The usual gripe came up, (nappy provision) and we were told ours is one of the only areas areas in the country which will still be receiving free nappies for the forseeable as a lot of PCT's will be cutting them as 'non essential' we were told to check online, has anybody been affected yet ?? Or is it just a load of whitewash ??

Ouch, that's going to hurt!

OTOH, how much are they going to be willing to spend clearing up all the "accidents" which will now happen on buses, park benches, high streets etc?

Did they suggest where to look online?
Our PCT have just moved to a new contractor so I wonder if they can get out of it easily if this is indeed true?

We have an emergency meeting early in December cos we're bricking it over the spending cuts basically, we get sod all as it is and at the mo we're nagging for one changing station (there aren't ANY) to be installed, which of course brought up the subject of nappies.

We were told this by a lady who works with families of termianlly ill children (basically fighting the NHS and charities for the right services, care packages) I can't remember the organisations name because i'm useless, but it's funded by Duncan Ballentine parently, could ask my friend the name anyways, she said a lot of trusts are stopping ALL non essentials, ie ivf, nappies, decent wheelchairs etc. Surely this won't happen ??

wtf will they cut next, breathing.
if a bloody nappy for and incontinent child/person isn't a bloody essentia l wtf is.
O h I wish someone would wee on the goverment

moondog · 24/11/2010 16:59

I think key word here is 'apparently'.

ApocalypseCheese · 24/11/2010 17:01

But it's NOT a health aid.

Anything unessential to a persons health ie Ivf, decent wheelchairs etc will no longer be funded, I had to leave early to get dcs but can ask around, think she let the cat out of the bag tbh

She knows her stuff moondog , she's worked within the NHS in some way for years. We only get 2.5 a day here as it is. When ds needed them 6yrs ago, the provision was four a day, so their have been cuts

OP posts:

it won't affect us, but it makes me fume as it will affect so many people
this government stinks.

ApocalypseCheese · 24/11/2010 17:06

And the wheelchairs we get as it is are unsupportive and shite, bet shiny Dave never had to push a tank with wobbly handles and a footplate which falls off every 5 minutes

bigcar · 24/11/2010 17:13

my pct are putting huge pressure on parents to toilet train, they of course won't provide pull ups to help as, and I quote, 'they are too expensive'. [sigh]

to be fair though, it was the crap products they gave dd that made me finally bite the bullet and get her dry.

the ones dd had were MASSIVE
and leaked.
I never got the false economy
as good ones that didn't leak.....wouldn't need so many

we get libero nappies which aren't too bad. Dd3 just has no awareness of when she's done a wee or poo, she has no understanding of what going to the toilet means and bog all language, never mind the low muscle tone and everything else. I'm sure we'll get there at some stage, just not now, developmentally she's between 1 1/2 and 2. Maybe I'll just let her wee every where, she won't be bothered Grin

i hope not as this will have a knock on effect for disabled adults

RowanMumsnet · 25/11/2010 13:24

Thanks for the heads-up on this ApocalypseCheese - please let us know if you hear anything else, or if anyone finds that their nappy supplies have indeed been stopped.

"we will all chain ourselves to Downing Street!"

Are the sticky tags really that strong???

TheJollyPirate · 26/11/2010 07:39

Right, I am waiting for a reply from our PCT over the Campaign. I will try and speak to someone today about this. I work in Essex (South) and will check out if this is a possibility here. I so hope not because words fail me if it is.

donkeyderby · 26/11/2010 09:10

This would be a disaster, but I can't believe they would take away free nappies for doubly incontinent children and adults. Surely not.
