Hello, I realise that this is quite an old thread but if anyone is still out there I am in the Dumfries and Galloway area.

My child has hypermobility syndrome and possibly dyspraxia and I am currently fighting to get help for him.

He is due to start school in August but I have requested a deferred entry as he is simply not capable of it.

How do you get support in Scotland? I am currently in the process of trying to get a CSP for him or at least an assessment for this.

Any help gratefully received!

Hi, Im in Edinburgh, DD will be 3 next month, severe GDD. We have a good SALT, OT and physio. Just starting to try to understand pre-school provision here. Wanted to mark this thread - hi all!

Just realised this is an ancient thread. Cow573 - not sure I kow enough to help. We deal with this through our Ed Psych and VTSS worker (Council) but are just at the start of the process

Hi Cow573 I'm in the same area as you and ds2 has very similar issues to yours. He has hypermobile joints, propreoception, delayed speech and stammer, poor sight, gross motor planning and sequencing delays, very literal thinking and some behaviour issues. I have had and am still having a hard time getting help, ds2 has an IEP and was assesed and approved for classroom support in nursery and then the headteacher (in her 'wisdom') wouldn't let him have it! Apparently, HT has the final say as to who gets support in their school...bonkers!! So, I'm still fighting and trying to make sure he still gets the support he needs. SALT is very patchy, OT (oh what a nightgmare!) is about to discharge him (he's 4.8) even though they said they would test for dyspraxia when he was 5yo. I find it hard and demoralising and I'm sick of it being implied that everything would be fine if I was a better parent.

Many Local Authorities in Scotland are reluctant to draw up CSPs (and the terms for getting one are tightly drawn) but you have a right of appeal to an Independent Tribunal - the first step is to get the LA to admit they will not be drawing up a CSP (they may stall with waffle and vague talk instead). Have you looked at the Enquire website ?

Hi, DS is 6 and we have a CSP for him (signed just before the Christmas break!). We requested it in his 2nd year of nursery (enhancement year), and it was all finally finished in his 2nd term of P1.

Prior to this we had his Child's Plan, and his IEP in place, but we really wanted to tie down our SLT to offer real therapy. Unfortunately, they aren't playing ball even with the CSP in place so I'm now in talks with our 'named person' to get them to do what's required or start the disciplinary action route (I have those papers somewhere!).

If you have questions I'm more than happy to answer whatever I can! :)

I'm in aberdeen!
My 4 year old attends a special needs nursery, he has asd, he gets great support there and has made a lot of progress apart from with speech,he is still virtually non verbal.
He is due to start school in August,he has been placed at a mainstream which has a special needs base.
The school we wanted for him where he would have been in a smaller class he didn't get a place as there were only 10 places.
There doesn't seem to be enough places here at special needs schools for the amount of children who need them.
We are going to visit the school he has been placed at next week but at the moment we have no idea what support he will get there,it is a bit worrying :(
