Touch screen games

DS2 has SLD (being assessed for ASD) and goes to a CDC once a week. They discovered that he interacted well with their touch screen computer (and it really calms him down), so we decided to spend a bit of his DLA on a touch screen monitor for him to have at home.

Anyway, I've been making cause & effect games for him to play (am a web developer /programmer by trade) and have put them on a website so they can be freely enjoyed by all

MNHQ have given me permission to share the link: website here

Hope the games can be of interest / useful to some people here Am always on the lookout for more game ideas too.

Although they're designed for touch screen, they can also be controlled using a regular mouse. And my NT 4.5 year old also enjoys them, so most pre-schoolers probably will! Seemingly, most parents particularly enjoy the Bubbles game ;)

Monkeynuts, hello again, I have signed up for emails and your stuff is brilliant. Grin

Do you think that you/ somneone you know could do some kind of ipod/iphone app that would do schedules? You know with the PECS type symbols? DS1 uses a first/ then and timetable, and I just think it would be good camouflage to have it on the ipod touch or similar. Just a thought Grin.

Hiya! Thank you for your lovely comments!

Funnily enough, I've just started looking into ipod/iphone/smartphone apps Grin

Scheduling app is a great idea. Am new to this kind of thing (in that my shiny new - and very first - smartphone is still doing its initial charge!!) so have a bit of a learning curve ahead of me ... but I'm on it!

Will update you soon! Any thoughts / special requests in the meantime, do let me know!

CrunchyFrog - I have sent you a message about the iphone app idea (hope you don't mind!).

I also wanted to request that anyone else who has an interest / opinion / special request for the app (or a similar app) please either message me or post here Smile

monkeynuts, still loving windmills over here Smile Just trying to get it to work on my phone but can't Sad it works on dd1s phone like a dream but I just get the text and no game (gives me an error message about not being supported), think I must be running an older version of android. Alternatively I could very well just be doing it wrong!

would love an android app for pecs type thing and now/next but not sure if it would come up big enough on the screen to be off use for dd3.

have sent the link for your site into school for dd3s quiet/destress time, hope that's ok Smile

m0nkeynuts · 11/10/2010 19:17

Hiya bigcar!

I'm not sure if Flash was supported on earlier versions of Android unfortunately - sounds like that might be the problem for you!

Am looking at doing versions specifically for android/iphone/etc. ... will let you know when I need a tester Grin

I guess for pecs type thing it would depend on your screen size...
I've got the HTC Wildfire which is plenty big, but I know they're not all the same.

Absolutely fine to pass link on - thanks for doing it! Hope it will be of some use to the school Smile

Just a quickie - for anyone who would be interested in the visual timetable-related mobile app, can you please fill in my one-question survey about which type of mobile you have?

(I have to pay a developer fee to release apps for the different mobile systems, so won't be able to afford to do them all at once - therefore need to know which to concentrate on first!)

Also will eventually be looking for testers on different devices, so can you let me know if you would be interested in that too please!

this looks so clever... wish i was an IT genius- have been pondering how to make the nuffield dyspraxia cards into some kind of touch screen/ iphone app/ powerpoint thing? any chance you want to do that too??? Grin

m0nkeynuts · 12/10/2010 19:38

Hmm ... I wouldn't be able to do anything with the actual Nuffield cards as they'll be protected by copyright, but there may be another way... Grin

What exactly did you have in mind?

negligentmummy · 12/10/2010 19:41

sounds and images that scroll like the photos on the touch screen, and then hopefully some blending of sounds (ambitious in my incompetence I know!). maybe with a recording feature so that small child can hear their attempt!!
no idea how that would work though!!

bigcar · 12/10/2010 19:42

monkeynuts, have left my email but not sure how much use I can be due to dd3s VI!

m0nkeynuts · 12/10/2010 19:51

negligentmummy - that actually sounds reasonably do-able!! I'll sleep on it then maybe message you with some questions/thoughts, if that's ok? The recording part is a brilliant idea (and totally do-able!).

bigcar - thank you! will love to hear your feedback, as the app is going to be pretty customisable so your DD3 may still find it useful. (I'm saying that without knowing all the details of your DD3's VI, nor the size of your mobile screen, but I am ever the optimist! Grin)
