I've posted about my 6yo son before: https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/special_educational_needs/4803439-this-is-breaking-me-6yo-about-to-be-excluded

Since then, his behaviour has improved substantially, but he is still not coping the best. He's been seen by an Ed Psych, and I just got the report this week. He's also been awarded DLA recently.

The school is still messing us about though. They've sent home a letter today inviting my son on the end of year school trip on Monday, but the only way he can go is if I attend with him. I've been given one day's notice to arrange this with work.

They know I work full time. And obviously they've known about this trip for ages, so could have told me. They've told my son he can go (it was an attendance based trip), so what am I supposed to do?

This feels discriminatory, hence my anger. Why didn't they tell me sooner? Why are they doing this? And more to the point, what do I say to the head teacher tomorrow morning?

This is breaking me. 6yo about to be excluded. | Mumsnet

Flowers It's rubbish.

It is rubbish, they should have given more notice.

I’d ask the school what provision they would make for him if you can’t attend on Monday. If it’s imperative that you go with him, surely he would need additional supervision on Monday if he stayed behind?

Does your child want to go on the trip?
How far away is the venue to where you work? Could they ring you if they were having issues and you could get there quickly.
Do you think your son could cope and enjoy it? Or will it be too stressful for him?

They defo should of thought about it sooner .... suppose finally got round to doing a risk assessment.

Is gma a bit bored and can just pop along with him.

So tricky! And upsetting too

I've just realised today is a strike day so I won't be able to speak with the Head anyway. Sigh. They planned it well, didn't they!

Head is likely to be in School, OP, and admin staff won't be in teaching unions - still worth ringing.

I have a child with objectively complex needs, including very challenging behaviour, but it's this sort of shoddy bllcks from public sector orgs that are required by law to eliminate discrimination, promote equality and inclusion, that is the last s*dding straw.

<solidarity fist bump>
