My son has been diagnosed with autism. Don't know what to do or how to do now. EHCP is not done yet. Is private or state school has better SEN support in general?

Thanks

Depends on child and school. I know children who have mooved from schools which are meant to provide more support to schools which don,t because the"normal" school was actually better then the one with the additional support. So in other words it,s not just about whats on paper. My nephew is in mainstream but my sister has had to fight for the right support,. I was in mainstream and got a lot of support.

Well it depends I know epopel who are at the school my friend mooved from and are happy there. Where in the country do you want to be, no point mentioning a school that is not where you want to be. (Did you mention London, as we are not London.). Basically you need to look at the area you want to go to and find out what support the local schools give.

IME, Private schools around here won't accept dc with SEN (I presume you are talking about 'mainstream' private schools and not specialist provision?). I work in the Pre-school sector now and we come across lots of families that are "advised" by the private schools that they will "get better provision" in a state school Sad

How old is your ds ?

I know this is an old post but just want to mirror exactly what you said - we have been living this with the small prep school my son is at. We pay a kings ransom to provide him privately with 1-1 support but we were told exactly the same thing "he might be best suited in the state system" which in his case was total codswallop! It makes me furious that private schools with all the resources they have can push the responsibility out onto an already struggling system. It's appalling.
