Connors friends from nursery went to a school next to his old SN/mainstream nursery. I moved to this school because it is nearby and the SENCo that was there (she left last year) was excellent, and the school had a very good Sn review. I will be taking him to the school next to his old nursery (where DD1 now goes in the SN part) if this isn't resolved

OP posts:
fio2 · 17/11/2003 20:50

mieow will your dd1 be going to this school in a years time anyway? if so, it may be easier in the long run maybe?

mieow · 17/11/2003 20:56

I had planned to get her into Connors school and have chosen the schools. I will have to change both of them now
