i have just seen one of these on ebay and they look great my ds would love one of these.

On ebay they are charging £15.

Is that an ok price to pay or is there somewhere else i can get one of a better quality for cheaper?

Thanks in advance

I usually make my own and then the SALT gives me the symbols for it.

MrsF usually knows the best places to find things like that.

RTKangaMummy · 19/09/2005 13:39

I found it

jenk1 · 19/09/2005 13:43

Saw a laminator in Sainsburys for £20 last week. COme on, you know you want to join the MN Lammy Club

jenk1 · 19/09/2005 20:14

Do you all make your own visual timetables then?

I support a little boy with autism. I would recommend getting a laminator - I think I saw one in Tesco for £12 the other day and the laminating sheets are cheap from Tesco too - about £3. I get Velcro from the local factory fabric shop - use loads of this.

There are lots of symbols online that you can download and I have drawn some of my own (I'm no great artist either) - just "stick people" or whatever.

I think visual timetables are great for children with autism - can help to break any task down into the basic steps as well.

This is the one I use as a childminder who often cares for children with communication difficulties. I have adapted the traditional pecs pictures by printing and laminating copies of clear digital photgraphs of us all engaging in activities here eg snacktime, outside play, a pic of my car, messy play, TV, bubbbles, sand and water, dancing to music, storytime, quiet time etc
It hangs on the wall at a height that the children can reach and they all enjoy the structure of it even the children without special needs. It is very sturdy and made of strong plastic so crawling babies can get stuck in examining the pictures in the finished section too without damaging it or pulling it down.

poofiewuddle...lol great name

PoofieWuddle · 19/09/2005 20:33

That looks good Goosey. The board we use at school goes horizontal left to right.

goosey · 19/09/2005 20:38

I bought mine at the PECS workshop and remember them saying that it is easier for children to follow the logic of up and down to sideways. I don't know what this was based on and it's all down to what the children are already used to I suppose.

jenk1 · 19/09/2005 20:44

Does anyone make them and sell them on here?

I,d rather give a fellow MNetter the business thatn a stranger off ebay

jenk1..
the sellers feedback looked pretty good to me [v.happy customers]and she does appear to tailor make the timetable..have you tried grilling her on what youd get for your money?

mizmiz · 19/09/2005 20:48

Goosey, wish there were more people like you in the world. As a slt, have a hard enough time getting SN teachers to use visual timetables.let alone anyone else.
Do you advertise as achildminder for kids with s/n?
You sound like a real treasure!
Just had a look at that e bay link. Timetables are great. Don't know about eBAy,so is there any way of me finding out more about the seller?
I would recommend however that those of you buying discuss it with your salt before using (assuming you have salts which may not be the case.)
Visual timetables seem very simple but need to be thought out carefully.

NB You've no idea how much threads like this cheer me up. A couple of years ago, thisstuff was all new fangled, and to hear you all chatting so confidently and casually about laminators and so on is fabulous!

coppertop · 19/09/2005 20:51

I just knew that Davros would be along to drum up more business for the Laminator Club.

MrsF is the SN board's resident Blue Peter expert when it comes to ideas about making timetables etc. Actually I'm surprised that she hasn't already sniffed out this thread when it contains so many references to laminators.

goosey · 19/09/2005 20:56

Thanks mizmiz . I do advertise that I care for children with special needs and provide respite care, but really now it's mostly word of mouth from parents and social workers that is getting me my little customers. This is my business website .
