Touch screen games

DS2 has SLD (being assessed for ASD) and goes to a CDC once a week. They discovered that he interacted well with their touch screen computer (and it really calms him down), so we decided to spend a bit of his DLA on a touch screen monitor for him to have at home.

Anyway, I've been making cause & effect games for him to play (am a web developer /programmer by trade) and have put them on a website so they can be freely enjoyed by all

MNHQ have given me permission to share the link: website here

Hope the games can be of interest / useful to some people here Am always on the lookout for more game ideas too.

Although they're designed for touch screen, they can also be controlled using a regular mouse. And my NT 4.5 year old also enjoys them, so most pre-schoolers probably will! Seemingly, most parents particularly enjoy the Bubbles game ;)

Brilliant. Thanks a lot.

Thank you, dd2 uses touch screen at nursery, we couldn't afford to get it at home so we bought her a Fast track (rollerball) mouse which she has adapted to fast and now uses the pc )loves u tube).

Thanks for the link, i'm sure many will find it usefull.

HairyMaclary · 02/08/2010 10:02

Wow - those are brilliant!

Would you mind if I forwarded the link to my son's physio who runs a weekly multi therapy group for preschoolers? I know they have a couple of computers with touch screens but struggle to get appropriate software for the range of needs of the children who are there. I am happy not to if you would prefer it to be used by parents rather than professionals!

chorltonandthewheelies · 02/08/2010 10:11

Thanks so much for these, my son also has a touch screen computer and he will love these games!

m0nkeynuts · 02/08/2010 10:14

Ooh, thanks for the great responses everyone!!

HairyMaclary - please do pass the link on! The more who can make use, the better

Giving this another little bump, in case anyone missed it first time around and because I've added quite a few new games since the original post Grin

Have you thought about marketing them? I went to a couple of courses with the IT guy - inclusive technology here, he's really approachable and lovely.

(I'm a teacher of SN, mainly PMLD - used to use massive plasma touch screens with the kids, those games would work well. They are much better than my crappy made-in-powerpoint efforts!)

I liked the fact that the "rewards" are good and I love the kaleidoscope one, it's magic. Do you think you could do one similar with more contrast? ie, not white background, for kids with VI?

Sorry if I'm being presumptuous, you did say this was your job. Blush

m0nkeynuts · 21/08/2010 11:15

That's a great idea about higher contrast versions, CrunchyFrog! Exactly the kind of feedback I need really, as I currently only can go by DS's needs and guess the rest!!

I am thinking of eventually marketing versions of the games (though always keeping free versions online) but right now I'm just exploring what's useful/popular/attention-grabbing/etc.

I am a web developer by trade, but only do a small amount of freelance work at the moment, as have mostly been mum/carer (now about to be mum/STUDENT, as I'm going back to college!).

Will have a bash at a higher contrast windmill game and maybe you could tell me what you think? You'd be more than welcome to use it in-class!

Would this be any good, CrunchyFrog?

They are bloody brilliant!!

EXACTLY what I wanted 5 years ago for a child I was working with then. Do you mind if I bookmark your site and recommend it to some parents I know? (Sorry, I feel like I am intruding when I post in this section)

m0nkeynuts · 21/08/2010 13:33

Thank you hocuspontas! Please do bookmark & pass along! Grin

oooo I like the new ones, just spent ages launching the skier! Dd3 loves the high contrast version of windmills (VI among other things) Would be even better if you could get windmills full screen like the kaliedescope one, in this instance size is everything Grin

m0nkeynuts · 23/08/2010 17:08

Just for you, bigcar...

Windmills Full Screen

Windmills Full Screen (high contrast version)

that's absolutely fantastic, thank you so much!

Dd3 loves it, usually the most basic of things is too complicated for her. She can't move the mouse with any purpose but as of today she has understood that clicking has an effect!!!! It's kept her amused for ages, she's just learnt some of her colours over the last couple of months so she's been asking me to change the colours as well Smile
